They publish a national number but always transfer you to a local office so you get to experience two different automated phone answering systems. Been dropped several times they never call back. They start a new with each call, they don't keep notes. The web site is unusable except to make payments, or see a summary of your last bill. Office is in a very bad part of town, they have a security guard if you can get inside and the tellers are protected by bullet proof glass. My one trip was to return their modem they claim that was the only way.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience...

Stan,

My name is Gary and I work for Bright House Networks. I would like to address several of the concerns you have raised and will be sending you my direct contact information.

Chrisemmyta

@orlandotelco.net

Same issues and paying double the price!

I'll start by saying that you literally wrote everything I'm experiencing and concerned with this company the only difference (the worst part too) I pay $145+ every month for this poor service. I'm so upset I've been tempted to cancel my services right away if it wasn't for my apartment complex partnering up with Bright House and including cable in their lease for $80 a month (no HD channels included). I actually pay $65 more a month to get the same channels but HD. Because I cannot make changes to my lease I'm stuck with Bright House until God knows when!

Brighthouse

Apparently, Brighthouse and Dish Networks have a monopoly in this area. I cannot find another isp, and am getting seriously frustrated.

I was hoping to find another isp with better pricing, but that is not in the cards. I hope to hell that Google Fiber comes to Brevard County SOON!

I have had my service for almost 2 years now and it has been excellent.
My previous review was based on another area which had cable problems.
I should have waited before I evaluated my service at my current address.
The tech support on this website has been amazing.

My Other Reviews

*** Update 10/13/2012 ***

I got the Netgear replaced with a Motorola SBG6580 in bridge mode and I'm using a Linksys E900 Router. I had some issues with getting knocked offline that should be fixed. The tech that came out did a professional job and answered my questions and was patient with me when I thought things weren't going as I expected. Speed tests are good, I'm getting the service I'm paying for. If the review scale went higher I'd rate tech support a 6 if I could. I'm happy with the service, the only way I could be happier was if it was free.

*** Original review ***

Had existing cable service, ordered a HD box and Turbo internet. Both work great. My only issues are the ancient Netgear CGD24G wireless cable gateway the tech installed and the sticky IP.

The gateway works but I would have preferred a wireless N router since most of the high bandwith usage devices like my Roku HD, PC and Xbox 360 all have Wireless N and I'd prefer it if the IP address changed every once in a while. I'm not paying for a static IP, I don't need a static IP, but I'm sure all the data mining services on the internet love it. I guess I could always use a VPN service that issues random IPs if I really wanted too.

Internet installation was a breeze, the tech came out and installed a splitter on the existing cable then run a cable from the splitter to the gateway. He verified the internet was working and I did a speedtest, got something close to 18/2. The HD box was also easy, just plugged the necessary cables in and it was good to go.

Compared to the DIY approach with dsl, I didn;t have to fiddle with any settings or go through some installation process, the tech did it all. All I really had to do was sign the paperwork when he finished.

10 MBps down/ 1 MBps up. BHN price for Internet is lower then Verizon. Unfortunately BHN keeps finding clever ways to keep raising their prices without adding any further value. The service is slow certain times of the day. About once or twice a month we loose connection and have to reboot the modem. If there was another less costly alternative I would leave then in a flash.

Live in deed restricted community. Problem 1 there. Have one company to give me basic channels because of developer. Then have secondary billing for services. When I am on a fixed income cannot afford higher fees and services. So I cut back. But may want to custom my services if i can.has been very good in past. Paying for Standard 10 mbps ( only getting 5mbps the max) dp2203c functions sometimes good sometimes bad. reset at times. Now getting bombed with sales pitch to return and price is same as i paid before. I know it may not be there fault but help me out here. Currently have no tv service but may want it again If can get something i can afford. May even want to up dsl speed. But would like my own equipment.

My Other Reviews

·Verizon FiOS
Upon moving to Florida, I gave Brighthouse/RoadRunner a try because my new neighborhood locks homeowners into their TV service at a discounted rate. My latency was horrible and throughput was usually around half of what I was paying for. Through many tests I found 99% of traffic was routed from my local area (Tampa, FL) to Dallas, TX, before ever seeing the light of day. No wonder my experience was horrible. Their staff (even the local network "engineer" I spoke with) were not in any way knowledgeable or helpful except in making the decision to cancel.

Verizon FiOS, on the other hand, has exceeded my expectations. Traffic is intelligently routed. Throughput is 90-100% of what I'm paying for in every test. To my surprise, I'm actually saving $2/month over the *discounted* Brighthouse rate (how is this possible???). With brighthouse I had 20/2 service (paid for, not actually receiving), FiOS is 15/5. I'm just thrilled with it all.

If you want to compare services, doing online speed tests are great but not always 100% accurate. Try doing your own FTP/SCP/HTTP large file transfer tests. Also do traceroutes to the servers you frequent. You will definitely see that FiOS is superior.

Sorry to see you go...

Thank you for taking the time to post your review however I wish you had contacted me prior to making the swtich as it is likely I would have been able to resolve this to your satisfaction. If you change your mind feel free to reach out to me.

Also....tracerts are a poor measure of anything as you can only see the outbound path which is not normally where the problem is doing you absolutely no good as the inbound path from the server you are connecting will likely take a different path. FTP and the other methods you suggested are notoriously inaccurate because you have again no idea of the quality of the inbound path nor status or loading of the connecting server or if they are using any form of traffic management or load balancing.

Thanks,

Gary

Ordered the highest tier of residential service, Roadrunner Lightning. It came with a provision of 40mbs/5mbs for a cost of $81 dollars a month. With a modem/router rental of $2 dollars it totals to $83/month. Was looking for a service under the current $120 bill for DSL that included bundled phone. Due to cell phones we dont use the home line and with the problems that ISP had, most notably that the quality of service has been lacking for some time. With only a 10mbs/768kbs provision it should be a large step up in speed with the new service and with speed hopefully quality.

The sales information on the website and over the phone were excellent and when the company called to confirm details they were able to bump my installation to a day earlier. When the installer arrived we walked through the house and located a suitable Jack to use. After a few minutes the modem was online and a quick connection to the wireless confirmed it was receiving signal and fully up and running. The installation fees were waived due to a current promotion which made the missus very happy.

After a couple days of normal use the family has noticed much improved service quality from our previous provider. Pages load faster, HD video streaming is smother and has less errors, gaming is smooth and doesn't suffer from frequent lag spikes. When the mom of the house who used to constantly complain of this site not loading or that page element not loading now exclaims in glee at how many of her problems suddenly dissapeared and how much she likes not having to fight with her browser, I know ive found something special.

The only issues are an old Linksys USB Wireless adapter receives a poor signal and constantly disconnects, about every 90 seconds or so. This is despite only having to go through 1 interior wall at a flat angle and a total distance of about 15 feet. We got a new adapter, and after updating drivers to the latest, as the included drivers didnt even connect at all, it saw and connected to the router without issue. The other problem is the router itself is locked down. We werent given a login or password to allow us to change the wireless channel or secure it with our own wireless key. While this keeps the SBG6580 modem/router from getting misused or set incorrectly with inexperienced users it is disheartening to not feel trusted to administer your own network. If this is a real issue you can call tech support to have them set the modem to bridge mode and you can use your own router instead.

Overall the speed has been noticeably more consistent and even during times where 3 users are firing away it handles it like a champ.

Thanks BrightHouse!

Re: Thank you Tim!

Not the experience i had! see below
I had the Bright House EarthLink service for years. This spring I finally bit the bullet and switched to Road Runner Lightening. Big difference huh? No way! The technician (generous term) installed a Ubee DDW3611 modem; went to the speed test site, and showed me I was getting incredible speed; provided me with no information not even my new R.R. email address and left. Before he reached the stop sign at the corner I was disappointed. THIS couldn’t be what I was now paying big bucks for. No noticeable difference at all, in fact, poorer performance than I had before. I was now waiting for simple YouTube videos to load. A day or so later I called Bright House to complain and they checked things “from their end” and told me I am getting speed as advertised. There were no changes to my system other than the new connection.
SOMETHING is obviously wrong.

*This is an updated review, update at bottom*

I moved here to Florida from New Jersey around 7 years ago, since that time I have used Bright House networks for all my services (tv, phone, internet) In my first home the service was fine in Ormond Beach. I moved to Holly Hill 3 yrs ago and the service has been horrible since than. My cable tv will freeze, run slow, and be pixelated. My internet will slow down to the point of being unusable every other day for at least an hr or 2, or will shut off completely, when it does, my phone goes out too. I have had numerous service calls, replaced every line in my home, replaced the modem twice, and the cable box once, all the same issues. Service techs have been here and tested every piece of my equipment multiple times, last service tech said he even swapped my port up on the pole in hopes that it would help with my service. That same tech told me that the next time i had to call in because of a service interruption to tell the support tech on the phone that the problem isn't with my home but on their end. Again, today, my internet/phone cut out and my tv is pixelated so bad the sound was cutting out with the picture. I call customer support, explain my issues, my past service calls, what has been done here, and told him what the last tech said about the issue not being at my home, his response? Must be my modem. He wanted me to swap my modem again, and then he reset my cable box. sure my tv has better picture now cuz they found a 'glitch' on their end, but how long was this 'glitch' there for while i was paying? How soon till this 'glitch' starts messing up my signal quality again? After he reset my cable box he said he wanted to send out another tech to swap out my modem. I told him the modem was only about 8 months old, he tried to tell me that was a long time. I told him again, that i was told to tell him that the issue is not on my end, he just said, "Well, I don't know what to tell you" Seriously? I call you for help and you tell me that you don't know what to do other than change out my modem for a 3rd time? 2 other ISP's recently came into the neighborhood and i've begun shopping around, 3 yrs and still no improvement.

*UPDATE 8/31/2012*

After reaching out to DSLReports.com, our Brighthouse services have been fixed! It only took 2 service calls and just under 3 months talking back and forth with BHNtechXpert to find and solve the issue. To some that may sound like a long time, but it really isn't in comparision. Me and my fiance were thrilled after our last service call because the issue was finally found. (Signal levels were too high).

We were dealing with intermittent service interruptions (randomly the cablebox pixelated or blacked out and/or modem cut out) for years (since our install) and it was frustrating for us because the techs and local office just kept telling us everything was perfect even though it wasn't. They would reset our devices over the phone and schedule service calls that resulted in the same outcome everytime. Around 8 months ago we had a tech who was very knowledgeable who told us after all his testing, that the issue wasn't at our home, but everyone we spoke to after that didn't acknowledge that until BHNtechXpert did enough testing and information gathering and escalated our service call after contacting him on here. With that information passed to the last tech who came out, one of the lead service techs for the area, who came with that info and our history found the issue his 1st visit. Hope he doesn't mind me using his first name, but Mark (lead service tech) even had the maintenance crews out that day in our neighborhood adjusting the signal for our home, the crew chief even called me and told me he found the issue at an amp and even called back after he was done fixing it to let us know it was done and to make sure everything was working perfect. Mark than called a few days later to make sure everything was still working perfectly.

If you're here and unsatisfied with your service, give the techs on here a shot at your issue before you switch services. For us they were much more knowledgeable and got the information needed to the right people. Our internet was always fast, but interrmittent, since that day I haven't seen it cut out on us once, and our tv is a night and day difference in picture quality and speed. (no more slow guides/On Demand). All and all after contacting BHNtechXpert on here, we're extremely satisfied now with our services.

++UPDATE: 2/25/07

I recently made the switch back to POTS (Bellsouth/AT&T) due to many call quality/reliability issues with my Brighthouse line. I had them come out a few times but it seems to be a problem in the area (too many customers in a short period of time). I spoke with several people who have their service and they were frustrated as well.

Problems I had:

1. Sometimes didn't get a dial tone when picking up my phone.
2. People didn't hear me but I heard them.
3. Not as reliable as Brighthouse claims.
4. Echo

I won't be switching back as i'm happy with Bellsouth. I was able to get a great deal since i'm switching from Brighthouse.

++UPDATE: 5/5/06

Just recently, Brighthouse unveiled a "Unlimited Florida" plan which gave you unlimited calls to anywhere in Florida (instead of the entire US). This works perfectly for me and it's only $28.99 a month. I use my cell phone for long distance calls so I didn't need it on the phone. It dropped my bill from $39.99 to $28.99. Service has continued to be flawless and I am slowly converting family to Digital Phone. I was a VoicePulse customer and it doesn't even compare (VP was good but Digital Phone is great).

If it's available, get it!

-----------------

I decided to make the switch from VoicePulse to Brighthouse Digital Phone and couldn't be happier. My main problem with VoicePulse was 1) E-911 was non-existent in my area (and they didn't know when it would be available) and 2) I was having serious call quality issues with 50% of my upload being used (QoS enabled, ports forwarded, etc).

My Brighthouse Digital Phone has been excellent quality and very reliable. I have had no problems what so ever, installation was a snap and porting was very quick. I couldn't ask for a better overall experience activating my service.

I would recommend Brighthouse to anyone who is in the market for a good, reliable VoIP. As a primary phone line, you just can't go with the little guys.
