My modem failed on October 31st, and so I called U-Verse support to get a replacement sent out to me (after they ran all the tests and such). The first day I called, I asked the rep if they could send a tech out with a modem that same day so I could get my replacement ASAP, but they said they don't send techs out for replacement modems and that they will ship it to me and told me I would have a new modem by the end of the day. The day ended, and the modem never came. I proceeded to call them again the next day, and they said there had been an issue with the order and that I would have the modem by the end of that day. Again, the modem never arrived. Over the next few days I called 3 more times, and each time the rep would say the modem would arrive by the end of the day, and then the modem never came. Finally, the 5th or 6th time I called, I asked the rep to check on the status of my order which I was told by the rep the day before would be arriving next day, since he put it as "high priority". The final rep told me the modem would be arriving by November 8th (that was in 4 days). They then asked if I would like them to send a tech out the next day so I can get this issue resolved since I had been struggling with it since the 31st, and so they scheduled me an appointment the next day. I am confused as to why I was not allowed to have a tech come out the first time I called, but it must be their way of showing their customers how much they care about them since they caused me to spend 4-5 days of my life calling customer service just to get a replacement modem which should have been sent to me the first time I called or delivered by a tech the first time!!! I finally got my replacement modem the next day when the tech came and installed it. Not a very happy customer at this point. Not very impressed by AT&Trash and their service. Additionally, I was told the tech would be installing a BGW210 modem for me but when he arrived he was telling quite a different story, and insisted we were "too far away from the VRAD" to use the BGW210, which made no sense to me as we can use the Pace 5268, so why wouldn't another VDSL modem work. UPDATE: 11/8/17 - I got word that RCN will be available where I am in my city hopefully by the end of the year. I am going to consider switching to them when they are available in my area. member for 6.1 years, 104 visits, last login: 2.2 years ago updated 4.4 years ago
I started out with 'At&t dsl internet' service four years ago. With that service the max download speed available is 6 Mbps for my location. My local network soon outgrew that speed so I began searching out for something faster about 15 months ago. I had decided to go with cable internet service which boasted 18 to 50+ Mbps download speeds, until I talked to Pre-sales at At&t. They assured me that I would get 20 Mbps and the transition from their other service would be seamless. All I would need to do was remove my current modem/router and put theirs (ARRIS model NVG589) in it's place, and they would do the rest. Well that turned out to be basicly true, with one problem, I was still getting only 6 Mbps speed. That was a year ago. Today I get a whopping .... 6 Mbps. Even though my At&t modem's setup/statistics built in web pages state; 'Downstream Max Attainable Rate (kbps) 21212', At&t's tech support says the only service available for my location is the 6 Mbps package. They straight up LIED to me to get another 2 years out of me. So here I am, Stuck at 6 Mbps with 12 months to go on my contract before I can switch to anything but At&t. Now I get why they switched from 12 to 24 month contracts. BEWARE! member for 21 years, 362 visits, last login: 93 days ago updated 4.4 years ago
Update: 7/19/17 AT&T fiber and AT&T internet for the matter is no longer recommended. They have SEVERE issues with Youtube peering that goes on for days at a time. DO NOT order AT&T internet if anything else is available in your area! After many many years of struggling with AT&T DSL over FTTC I finally have GigaPower. Speeds are great averaging around 900 megs down and 950 up. So far the connection has been rock solid and I really don't have any major complaints. The only thing I would say that needs to be improved is latency. To be fair this may be due to my location. If I had the service in a large city my latency would most likely be much better. I have been very vocal with my displeasure with AT&T over the years due to be left with DSL (aka 21st century dial up) and would like to say, THANKS AT&T! You have provided us with a connection that makes us feel like we're in the 21st century! member for 10.2 years, 1994 visits, last login: 3.3 years ago updated 4.7 years ago
Tried Uverse internet *again* because it was bundled with the DirecTV service for $80 a month. Service was a little better this time with another modem (5268AC vs NVG589). Earlier, I think it was overprovisioned which caused millions and millions of FEC errors, and a large number of CRC errors. AT&T should have never installed service at this location because of the distance from the dslam. I believe we had IP ASDL+. Linemen after lineman have been here looking for bad cable in a 2 mile stretch. ended up getting on another "pair" which was less noisy, but still frequent disconnects... Ended up cancelling *again*, and just using hotspots until getting hooked back up to another local provider. Another thing. Its a total fight to get the rewards and credits on your account. Were promised a $200 reward card for bundling, and a $25 credit off the directv portion for having unlimited data on the wireless side. After about 20 calls from ordering to the day I cancelled, you'll get a different story everytime you call. Eventually, got calls from the Office of the President on the Uverse and DirecTV. Was assigned a case #, but not much ever heard from them, and I got tired of emailing them and leaving voicemails. (The Uverse Manager accidentially called me on her cell phone one day, then got mad because I called her back on that line - - Barbara Langhorne was her name). She never helped me anyway. 2 days after I cancelled, the OOP called again offering a bill credit to my account(s). TOO LATE FOLKS. I think they already knew I'd cancelled, but used this as an excuse to make it seem like they were in the wrong, and attempted to resolve the issue. (I waited over a week for a response). anyways, the service might be tolerable if you live in a better service area, but definitely be aware of promises of reward cards and account credits. Will never use them for internet again, ever. member for 12.8 years, 3720 visits, last login: 2.1 years ago lodged 4.8 years ago
Ordered 50/10 about 10 days ago, had it bumped to 75/20 as my lines were capable of 100/20 (but AT&T didn't want to play ball, only begrudgingly giving me 75/20 after waiting 20 minutes for the tech to convince FACT [an internal AT&T team] to do it). The tech was super friendly, and had actually installed for me a few years ago the last time I had UV. He remembered my family, and that I was the tech-savvy one. His install was no longer than about 20 minutes tops, as I had existing wiring. All he did was change some connections at the NID and plug in an RG (a Pace 5268AC in my case), and I was online. I've been seeing 75/20 easily over Ethernet, sometimes even more. I have been provisioned on a 90 Mbps profile, so that makes sense. The downfall, however, is AT&T's Residential Gateway. I can't tell you how I REALLY feel about them, as I don't think profanity is allowed in reviews. Man, these things are a royal PITA. AT&T does NOT allow bridge mode (like cable providers do) so you can connect your own router, and let it handle DHCP/NAT/etc. Instead, the closest we get is DMZ+ or IP Passthrough (depending on brand of RG), which simply just gives your RG's public-facing IP address to a device of your choosing. DHCP on the RG itself is still running and *cannot* be disabled. As a result, I am seeing an average Wi-Fi speed of 30 Mbps in the same spots of my house I get 115 Mbps via Spectrum. I have tested the Wi-Fi with two AirPort Extremes (2013 802.11ac model) setup for a "roaming network", a T-Mobile Personal CellSpot (rebranded ASUS RT-AC68U), and a Linksys WRT3200ACM. I get identical speeds to Ethernet on Wi-Fi with Spectrum, but less than 40% (on average) with AT&T. My equipment is all fed with brand new CAT5e cabling, and I spent nearly 18 hours scrutinizing every single variable in the RG's software, my equipment's software, checking for interference, etc. The end result is that I can do nothing about it. I cannot use my own Wi-Fi equipment and get the speeds I pay for (and wow, is AT&T charging a pretty penny!) even though this was entirely possible on Spectrum. I would use my RG's internal Wi-Fi, but the range is pitiful compared to my dual AirPort Extreme setup, and I can't even see constant Wi-Fi speeds on it either. Thankfully, I did not cancel my Spectrum account quite yet. As a result, I have called up Spectrum and upgraded to 100/10. I'm now seeing upwards of 120/10 everywhere in my house on Wi-Fi, and I will be cancelling AT&T's service first thing Monday morning. If you are a basic user (that meaning don't use Wi-Fi at all, only Ethernet) or just primarily use Ethernet and don't care about your Wi-Fi speeds, go ahead and get U-verse. The time I spent with it (over Ethernet) was great. Coming from 5 Mbps upload at Spectrum, 20 Mbps upload on AT&T was a breath of fresh air and made a noticeable difference. Connection quality was rock solid, although my ping times to most places was 10-20ms higher than cable, likely due to the fact AT&T performs interleaving on their VDSL2 for error correction. I'm actually sad to be giving it up for Spectrum Ultra. But, AT&T has decided they want to lock customers into their equipment and give them no easy way to use their own. TL;DR - Connection itself was fast and rock solid. Great techs (in my experience). Using your own equipment will make you want to rip your hair out. Do NOT get UV if you want to use your own router. member for 10.1 years, 1416 visits, last login: 4 days ago updated 5 years ago
We bundled tv, internet , cell ☎ and phone. Finally coming together as one bill. Did receive free tablet when we switched from Sprint to ATT smartphones and kept same mobile numbers. Do like the idea of receiving unlimited data starting May 23 for the complete bundle of all 4 previously mentioned, plus get the $150 gift card (chuckle) . UPDATE Received post card last October stating that we were suppose to get "unlimited Data" without doing anything save using ATT, however ATT falsely advertised and instead has been gouging us with "overage charges". We received today an advert stating they have new "advantage plans" where there is not any overage charges, so will give that a whirl. member for 15.7 years, 386 visits, last login: 2.9 years ago updated 5.2 years ago
Usage consisting of netflix/amazon/firetv would exceed 1tb cap. Choice was to pay $30 extortion fee or get hit with upto $100 overages. Paying a premium for 45mbps to hit the same data cap as 18mb for more money was pointless Switched to 3rd party Uverse, same service without the data limitations member for 20.5 years, 3159 visits, last login: 1.3 years ago updated 5.3 years ago
After having U-Verse ADSL2 for a year I noticed that some of our neighbors were on VDSL. The online database said only ADLS2. The normal tech support and sales channels did not help. I reached out to the social media team and Direct support here on the forums. After having them research my address it was determined I was green for VDSL. They scheduled a Saturday installation and came out within 3 days as they had to disconnect my ADSL2 line to put through the order. The onsite tech was AWESOME! He was professional and very helpful and insightful. He even went as far as to condition my second pair to my house in hopes I would get pair bonding in the future! I have had it for almost 6 months and it is solid. Never had a problem with it. I am in a newer neighborhood so our copper is newer, but I am extremely happy with our service and pricing. They discounted the modem and internet since I had to "go through the trouble" of ordering. I am just happy it works!! First off, it took a very long time to install this internet. We had to argue with them on the phone to get an earlier date. 2 techs wouldn't take the time to install a phone jack at first. The third tech installed the phone jack and it wasn't my tech. It was my neighbors tech that was getting service too. My landlord has internet that's further and it's stable. AT&T said it's not the phone jack blah blah blah. They said not to cancel the internet because they aren't allowed to install internet over here anymore. It's pretty much that they don't know what they are doing. The office of the president was unhelpful and didn't care if the internet ever got fixed. We have bonded pair adsl+ with 1.5mb and 384kb upload. I don't recommend this provider period unless you have no other options. You can't use any other router unless you have a third party router in dmz+. You have to use there modem. The data cap is 1 terabyte. I never go over but it's pretty bad that they have data caps in the first place. member for 8.6 years, 763 visits, last login: 335 days ago updated 5.4 years ago
I live in a rural community in Texas. Before this, I lived in a bustling suburb. In the suburb, I had a 60mbps cable connection with 5mbps upload. I work from home. I am an IT executive for a software company. The cable connection was almost perfect except when there was the occasional outage. Where I live now, the only thing available is AT&T Uverse DSL 6mbps down and 512kbps up. 512 up!! Can you purchase more upload? No! I have to have more upload for video conferences and web trainings. I can't easily get fixed wireless because I'm surrounded by trees. At the moment I'm looking into building a 50' tower so that I can switch to one of the fixed wireless providers in the area. They all have terrible support BUT I can get a 15 Mbps down and 3 mbps up connection for $69. Still pricey but ANYTHING will be better than AT&T's racket. My boss has a fixed wireless connection (for over 10 years in fact) and it's just as stable as my cable connection was. I'm so tired of companies capping upload speeds at such a ridiculous difference to download speeds. 2 Mbps should be the cap - that's what most video streaming needs for a decent stream. member for 6.9 years, 66 visits, last login: 2.8 years ago lodged 5.6 years ago
