My Other Reviews

·HughesNet
I've had Dish Network for many, many years now. Not entirely because I want it, but I live in a rural area and the choices were limited back in the early 90's.

Everyone with Dish knows that rain will often pool in the dish antenna and scatter the signal to the feed horn, stopping the usable signal. As far as TV service goes with Dish, it is adequate. It is expensive and it is loaded with a huge number of worthless channels; Paid Ad channels, hundreds of music channels, too many sports PPV channels, and so forth.

The Dish ISP is extremely expensive for the amount of data you are granted per pay period (one month). Normally I run out of data within the first 10 days of the 30 day period. When that happens, Dish throttles the connection down to a barely usable bandwidth.

I have DishNet.
It is very slow.
It is very expensive.
It is very limited. I have their largest plan. 15Gbs anytime and 15GBs at 2AM to 8AM AFTER I USE THE ANYTIME ALLOWANCE!

So I really only have 15GBs. I NEVER get to use the other 15GBs, (no Rollover)
And if you want they will sell you 1GB for $10.

But I am going to be happy again. I am DUMPING DishNet and going to a very fast
Verizon 4G LTE network and I get 30GBs a month for the same price if Dishnet.

I have downgraded to the Smart Pack. One would be wise to avoid the Smart Pack like the plague. Most of the channels are sports, shopping, and atrocious religious channels. Of course, we are only paying about $30 per month for it, but IPTV services beat it soundly. I would gladly spring for $62 per month for Directvs Entertainment package or $52 per month for Suddenlinks expanded basic service.

With the abysmal channel selection, I am thinking very seriously about axing Dish Network.

I don't really see the problem.

Don't Dish and DirecTV have most of the same channels? If you don't like the shopping channels you don't have to watch them. I tried Dish once and it was fine except for the high price to renew. I like the Schedule better on DirecTV though because it shows all the local channels for 2 cities so I can set it up to show both Phoenix and Tucson stations.

No, Directv's "Entertainment" package has 5 channels that I want that Americas Top 120 doesn't have.

DISHONEST DISH!!!!!! SHAMEFUL BUSINESS PRACTICES!!!!! High costs, average to poor customer service and so-so products--we are all used to that. But I REALLY hate being lied to. I contacted Dish in June 2015 to end contract after only 1 year due to increase in price and dissatisfaction with internet services. Dish representative offered a package that would reduce my remaining contract to 6 months, which would mean my contract would END completely in DECEMBER 2015, at a reduced cost per month in order to offset the high cost of cancelling services early. Seemed too good to be true, so I called Dish back twice more within the following month to verify the new plan, both times I was told this was accurate. In November I called to make final December payment and arrange to have equipment picked up and AMAZINGLY!!!! no one knew what I was talking about!!!! Supervisor unkindly told me get over it, pay the entire balance of contract and move on. Complete lie in June I guess. I wish I had paid the money in June and been finished at that time. The amount would have been the same and I would not be so angry at being lied to. Such a deceitful and dishonest company!!!!!!! I will never do business with them again under any circumstances.

No lies

What you ran into was a very rude employee who needs a new job elsewhere. When a customer quits a two year contract early s/he owes the balance of the contract - which is normally due and owing - on the date the contract is cancelled. The exact terms are explained in the ETF (Early Termination Fee). Since you didn't take the buy out that offered a lower cost for six months, when you disconnected the ETF kicked in then.

DiSH employee didn't lie to you, he just did not explain the ETF or why you are asked to pay the rest of the contract out at that time. Most companies that offer cellular and satellite devices do the same thing. Most are not generous, most don't offer clients a different package with a reduced rate and time. If your FICO credit score is important do pay DiSH now to preserve your good credit rating.

Re: No lies

From what I read of this they did take the 6 month buy off offer last June which would have made Dec, 6 months. And then found as they checked monthly that what was not the case. Bait and Switch is very common with DISH.

Re: No lies

I wasn't there, and I never had that problem with DiSH. But I never took a short contract either. If they did not get a new contract or a confirmation letter stating the terms of a 6 month lease, they probably did not get a six months offer.

WORD OF THE WISE…DON’T EVER USE DISH SERVICES!!!

WORD OF THE WISE…DON’T EVER USE DISH SERVICES!!! This is possibly the WORST customer service I have EVER experienced!! I chose to shop out different cable providers after my Comcast bill had proven to be too high. After talking to a Dish representative for over an hour and a half and expressing my concerns (my husband’s job potentially relocating us to the city, breaking contract, etc.) it sounded like Dish was the right move. WRONG!! I have only had this cable provider for UNDER a month and found out we’d be moving our family from Michigan to Boston. Yes, of course they can move your cable services for you to Boston… but not when you are living in a building that DOES NOT allow a DISH satellite. I called DISH to express my concerns. I spoke to Alex first who really couldn’t help me, since this issue was beyond his scope.

Next, I was transferred to Frank. Frank was an “account specialist.” He went on to tell me that regardless if the building doesn’t allow DISH and these are extenuating circumstances he could not help me and that I’d be charged a $460.00 cancellation fee. I was misled by the initial sales guy who sold me DISH services, I had expressed my concerns, but not once did he mention a HUGE cancellation fee!! All he wanted was the sale! Frank continued to tell me there was nothing he could do… isn’t he an account specialist?! He then went on to belittle me, acting as if I didn’t know what a “contract” was. Yes, I understand a contract…. And in this case, it’s very similar to a lease. If you sign a 12mo. Lease and break it midway through, you forfeit your security deposit or one month’s rent… not normally the entirety of the balance of the lease. I went on to ask for someone above Frank, who may be able to help me. Transferred to a supervisor, CJ.

I talk to CJ, express the same thing I had told both Alex and Frank, for him to tell me, “I’m sorry, you’re in a contract and the cancellation fee is $460. There is nothing I can do.” How is it that there is nobody who can do anything in this entire company?? I feel as if I were tricked into this contract and that the initial sales guy never properly enlightened me on what would happen if I were to move to a place that did not allow a DISH satellite (or any satellite for that fact.) The worst part about this is.... I did ask in the event if we had to move, what would happen!

DISH TV will lose more than $460 out of this issue…. Not only will I NEVER use DISH TV again… but, I will never recommend it to anyone!!! This was some of the worst customer service, with not even a tad of empathy or support from the DISH TV representatives/staff. If you think you’re saving yourself money by switching to DISH… do yourself a favor and don’t switch! Awful, Awful. Oh, and did I mention… On Super Bowl Sunday when I had 60 people at our house for a party, one of our boxes was failing to work and not getting a signal?! Talk about an inconvenience!!

No DISH for me then

That is terribly greedy on their part. The reason I came to this site was to investigate alternatives, including satellite.

I just scratched DISH off my short list!

That's too bad you are having issues. I was curious why your new place wouldn't allow dish. In ohio at least landlords have to allow dish and direct tv to be used and the landlord can't restrict it.

Dish Network

I have been with Dish Network for years and just recently fell behind 1 month. They want to cut me off and I asked for a 7 day grace period which they denied. They obviously care more for money than they do servicing their customers. Although I will be without service for a few days I will change to another company. Mr. Charlie Ergen, the C.E.O of Dish needs to look into why people are dropping Dish. This is one of the reasons. Good bye Dish!

I signed up for the most expensive and fastest internet package (15 gigs anytime/15 gigs off-peak for a total of 30 gigs) Dish/Hughes offers. It costs $89.99 a month with modem rental. Found that between the hours (approximately 7am to midnight) my bandwidth was 100 kilobits to 700 kilobits per second or 1% to 7% advertised speed. Called and complained 3 different times. A tech was sent out each time. The first tech fiddled with dish. Didn't help. Second tech replaced outside line. Didn't help. The third and final time they sent out a field manager who stood in my living room and said, and I quote, "Dish over-advertises their internet service and Dish internet may not be for us. Dish, actually, Hughesnet routes all of their internet signals through a single satellite and throttles." I called AGAIN to complain and was told that the bandwidth speed was UP TO 10 Mbps. I asked if that claim was a bit disingenuous and they didn't have much to say to that.

Dish Network Customer Service

They just won't get it I don't want their DAM service...and they call. I made one mistake on asking about their pricing...and they call. I had three family members killed in a car accident and told them to leave me alone...I did not want to be bothered by them especially at this time and they keep calling. I ask for a supervisor he assures me my number has been removed and they call and they call and they call....on and on and on.
I would not have this service if they gave it to me free for life! Today I advised them that I am going to the FCC...I have collected my cell phone log for the last THREE months, highlighted their calls, when I asked the supervisor to remove me and today's call. I advised the gentleman who answered that if they call me just one more time I am turning them into the FCC and I will. I have blocked their numbers and still they call advising them I was turning them in...GOD give me a rest...I will make sure that everyone I talk to knows how much this company sucks.....and I will post it on my face book to share with 1600 other folks as well as my professional network...I will tell them my story.... to BE WARE of DISH!! My tech told me they sucked...their reviews says they suck...so I wanted no part of them....now they are cramming it down my throat!

Price started at 39.99 for the silver 200/HD w/3 movie chls. & Cinamax for .01 a month for a year. After a year and a half my cost is now 54.99. I have the VIP222 duel tuner that really doesn't do anything special like VOD or record. Every so often the EPG will slow to a crawl, as in I push the guide button and it takes about 5 seconds for the guide to come up on the screen. I have to reboot the STB to get it to respond quickly.

The HD quality looks very nice, and I get HD Theater on channel 5710. It lists as "Test" Not sure if I'm getting this one for free, but it's a good channel.

I've had Dish Network 15 years or so. They've been pretty reliable for that time. I upgraded about 2 years ago and the install wasn't pleasant. They dish tech (contractor) they sent to set everything up showed up with his kids. They played on my trampoline, drank my sodas, and then had to come into the house because it started raining. Nice huh! The tech tried every short cut in the book, but I wouldn't allow them. First he stated all wiring had to be on outside of house. Not. I went into crawlspace and pulled the wire through for him. Next, he forgot to crimp one of the connections. I noticed this days later when it went out and I inspected the ends. There was more to his install but I won't bore you anymore. The pre sales info lacked info. They offered to buy back a receiver I had and give me a new one with an 18 month contract. I took it only to find out they didn't give me anything. They leased me a receiver for $6 a month. I've been paying it ever since.

The signal doesn't go out often. Only really bad storms. I'm satisfied with the packages and prices. I wish the add-ons were easier to figure out. DVR, Receiver fees are things that confuse me on the website. Maybe it's just me.

Updated 04/15/2011

After 15+ years of service, I have decided to cancel. The price increase was a factor but mostly I am still mad at the way they played switch-a-roo when I signed up for a DVR two years ago. When you mislead your customers, eventually it will cost the company.

I will say that signal was usually good. Programming was lacking and I got tired of watching reruns. Not dishes fault on that one. Price increases became a problem for me. I am now going to try going with just my antenna for the summer. So we'll see how that goes. I need to get out more anyway.
