Known about Velcom for many years; recommended them to a bunch of people as reasonable service and reasonable charges. Was in the area where there was no Bell line, finally got back to Bell and decided to get Velcom again. Signed up - great. Money came out of the account right away. Sales person took down the wrong contact info. Ok - no problem, let's call back to correct it. Was told to be at my place a week from the signup day, from 9am-6pm for technician to come. Ok, no problem - took a day off work, stayed from 9 to 6 in 4 walls twiddling thumbs, nobody came. Call to cancel next day - the note from Bell technician said "nobody was available". Was asked if I'd like to reschedule. No thanks - I have better ways to spend my days off. No problem - Velcom will refund your fees. A month later, still calling to get my money back. There's a handful of responses that I get: - Dave/Bill/Bob (etc) will be after 4/5/6pm, so call back then. - Somebody will call you back after 4/5/6pm. - The money will be in your account by the end of the day/week.
Velcom - give me back my money!!!
I understand it is a small company and the long wait times on the phone. I'm all for supporting the little guys. I understand that Bell technicians short-change Velcom on the service (maybe there's a reason for that?) But I'm just curious how did they survive all those years with such a poor service, when there are so many piranhas in the tank?
Told my neighbour about the fun I've had. She told me that it's 2012 outside and we have fiber in the building from Storm.ca. Was connected the next day. Next day!!! Fiber!!! I sat down, covered my face with my hands and began to cry.
The bottom line is, this service provider is not for the faint of heart. If you sign up with them, you have to prepare yourself for a battle. I thought I was prepared, but I guess I was wrong.

I got subscribed to Velcom dry loop internet on 28 march 2012. Supposed to
be activated on 3 april 2012 which is never realized. I called and chatted with Velcom tech personnel but they are not helpful at all. Basically they would say according to Bell your order is complete (means installation is done). If you want to investigate you have to make a deposit of 90$ to open a repair ticket. bla bla. If Bell says their line has no problem then it must be the problem on your end. Then you have to pay +90$ for
the checking fees. bla bla. I explained I was using Axxx internet not long ago like 5 days before transferring to Velcom dry loop service works very well. The tech personnel repeated same stuff blabla. NEVER Ever will I do business again with this company. I would suggest my friends not go with them.

 | | Velcom SUCK It been a month already and i'm still waiting for a technician to come and install the internet. Whatever you do don't get Velcome once you call their tech support they cant help you and all they can do is email roger and it takes 24 hours for a reply.
I had call Velcom 3 weeks earlier to book a date for technician. 3 weeks later Velcom had the wrong router information therefore the technician couldn't come and thus 1 week was delayed. the following week i am still waiting and their was another error. Velcom gave the wrong address to Roger and therefore the technician couldn't do anything. Now i am still waiting for Internet.
Whatever you do don't go with VELCOM OR YOU WILL REGRET IT! | |

$35 per month Bell Canada "Great Bang for the Buck" "Tech Support, Anything you want fixed small or big you pay $100 deposit" "Teksavvy is a better option for cable and dsl if u want unlimted and better conenction and service!"

I was with them for 1 year and then the last couple of months they changed everything and their internet started to get slower and they tell you that for them to do anything they will charge you which sucks, alot , i have been with them the last 2 months get 1mb when i ususaly get 5mb and their tech support is probably the worst! Their database of sentences is about 5 and you usually get the people when you call their customer service is about 5 people and i know all their voices lol, they also are very rude when you know what your talking about and they dont know what to do! This is my last month and moving on to teksavvy a nice much better upgrade So if you have a service to give u unlimited for a reasonable price but at the same time be able to resits all the problems you will face, i face about 13 random disconnects and etc from them a month and sometimes a week if its an off week! And their hours are very disappointing since most problems faced might happen on weekends and they decided to make u think they are working when you call but once you reach the main line you always get discounnected! When i told them i was leaving its like they didnt care at all, not even a thank you for choosing velcom for a year or etc just a very angry there its done bye. -__- I just need to wait this month out and then im free

I used their service for more than a year. It wasn't bad at first. Then the reliability issues appeared, throttling was added (admittedly, not their fault), and the customer service became a joke.
When my speed dropped from 5 Mbps to 3 Mbps for no reason, I brought that to their attention. However, In order for them to ask Bell to take a look at it they wanted a $100 deposit. Refused. Cancelled my account the next month. New charge was added to my account WEEKS after I left them (!) One year later - a call from a collection agency in regards with $100-odd dollars to cover a dispatch from Bell.
The bills are available only in their system and cannot be accessed by former customers. When asked, unwilling to discuss anything. Billing department unavailable from 11:00 to 15:45 in the middle of the week.
Reported them to CCTS. If alternatives to Bell-Rogers exist, Velcom is definitely not one of them! Avoid Velcom like the plague: it has no place in the Canadian telecom business.

I have in the past used both Rogers and Bell. Both had stable and fast connections. When I moved into my new house a year ago I thought I would give my business to a small company in the interests of promoting competition and also because Velcom did not have such low bandwisth caps as the big two providers.
There was no contract with Velcom but the set up fees for dsl made the cost of canceling after one month prohibitive, so I stuck it out for almost one year.
Ive gone thru two modems they sent, both failed, as well as two other modems that no longer work. I dont know why their service kills modems
But Ive had enough with them. I continuously have had connection problems and I never know whether Ill have internet one hour to the next.
I have to say though, Id be better off manning thier tech help lines that any of the gals Ive tried to get help from. Im sure they dint know a darned thing about computers and are just reading through some generic checklist on their desks. Their tech assistance is a waste of a call and your airtime.
All tech assistance people that I have spoken to also have heavy Slavic accents and sometimes communicating can be very difficult.
When I decided enough is enough earlir this month, I called them and advised that I would like to cancel. That was an easy enough process and I was told that my service would be cancelled at the end of this month, so end of April,2011. I found it annoying that they went and turned off my internet in the evening of the 29th and not some time late on the 30th. Yes I called and confirmed this but theres nothing they can do about apparently until Monday the 2nd of May.
Thanks Velcom and a fond farewell

I paid extra for a static IP, obvious reasons to the ISP. However that IP was blacklisted because of the amount of spam out their network. I complained many times without ever hearing anything about it. I switched ISPs after a year. Other then that I had no other complaints, they offered me a 5mb connection and its what I got, no issues only went down once in the entire year.

$59 per month about 1 days Bell Canada "none" "Has bee blacklist by Spamhaus so often they will not delist." "Not ver good"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money:

I switched to Velcom in early April 2007. My previous ISP could/would not provide fixed ips or allow servers. Velcom allows servers and supplied a block of 8 ips at a reasonable price, without hassle.
Technically they deliver what they advertise, speed is good with very little variance. Up time is good, any planned outages are well advertised and take place as stated. There have been a couple of occasions when things took longer than expected, but these are the exception not the rule.
2010-07 -Since my initail review things have changed for the worse. One of the main reasons for my switching ISPs was the need to run servers. This worked well at first. However, Velcom has been blacklisted by Spamhaus (SBL) several times. This has happened so often that Spamhaus now refuse delist them. This makes their useless to me as an ISP. They have allowed me to use their smarthost, but as it has several restriction that impact my use their solution is no much use, as I cannot send large emails or emails with large attachments.
Tech support does not seem to be as good as it used to be. Sales queries have gone unanswered.
Was a good ISP, but no more. Would not recommend.

Contract price not specified. "Cheaper than other major companies" "Worst service I have ever encountered in terms of internet service"
| Pre Sales information: Connection reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money:

The first year I had velcom, it was ok. Disconnects here and there but it gets resolved. But then after about a year Major slow speeds started happening. They blamed the insired wiring in my apartment which is not the case. I basically waited things out to be resolved. It was finally resolved when tekksavvy (another isp company actually looked into it as per the dsl forums, and found that it was on bell site). My main issue was that I ordered the 5mbps but I have been getting only 1mbps. This went on for days.
The turning point of why i cancelled their service is this past week. My internet has been down for almost 5 days now. Since day 1 of my problem, I have opened a ticket support online, called technical supports, sales, billing, you name it. NOBODY was picking up the phones. I have tried calling at different times of the day. My calls get REJECTED!! Sometimes it will automatically put me on hold for hours (I put my phone on speakers) and it will suddenly just end. I really wanted to cancel their service, but I cant even do that since they will not pick up my phone calls. So I really dont know what to do but dispute any charges they will do to my creditcard!!
The first year I have their service has been ok, at least they pick up the phone when I call them.

$35 per month- (month by month)
about 5 days "uncapped downloads, compatible with mlppp" "Service never worked properly. Poor support. Poor customer Service." "Would NOT recommend to anyone."
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money:
|
I tried their service as I was woo'ed by the thought of unlimited downloading. Line never worked properly, they could not resolve the issue even though many chances were given. Line cancelled and no refund offered on faulty services, and no resolution possible through CC as it's a "quality of service issue".
I wouldn't recommend anyone risk it. I'm going to Teksavvy or back to Bell. The additional costs seem worth it for a connection that actually works!
Basic Timeline: 3/13/09 - I switched my dsl connection from Bell whom I had been using for 2 months flawlessly (line set up with new home) at a steady 7mb down/800k up. Since I don't have cable I wanted more bandwidth for downloading so I swapped over with promises of unlimited data caps. I got a dry loop dsl connection from Velcom.ca.
This is the day all my problems started. Immediately after getting the email notice on my blackberry that my new line was set-up, my speedtests showed I was now only getting 2mb down/200k up.
I called in immeidately to have the speeds checked. They assured me this would improve in 2-3 days and to be patient.
3/16/09 - Speeds improved to 5mb/200k. Uploads still sucky but downloading was okay. Unfortunately once it hit 2am my internet connection died.
3/17/09 - I called in about the internet connection problem. They checked my line and said it was fine. I was asked to monitor the line and check if I had anymore problems.
Later that day I had problems and called in. Technician said there were issues on line and the would open service ticket with Bell.
3/18/09 - Internet was working again but my speeds dropped down to 2mb/200k AGIAN. I called in to have it upped again.
Problems struck again on the line.
3/19/09 - Line speed was up to 5mb/200k up. From hereon in each day I had intermittent line problems ranging from 30mins-2hours. I called in when I had problems... they said they see problem on the line and will contact bell.
3/20/09 - 3/24/09 They say line is fixed and to monitor it... etc... we go round and round every day.
I finally called to cancel service on 3/24/09. They told me they could cancel, but for a refund I would need to speak to supervisor Adnan who wasn't in, and also they would send a technician to my house to check the line.
3/26/09 Bell techinician just finished testing the line. Perfect line which can handle much higher profiles. No glitches what so ever. He tests into the house all the way to my modem. Everything is working great. As we are signing the work order, connection dies. He retests and line is perfect.
So in the end, it's not a line problem. During this time I've been through 4 modems, all of which experience the same problem. One of the modems is the Bell provided modem which worked flawlessly for 2 months up until the day I switched.
I spoke with the supervisor Adnan, and he said he could cancel the line but they could provide no refund. He said he was the final word and no one else in the company could help me anymore than him. He said they showed I was connected and everything was working, but I had no internet connection. He blamed it on my computer.
Line was cancelled immediately, and 5 minutes later I'm currently surfing fine on my neighbour's line with the exact same computer they claim is causing the problems.
I called my CC company but they said they cannot help since this is a service quality issue.
So in the end I'm stuck paying for a month of service which has been flaky as heck, never got proper upload speeds on, and was cancelled well before the 1 month I was charged for!
Althought it's not a huge amount of money, I'm now without a proper connection and I've paid for a crappy service which cost me hours of time calling and complaining about. It's really the principle of it more than anything now as I don't think as consumers we should be treated this way.
