Directv is a good choice imo. Ive had it for about 6 months and I like it so far. Install was fouled up some. Took about 3 weeks to finally get installer to show after calling in after our appt window has passed. We were told he was behind and may or may not show today. Got a tech to show on the 3rd try. Other than installation, its been good

I have the full channel line up but not as a HD service. I have had DTV for 6 years and have been very happy with it. Longest time without a signal was 15minutes due to heavy thunderstorms that happen rarely here in DC. Have 2 Directivo units and 2 normal boxes. Works great. I also have Hughesnet, as said in the forums its a low usuage connection depending on the plan but works great for email, youtube, and various sites plus the occasional legal torrent download(movie trailers for me mainly).

I have had Direct TV for about 3 months now. I have no complaints at all. I had Dish Network and was not very happy with them. I had Cox for TV services and they nickel and dime you for everything. Don't get me wrong I still have Cox for my internet. Thats it INTERNET ONLY. I have tried out the VOD and love it. You could also stream music view pictures on your TV from your PC. With Over 85 HD channels you can't go wrong!

HAd directv for over 5 years. Had dish before, Dish absolutely sucked. Everytime the sky was cloudy, i would lose signal with them. Connection is rock solid with directv, however sometimes the DVR skips, and the picture blacks out and then comes back. Had DVR replaced and it still does it, im sure this issue will be fixed soon with upgrades, etc.
Overall, if you want a wide variety of HD channels, with picture quality thats down right amazing, go directv.

Had now for over 12 years and have never had a problem. Recently upgraded from Charter HD to DirecTV HD and have never made a better decision. Picture quality is excellent and customer service has been very helpful.

I have been with DTV since 1997 and been relativly happy until the last year or two. DTV charges for EVERY little thing and im tired of paying for the features I should get with my package. Example: I pay a hundred and some for the MLB extra innings package to watch unlimited baseball. I also pay 10/mo for the HD service. But to get the baseball games in HD, oh thats another 99.00 package. Same thing for the Football package. I now have to pay for local HD channels, because you cannot integrate the OTA HD antenna into the receivers with the new HD channels. Their equipment is good, but you have to pay 399.00 to lease a HDDVR that I have to return when im done. That just seems odd to me!! All and all I suppose I would recommend DTV, but I am anxious for ATT Uvearse to arrive and see what that is all about!!

The installers that I have dealt with are more concerned with speed of the install rather than doing a quality job. They sent contractors to do my job rather than DirecTV employees. I had to stay on top of them to ensure the coax was run the way I wanted it to be. The equipment was very easy to operate. I have 1 HD receiver and 2 standard receivers. I have all the channels and HD programming and the 3 receivers for $120 a month. I love the wide selection of programming. I am waiting for the switch over to MPEG 4 compression and all of the new HD channels to follow. The only downside is rain fade in severe storms. My satisfaction with satellite is far greater than that of cable TV. The only thing that would make me switch would be if Verizon installed FIOS in my neighborhood. Overall I would definitely recommend the service to others.

Good reception, they have a few more satellites than dishnetwork or others, I usually don't have a problem. Remote/channel menus are a little cumbersome sometimes. NO need for a phone line connection UNLESS you want CID onscreen, and want to use phone for order PPV. Happy customer almost a year now.

I have SD only with a DirecTivo. The DirecTivo works pretty well and it records the MPEG transport stream directly from DirecTV rather than converting back to analog as you would have to with a regular Tivo.
My problems with DirecTV:
Picture quality is worse than any other digital service that I've seen.
Atlanta local channels have terrible ghosting in them, worse than rabbit ears! I cannot gett DirecTV to fix this.
DirecTV have taken away channels that I watch and replaced them with shopping or religious channels - or moved them up to the next tier.
We only watch about 15 channels, but we get the baggage (and bill) for hundreds of other channels. Of course, this is a problem with the whole cable industry.
Customer support is terrible, they don't understand their product much of the time.
I have viewed Dish and DirecTV side by side with identical HD monitors, the HD service on Dish is much better.
Bottom line is that I'd switch to Dish HD if they had decent software in their DVRs. Nothing I've seen is as good as Tivo.
Another problem with Dish is that they require you to have your receiver connected to a phone line or they will charge you an extra $5.00/month.

1 edit | DirecTV consumer relations is a nightmare-Please Read
After having a terrible time tying to solve a very simple billing problem with DirecTV's customer relations, after an hour of being switched to probably 15 extensions, hung up on twice and lied to numerous times-I decided to pass my concerns on to their Senior Management. I managed to locate the Email for their new Customer Relations Senior VP-Ellen Filipiak. She was kind enough to Email me back telling me that DirecTV's Business Operation Analyst, a woman by the name of Heywot Bitew, would "resolve" the problems that I had and was apologetic for her staff's actions. If you have the opportunity, I encourage you to read the actual Emails at »oregonsand.blogspot.com/ as it really sheds a light into the attitude and poor customer relations policies of DirecTV. Long story short-Ms Bitew did anything BUT resolve the issue. Seems Ms. Bitew is under the impression that the treatment I received is "not the norm" for her customer relations. From what I can see from boggs on the internet-I beg to differ. Right or wrong-I encourage you to share your experiences by phoning Ms. Bitew or Emailing either Ms. Bitew or Ellen Filipiak with your concerns. I am concerned that perhaps Ms. Bitew and Ms. Filipiak may not be getting accurate information as to just how bad their customer service is-so I encourage anyone that has had, or is currently experiencing problems, with DirecTV's customer service to give these two executives a clearer picture of just what is happening in this department.
To reach Heywot Bitew: Email:HZBitew@directv.com
To reach Ellen Filipiak, Sr VP of Customer Relations: Email her at: eafilipiak@directv.com And you may want to send a copy of your EMails to DirecTV's investor relations. Their Email is investorrelations@directv.com

| cannot get ppv133-199 on Sunday
I called 1-800 to find out why all my PPV channels said "regular schedule" but no programing. Leslie, a supervisor, explained that due to football programing I could only get PPV by computer or telephone, not with my remote. Are people who don't watch football second rate customers? I have that feeling. I hope that all of your second rate customers flood you with emails or switch over to dishtv. Unhappy in Florida.
