    ISP REVIEW FOR T-ONLINE, GERMANY

Where to begin.......I live in Wiesbaden, Germany.
My ISP is T-Online, which is a subsidiary company of Deutsche Telekom. The
prices before a year ago or so were not really affordable for DSL. Since
T-Online was the ONLY ISP offering this connection, and for the most part
still is, they could do as they please. More on this later.
Not sure where you could file this, but here is my story from Horror to
    success.
I ordered DSL from T-Online in March 00. I called a few times and they said
they were back logged and blah-blah-blah.
They also said they would send me the Ethernet card and DSL Modem by mail
and I should have them in a couple of days.
Well, I received my Ethernet card (no DSL Modem) and was filled with joy. I
even put that baby in and installed the software cuz I wanted to be ready
    when the modem came.
Turns out I waited a looooong time for the modem.

After a few weeks I started calling again. They had no record of my
application for DSL. I filed it over 7 weeks ago I told them, in fact I
have my Ethernet card that was mailed by you! Well, they put it in the
system again. After about 1 weeks I got a letter from them to call for an
appointment. Weeeeeee, I was on my way.........NOT! I called and the
soonest they could come install was 6 weeks away!
Well, after letting the guy know how long I'd already been waiting and
arguing again and again, I hung up on his ass. (just like they did my later
    on when I had trouble...suckers).
So, after I calmed down....a week or so. I gave them a call. Well, my
    application disappeared again (go figure).
I decided to go down to the store this time in person instead of on the
phone. I went down there and fortunately they had an installer right there
at the time I walked in. Well, no application was found again, so I watched
the installer teach this guy how to put my application in the computer. He
said I would get my modem in a couple of days through the mail. And I did!
Also received a new model Ethernet card.
About 2 weeks went by and nothing. I had to call Telekom about a friends
issue and got a lady that spoke English. I asked her about it and she
looked it up for me. Nope, there is no application on file. I told her I
even received the Modem and Ethernet card by mail. Well, it's end of August
    now!
She helped me finish fixing my friends ISDN problem when out of the blue she
said "There it is!" She found my original application dated March 2000.
She fixed it up and sent it in again.
I got DSL installed and running on 22 October 2000!!!
It worked 4 days and went down. Came back up after 4 days and went back
down. I called and said I've had DSL for two weeks now and it's only worked
for one. The sent out a tech rep. He went all through my system and
couldn't really locate a problem. We took cards out and just moved them
from slot to slot. Nothing would work. Finally, it worked! He thought it
was the ISDN card causing conflicts. I just said okay. After a couple of
weeks the same thing happened! The same tech rep came back and was there
for 4 hours. He finally came to the conclusion that the T-Online software
Disk was bad! We took the software out and did a dial up networking
    connection and boom! It works!
Since this time it's been working, but slow many times.

T-Online is still the only affordable DSL offering ISP in my area. I've
located others but they mostly just do businesses. One that was offered
through my old ISP costs DM449 per month for 144kbps connection!! That's
    $250!!!!
The prices at T-online just went down in June 00. I have the flat rate for
    DM49 ($25 which ain't bad) for up to 768/128.
Before this DSLR I was getting about 110/98 or something.
After a few tweaks and downloads, I have a healthy setup and running at
711/133. Just downloaded RASPPoE and will see if I can squeeze out a bit
    more.
I beleive things are going smoother now though. Telekom and T-Online wanted to get Geramny the biggest broadband country in Europe and they did it at the expense of the customer.....me (I'm getting pissed again).
I believe the initial surge has dropped a bit now so the process may be faster that 7 months!!!!!!! They bit off more than they could chew and we paid for it.
Bottom line......Be very patient if you're going to get DSL from T-online.
