Been customer for years now. Original install done late so I didn't see the bad cable layout out back, Had an upgrade done 9 months ago to HD and got the good DVR which is almost flawless. 5 days ago got a srv call because dish was loose and I'm not going up there , they came and tightened w/ no charge since I have no contract I guess. Really happy thus far. Keeping my eye on UVerse cause of the internet speeds and was told it is slick. Does it work well w/ PS3 over the line anyone?

Considering the Uverse packages now from 11/12-26 they are giving rebates and some $ off for 6 months. Wife wants 3 extra sets up stairs. I have fought off putting tv in kid's room & bedroom for 16 years, and i am losing that fight for christmas.
That said, there is other reasons, dish has been going out and in for two weeks now. The picture is excellent when on and the dvr is rocking, but I need to have multiple tv w/ a buried cable. Got cable internet, Lingo VOIP, and dish set up, and has worked for years. Total Bill is 157 (tx incld). Looks like 162 w/out tax for the upgrade to uverse, 202 after 6 months.
Why pay more? movies, faster internet, extra connects w/out an extra dvr. deciding today on this, and i'll get back on the whole install/deinstall hassles or heaven.

I have had DISH for 2+ years and have been extremely happy since dumping Comcast's TV and internet service. I pay 60.00/month for a dual tuner DVR(625) and the top 250 package.
04-03-09 Dropped my service down to the Bronze + and knocked 10.00/month off my monthly bill.
05-15-2009 Suspended my service for the next few months as money is tight but I plan on reactivating after August.
10-19-09 Finally canceled my service. I couldn't afford to throw away money for shows that i can watch online or d/l from torrent sites. Great while I had it but not a wise fiscal option at this time.

Great service, the only downfall is the local channels are easily lost due to weak signal strength, but otherwise the service is wonderful. I would highly recommend dish network.
Followup comments: tvtek Premium join:2004-03-07 Concord, CA | Weak signal If the dish is even just slightly out of alignment, your local channels will suffer. I would have them come out and re-align the dish. The signals on the transponders should be at 70% or better. -- Alumni "Mental State" | |

Great company. Never had a problem with service, Receive great picture. Moved from NY to GA, While living in a temporary location, I called Dish and told them that I would not have access to put up Dish, they kept my account "Live". When I finally got the house built, I called Dish and they started me where I left off. Installed new Dish free of charge.
Never had a problem with Customer service. Very knowledgable, short wait times (If you listen and do not call during heavy peak times).
Equiptment is worry-free.

UPDATE Sept 19, 2009: The service is still fine. One thing that is annoying though is the fact I have to keep the receiver plugged into a phone line. I recently discovered the DVR receiver was causing problems with our phone line and the DSL so I had to disconnect it, so my bill goes up a little bit and I get a nag notice every week to plug it into a phone line. I need to get one of those newer receiver which have the ability to "phone home" via the Internet.
==========================
So far we've had DISH Network for around 6-7 years now since Adelphia messed up a while ago, making us leave. We have one of their higher packages (can't recall off hand what it is) that includes a lot of sports channels, good selection of Cartoon channels for the family and of course the news channels. Not to mention Boomerang which is where a lot of my favorite cartoons are still showed.
Installation went without a problem. When the DISH network truck arrived, they took a quick examination at the house layout and the cable system. Once they found out what would be the best way to install the service, one of the installers worked on mounting and pointing the two satellite dishes, one's a DISH 500 dish on the side of our house attached to the siding that points at 110 and 119 West, and another satellite dish on our roof that points to 61.5 West. While mounting the satellites and rotating them, the installer taking care of that job also had some sort of device that measured the signal coming in and fine tuned it. The coax wires from the satellite dishes were neatly hidden from sight, and were secured in place to make sure the wind didn't bump the cables out, and then the cables were ran into the basement. Down in the basement, another installer was installing a satellite switch, that allowed us to use 3 satellites at once and allows us to split the signals into 4 different receivers. Afterwards, the same installer located our telephone wiring in the basement, and ran a new cable to our receiver's location to hook up the receiver to phone home. After the basic equipment was done and we had gotten the house's cable system rewired, the installers pulled our Adelphia line for us and got to work activating our receivers for the first time. Two of the receivers were DP311s, and one of them was a DISH Pro Plus PVR unit with a 60 hour recording space.
Once they left, the service was all set and done. The picture quality was certainly a lot better than the cable was, even when we had digital cable. A few months pass and we've already filled our DVR, and I've taken the time to wire up the TVs to Composite video and S-Video for higher quality. Later on when DISH came out with their dual TV DVR units, we ordered one of those and we still have it. Another installer arrived with the DVR unit. They took the old PVR unit we had and installed our DVR for us, running some new Coax for it as well from the satellite switch and to the location of the TV we wanted to hook up as well. He also attached a DSL filter to our receiver since we had gotten DSL at this time, and activated the receiver. This receiver now has 100 hours of recording.
The satellite signal is rarely lost here. Even though my area is well known for large storms (Buffalo October Storm anyone?), the TV still works through thunderstorms, given it isn't raining too hard. During the Buffalo October Storm, we only lost three channels, which were local channels since the 61.5 satellite dish was being blocked with snow which was the first time we have ever lost part of the system because of an obstruction. Wasn't a problem with us as we could still get to our important local channels via the other dish which was perfectly fine.
Now about the HD. I don't have HD service here, but a family relative of mine does. They've been using satellite TV for ages now, 11 years maybe and recently they got a 1080p HDTV. When they got that, they ordered HD service with the $10 a month extra, and they also got a VIP-755 DVR Receiver that handles two TVs as well. It came with 300+ hours of SD recording space, and around 60 hours of HD recording space. The picture quality via HDMI from the receiver at 1080i looks really nice. The Sci-Fi channel looks very nice, which pleases me considering I like Stargate a lot. There is an Ethernet jack in the back of the receiver which I hear is for VOD and downloading shows to the hard drive via the internet, but right now that's not in use.
Overall, DISH Network is a great company to look into when considering your options for TV or switching from Cable or OTA. Yeah there may be those times where you'll lose the signal, but if it's not storm related, a quick call to Tech Support has always ended up with someone who knows what is going on, and what satellite is not working. It's very rare for a satellite to die anyways. The nice thing about the service as well that, unlike cable, if you have an RV or another vehicle of the sort, you can bring your service with you given you can align the dish properly, but the receiver can help with that should you need it and they have those auto-locking dishes as well that can do the work for you. Their receivers are pretty durable pieces of equipment with good software on them that is stable and easy to use. I recommend this TV provider to anyone, and if your Telco has this provider in their packaging, might as well bundle them with you as it will save you some cash.

I upgraded to dish last month from Comcast, because I was tired of the lack of quality from Comcast analog signal. I complained to Comcast a couple of times because of my poor signal quality, and their response was "upgrade to or digital service" which costs a great deal more than the analog service, and has equipment rental fees.
the neatest thing I found about dish was the ability to have two TVs tuning independent channels using one STB. That along with the lack of rental fee for the equipment sealed the deal for me.
The installer was quite professional and was even kind enough to pull a string down through the wall along with the cable for the Sat, so that I could pull an Ethernet cable later. He also took the time to talk to me about my setup (I use SageTV to tune the box and distribute my TV) so that he could set everything up the way I needed it.
I would recommend dish to anyone looking to save money and still get an expanded channel lineup.

Just had Dish Network installed. Antenna was a 100.4 Turbo HD with a VIP 722 DVR receiver. Everything works and the HD quality is great. No dropouts even during serious rain storms.
The satellite service is rock solid. What made the install painless was the quality of the Dish Network installer, Kuhn Radio and Electronics in York, PA. I would highly recommend them for any satellite installation.

I have had this service for close to six months and have nothing but good things to say about it. The quality is great, and being in the Las Vegas valley, I don't experience any loss of signal because there's 320 days of sunshine per year. The HD quality is much better than what Cox has to offer, and there are far more channels.
Channel 212 (Dish Earth) is pretty amazing too. Having live views of Earth from 22,000 miles up is interesting, to say the least.
I'm not really much of a sports fan, so Dish was probably the best choice for me.
The bottom line in Vegas? Cox HSI + Dish/DirecTV is the way to go.

I ordered service on April 13 09 it took 2 service calls to get it done right. They set me up for standard equipment instead of HD On the 1st service call. I had to call back in and reorder the HD equipment which took another 4 days of waiting to get that equipment installed. The installer was pretty cool about having to come out again to swap out a dish and install a HD DVR . they also gave me free equipment upgrades to replace an old receiver that I had activated. so far the has been great the prices are decent for what I get. The only thing I don't care for is their 2 year contracts. Also I have noticed that dish network doesn't fade out that much when it rains. It still does I guess that's the way satellite is.
July 16 09
they just aided local hd channels for my area ABC,CBS/fox I would like to see some more hd channels for my area.
