Ireland
$26 per month- (month by month)
about 7 days "Unlimited download 12am to 8am. One month contract on this option. Free modem if staying for more than one year." "None at all." "I get a fairly steady 4 - 5 Meg download speed. Only reason I ever think of leaving would be for more speed."

I'm sorry but I can't think of any bad points with Plus.net. If ever there is a drop in speed a quick phone-call has me back up to normal. Going on my experiance over the past eleven months I could safely recommend Plus.net.
Now that I've had some time to think, I think Plusnet are the best for the money. The service is reliable, support is as it should be with knowledgeable staff. Speed is 9 Meg down and 1 Meg up.No download limits.

United Kingd
Contract price not specified. about 3 days "Reliable connection, never drops out" "Speed sometimes slows right down" "A good broadband supplier for casual internet browsers, but not suitable for downloading large files or playing games online."

PlusNet are a local company to me, so I would expect them to be fast for my connection, but not so. The connection sometimes slows right down, slower than dial-up sometimes for a few days. This connection is not suitable for online gaming or large file downloads and I would NOT recommend this provider.

UK
$81 per month- (12 month contract)
about 10 days "Customer Controls of DNS MX Connection Settings Email and Webspace" "Increasing Wait times to talk to script kiddies about appaling BT lines and service" "Bought out by British Telecom (BT) who seem to be running them in to the ground (BT like being a monopoly)"

PlusNet
www.plus.net
Used to be Force 9
Bought out recently by British Telecom because they did not like the competition or the fact that PlusNet were telling it like it is, i.e. here in the UK broadband is a myth because BT will not spend any money on new cable infrastructure or better exchanges despite earning a million pounds and hour at one point. (This is not an exaggeration).
PlusNet used to be one of the better ISP's with qualified technical staff you could speak to, a good service and a no nonsense approach to reporting and dealing with faults. They put their hands up and said, yep it was us and we are sorry when it was their fault too.
They have a user portal that gives the customer full control over everything including DNS and MX records and other useful features of domain and mail hosting. All in all they were the preferred Techies ISP. When traffic shaping came in they were one of the first to have a published fair usage policy with detailed time and gigabyte download limits.
All in all, good stuff.. but...
Then they got too big, too quick, started buying up other smaller ISP's and took a poisoned apple called METRO whose rubbish setup killed their previously robust network on merger.
And then the call centre went offline with the complaint level.
And then BT bought them out.
Me, I am still with them but not sure for how long. BT killed my line with a rubbish product called ADSL MAX and since then I am often better off with a pair of ISDN lines than I am with ADSL.
As usual BT admits nothing and actually has a contract that says if it goes at 56k i.e. modem speeds then that is acceptable broadband speed and they are providing the service. Thats what you get when you have a Government sponsored monopoly. So now they own PlusNet too and Customer Support is backing them up.
But today I got the best one of all ------------------------ From Customer Support
The results of our tests show no fault with your broadband connection. Completed speed tests show that your connection speed is: none found
According to BT, this speed is within the limits of acceptable performance for broadband service.
Kind Regards,
Customer Support ----------------------------
So you tell me what they are smoking because I think it is way to strong!
My last speed test a few minutes ago was 230kbits or a download of 30k bytes per second.
Then there is their ignorant and totally perverse demand that in order to test your line you have to fire up your equipment and drop ALL your firewalls both hard and soft and leave your PC connected for up to 48 hours.
The even expect this of CORPORATE connections with an entire server and network setup behind it and state in their automated fault checker (written by a moron) that they will not progress your fault report any further if you do not do this.
And whilst the hackers play with your network, server and data they may just get round to checking your line, so leave the front door open, put the keys in the safe and go home and... These guys play tag on the freeway too? I don't and have told them so.
They even threaten you with the following: if BT come out, make a check, and say its your equipment they will give you a bill for more than $100. The worst thing is that it is true. Having spoken to a BT engineer with responsibility for Broadband I can confirm it is BT internal policy and a direct instruction to the engineer to perform the most basic line check and if they get a signal and connection regardless of quality to immediately blame the ISP and issue a bill to the customer. Do not waste our money on any further tests is the bottom line and the hidden agenda is of course do not admit liability or the state of our network and connections as playing any part in the failure.
All in all the answer is used to be good, probably still are but are now controlled by the BT thought police.
Look into my eyes...
You must not question your BT line quality
repeat after me
you must not question your BT line...
