Ordered this after SunRocket. Had it for one year, mid 2007- mid 2008. They make is easy to order. They make it easy to pay. Customer service is bad. Sound quality and reliability are terrible. It took them forever to get my hardware sent out, they of course started charging me immediately. It took a few calls to finally get the hardware. They never comped me time I was without service due to lack of hardware. Quality and reliability problems: huge delay, static, incoming calls don’t always ring through, voice mail doesn’t always answer when calls don’t ring through, voice mail doesn’t always answer when calls do ring through, voice mail message notification doesn’t always reach the phone base promptly, outgoing calls don’t always connect. I could go on, but you get the idea – stay away. I’m on to PhonePower now, so far, tons better – I’ll review them once I’ve had their service a little longer.

Ordered VOIP.com 8/14/07. The telephone adapter did not arrive until a month and a half later. Because the TA arrived after the 30 day guarantee, and the company was giving many other customers problems with cancelling service, I tried to give the company time to get their problems worked out, but my service never worked properly. I tried all the instructions provided on the forum, but after 4 months, the service still worked terribly. Sometimes the other caller would not hear me, sometimes I would not hear them, often the TA would reset the IP address and I would have to reprogram it. It was definitely not the internet provider because I have ATT Callvantage now and it works great. I returned the adapter and waited patiently for my refund, but after cancelling on 12/4/07, it is 1/6/08 and I still have not received a refund. I posted on their forum and requested the refund of $117.36 they owe me after the $39.99 cancellation fee, which I should not have to pay because the adapter arrived after the 30 day guarantee. They replied that "Annual plans are paid for annually. You are in a 1 year contract, so while we can reactivate the service, we do not issue refunds ." which is not true because on 12/3/07 I converted to a monthly account. Even if I was an annual customer and there is such a thing as a "prepaid annual contract" I should receive a refund because the service never worked properly! They further replied, "Even had we extended the 30 trial until you received the adapter and started your 30 days then, you would still be well out of that time period also. You had a yearly contract, even though you changed to monthly service, you are still under the original commitment. As previously stated, we can reactivate the service, but we don't issue refunds on the balances." Bad business practice!!! There is no such thing as a yearly 'contract' detailed in their advertising or in their terms of service. I certainly never agreed to any sort of contract. Their terms of service are vague, and the TOS and refund policy has changed while I was a customer. I've reported them to the BBB and the FCC. Not to mention the fact that I had also added prepaid money that they are not refunding. I am thoroughly disgusted by VOIP.com's unethical business conduct and lack of scruples. STAY AWAY!!!!!

UPDATE: If you've experienced a VOIP.com nightmare, please file a complaint with Florida State Consumer Protection and the FTC against:

We had reliable phone service for over a year and a half prior to July of 2007, with another VOIP service provider, Sunrocket. Unfortunately, Sunrocket went out of business, apparently due to taxation issues, forcing us and over 100,000 other customers to immediately seek replacement phone service. We chose voip.com with the consideration that voip.com clearly implies on their company website, »www.voip.com/how_voip_works.aspx - that service, even on multiple telephone lines exists, “with no loss in functionality, reliability, or voice quality” (page 2 of 3).

We agreed to switch to voip.com for our home phone service, pre-paying for one full year of service July 17, 2007, with the promise of a $50 mail in rebate. The full amount of one year of service was charged to our credit card on July 24th. Taking in to consideration the rebate, our total "out the door" cost for one year of service was about $175. We did not receive the equipment to begin using the service until early August, about three weeks after the clock started on our year of service.

We experienced multiple problems with voip.com service going back to August. Keep in mind that Voip.com does not have a way for its existing customers to call in to report problems with their service. They do have a toll free number to call for selling new accounts. Existing customers are relegated to reporting problems on an online website: »forum.voip.com.

On this forum, I reported well over 25 issues related just to our service. Some were resolved successfully. For example, after over three months, we never received our $50 rebate. I reported this and voip.com claimed it did not receive it in the mail. Yet, they did supply a $50 credit to our account. A portion of that credit remains on our account as of the time of this writing.

However, the bulk of problems with our service as reported to »forum.voip.com went unresolved. Feel free to explore this forum, using the SEARCH feature on author TDFULLER.

Furthermore, what was even more discouraging was the lack of solutions to most of these problems. Voip.com customer service is friendly, but near totally ineffective solving problems. In fact, the typical advice was to “reboot your equipment,” even after the advice was given multiple times, sometimes for weeks on end, to resolve the same problem.

In early March of 2008, we became discouraged enough with voip.com’s lack of service, that we purchased replacement service with a competing merchant, Packet8 (8X8). Packet8 service has been very good, unlike that of voip.com. In early March, our phone number transferred to Packet8, at which time I submitted an online request to voip.com to cancel our account and refund our money.

Voip.com so far has not refunded anything. The message given to us via their website after submitting the cancellation request was that they would simply cancel our service at renewal – July 17, 2008. This in effect will bill us for an entire year of service; service that was supposed to be functional, reliable, and have inherently good voice quality, when it did not.

Furthermore, we paid Skype and other alternative phone merchants during the times we retained voip.com service, in the mistaken belief that voip.com would fix the issues that forced us to pay for, and use, alternative services in the interim.

It is in my view, that unless drastic changes are made by voip.com to its phone service, and to its technical problems resolution, it will suffer large losses due to customer attrition – and this company will soon cease to exist.

As of the time of this writing, I have prepared about 20 pages of documentation to mail to our credit card company to obtain a refund. But I will wait a little while to give voip.com ample time to respond. I will try to return and update this forum later.

    UPDATE: MARCH 25, 2008

Well, I decided to try one last time and try to call voip.com. Amazingly, I got through to a human being that was not on the sales end, in minutes. The rep looked up my account and said it was set to cancel after the completion of one year. I already knew this. I asked for a refund b/c of all of my problems. The rep initially said that voip.com gave no refunds or partial refunds even if you buy one year of service in advance. After stating matter of factly, I have my documentation ready to mail in to VISA and to the Better Business Bureau, they agreed to refund the unused portion of the year.

The credit did post to my credit card today. I still am tempted to mail in the documentation anyway, just because I had to exert leverage on them to do the right thing. The refund does not cover the 9 months of sub-par to non-existence service I had while with voip.com. At least they did respond and give a partial refund. One of the few positives I have experienced with this company.

    UPDATE: APRIL 9, 2008

Unbelievable! Just when I thought voip.com was done and behind us, they charged our credit card $65 for RETURNING the adapter. I called to ask why, especially given that when I last talked to voip.com to close the account and secure the balance refund on my account voip.com did not ask me to return the adapter. I offered!

Guess what, I can't get through yet again by phone. Even when I select the billing department, I get the endless recording loop to use their website. This is war. Now I am going to submit all documentation to Chase disputes to ask them to remove this charge, and the full year charge given all the trouble this company has given my wife and I. This company is completely unethical.

Voip.com wants to charge me 35.95 for a cancellation fee and 42.90 for one month of use even though I cancelled within the 30 day period. I don't get a money back guarantee because I had a ported number (had my home phone number transferred to voip.com) and went over the 200 minute limit for the 30 trial. They don't want to admit that they provided poor customer service and failed to answer my email in a timely manner. Also, 170 minutes of the 352 minutes total were used to dial viop.com trying to get help. The phone lines were so busy I couldn't get through. One time I was on hold for 75 minutes. I believe this to be a poorly run company that does not know the meaning of customer service.

My emails were answered 8, 9, 14 and 16 days after I wrote them I believe a company that takes pride in their product and the people who buy their product should be able to provide at least a 48 hour response time. I never received what they were supposed to provide with the service, i.e. call waiting, call forwarding, caller ID and voice mail. It took at least two weeks for the modem to arrive after I signed up. I returned their equipment to them within 30 days.

I had my service for only a week. My phone went dead after the first week, and I had no choice but to seek another provider. Voip.com refuses to give me any kind of credit for my trouble or their lack of service. They say I had the phone, used the minutes and had a ported number so tough luck.

I ordered the unlimited plan from this company.

Let me start off by saying that they are located here in the same city I live in--Irving, TX. There is NO HOPE for me. Imagine how much hope there is for you.... None! That's right.

The service would randomly die. It would also (somehow?) take over my router! I would have to power down all of my devices at home because the crappy VOIP router they sent me somehow reversed the power and took control of my network as if it was the real router of traffic. WTF?

That's the least of my problems, though. It happened every month or so. Who knows why. At least it tried working those times.

The features list is long and great, but HALF OF THE FEATURES DON'T WORK. I can't tell you how many hours I spent arguing and cursing at their tech support. There's a team of about four (or less) people that do support over there, so if you don't like one of them, they'll share those feelings with the other guys. It seems like it's just one big happy family that steals your money.

I used to have Lingo, and I thought that service sucked. I'd give anything to go back to them... I'm instead going to most likely switch back to Vonage. I just hope that before I do that, there is some company that offers number blocking, or selective call forwarding... That'll be a hard search.

I rarely complain about tech companies, but this is one time where I have to. Don't bother going to this company to save $5 a month. It's not worth it.

STAY AWAY FROM VOIP.COM UNLESS YOU ENJOY WASTING MONEY!!! After SunRocket went down, I saw the ad for voip.com, which appeared to be a great alternative. WHAT A MISTAKE! Although I was charged immediately when signing up, I received no service or equipment for a month (their SoftPhone didn't work either) so my only communications with them was via their email support tickets. When I finally did receive their adapter, it was not as shown on their site (completely misleading) and could not be used without having a network router. I then had to purchase a router ($40.05 from Dell). All this time, I repeatedly requested full credit until I could get their service to work. This never happened.

Their adapter must have been faulty, as it did not activate to give a dial tone. I spent two days unhooking and rehooking modems, routers, adapters, etc. (per their instructions), in an attempt to use their service, but nothing worked. I then had enough and sent them a cancellation. To my surprise, they had the nerve to charge an additional month's service, equipment charge, and cancellation fee. I returned the useless adapter (at my expense) and still no refund or credit. So far, they have cost me $149.44, plus many hours of frustration. I have since reported them to the Better Business Bureau, and am still trying to get a refund.

I located another service (ITP), and had phone service within a week of signing up with them.

    My VOIP.COM experience

I was sorry to hear of the first reveiwer's experience with voip.com.

My experience has been just the opposite. My equipment arrived in a timely manner, my old phone number was ported earlier than they promised, my softphone feature worked almost immediatley after signing up, and I have not had any service or use issues in the 7 months so far. (Knock on wood.)

Sometimes everything that can go wrong does, but hopefully it is not the norm for the majority. I do however look at reviews such as this when looking for new products services. Especially services which include a monthly charge or for which I depend on.

Good luck to all IP telephony users.

One parting thought, your Internet-based phone service quality and reliability can be no better than your ISP provider.

I ordered voip.com 6 weeks ago and received my equipment within 7 days. Installation was super easy and quick. A couple days after activating, I was unable to make or receive calls and notified tech support via online form. The problem was fixed the next day, but I didn't receive word from tech support for about 5 days afterwards. They said they were having a server problem at the time of my trouble.

I have experienced some "dropped calls", some "dead air", and some voice quality problems, but am able to quickly resolve these myself by either power cycling the voip adapter or resetting my entire home network (cable modem, switch and voip adapter). Although some of these problems I'm sure are due to voip.com service, I think some is due to Comcast issues. Regardless, it is a minor inconvenience to reset my equipment, and one I am willing to live with for the great price of $199 a year for unlimited long distance calling.

For the past couple of weeks, the problems are fewer and further between. I think voip.com is making improvements. Overall I am satisfied with the service I receive from Voip.com. I recommend this provider to anyone who wants cheap unlimited calling.

    VOIP.com problems

I've been having LOTS of problems with VOIP.com - and they occur every day. First, let me say that I also have Comcast, and my local tests indicate that I get 4mbps down and 1 mbps up. To Florida, I get 2 mbps down and about 800 up. The bandwidth is there.

    I have the following problems:
    - My callers lose my voice channel - I can hear them but they can't hear me. No, I'm not doing downloads at the time. This happens very frequently.
    - I get random wrong numbers when I dial. Yes, I am dialing the correct number, but they just end up on the wrong place.
    - Sometimes the call is just disconnected.
    - Sometimes the lights will go out on the ATA. Just go out - no connectivity.

I have no idea what is causing the problems. I've been down the road of resetting my equipment, but here's the deal. I don't WANT to have to reset my equipment. If I've got plenty of bandwidth, why would I be having these problems?

    Re: VOIP.com problems

I have voip.com too. main reason I got them is because of the selective call forwarding option they have.(this way if I call my voip # from my cell, it recognizes my number and forwards it to selected number in Canada!!!) I did have couple of call drops with them, recently I found out that at least once when I called a friend it showed a different number on their caller ID. I live in Southern CA, it showed a NY number (646). Anyone else has experienced this??

    FIRST HAND STORY WIHT VOIP.COM

I have had voip.com for 3 months and been trying to cancell from the second week. today is 10/09/07. and finally got my account cancelled.
This whole shit is a racket. PLEASE DO YOUR SELF A FAVOR AND GO TO SOME BODY ELSE> THEY Will charge you money in advance which they will never return and will never ever cancell your account in first 30 days if you want to cancel.

Here is the punch line:: which i learned today ::::

You will be charged $65 for not returning equipment. fine if you don't return the equipment. But if you miss their origional packing BOX from USPS. you still will be charged the full $65 for not returning your equipment. I think that shit is freeking stupid. If you return all the wires adaptors and all the BS which comes with it you should not get charged that $65. which is on top of the cancellation fee.

And if you are thinking that you have that monthly plan and you will not get any cancellation fee since that is not a contract. KEEP DREAMING> cause they still charge you the cancellation fee.

DON't SIGN UP ON LINE> GET FEEL OF THEIR SHITTTTTTTTY CUSTOMER SERVICE>

Although I have not had the service for a month yet, I am writing this review based on my initial experience because there are a lot of people looking for new voip service after the demise of Sunrocket. Things initally went very well, but for the past three days I have been unable to place calls. I get a dialtone, but nothing happens when I dial. I can receive calls with no problems. I suspect it is because they are overloaded with new customers from SunRocket, but my patience will wear thin.

I switched from Time Warner's (TWC) Digital Phone after they sold my information to telemarketers and then stated they were going to charge me $7.95/month to make my number unlisted after I complained. So, I signed up for VOIP.com after researching several voips. I would have chosen Vonage, but after reading about a lawsuit they lost I decided to look elsewhere. Within minutes of opening an account online, VOIP.com assigned me a temporary number for use while my number was being ported from Time Warner. The temporary number would allow me to use the Linksys 2102 adapter after it arrived a few days later. VOIP stated on their website that it could take up to a month to port my number, but in reality the porting was complete by August 1 as promised. During the wait, they sent emails every few days updating me on the status of the number porting. The call quality is very high and the features are numerous. Included in the $19.99 is voice mail (extra with TWC). All phone features can be managed online or from your telephone, and you can even set voice mail messages to be emailed to any address you choose. You can selectively forward calls, block some calls or set the phone on do not disturb. In short, they have many more features than TWC at less than half the price. They also offer an option to pay for an entire year for only $199. There's no contract, so canceling won't be a big deal if it doesn't work out. One thing they lack seems to be tech support. I called about something very simple, and after a wait of about 15 minutes was put through to a guy who sounded like he was in a foreign country and he definitely had trouble with English. Other calls involved wait times over an hour, so I hung up. They do have comprehensive help and faqs online, and I have gotten one response through email when I contacted them that way. However, that was right after I signed up July 14, 2007. More recently, early August, I have had NO response to emails about my problem of not being able to dial out.

At this point, I will be patient for about another week since the service was great at first. After that, I'm outta there.

UPDATE 8/18/07: As of the end of this week, all my support tickets were finally addressed by VOIP.com. My phone service has been operational and clear for the past week.

I had horrible trouble all last week, but finally my service seems to be working. I have read that a lot of folks had trouble with them and I am really kind of playing a wait and see with them. If I have any more trouble I'm going to jump ship myself either to Vonage or something else. I love all the features of VOIP, and that is why I chose it primarily.

    poor service

I tired of the excuses already. I waited three weeks for the equipment and when it arrived it was non-functional, and when I tried to submit a trouble ticket, (there is no longer a human to talk to), some idiot let an old trouble ticket open and since it was some geniuses idea to allow only one open trouble ticket at a time I can't submit another. This really blows.

I would advise not doing buisness with this company until they have solved their growing pains.

    Re: Absolutely Poor Service

I was excited about going with VoIP; however, even with ordering my service on 1 August following SunRocket's demise, my adapter had STILL not been shipped as of 16 August. When I sent an initial ticket in to inquire whether I would be eligible for some type of adjustment to my anniversary date, they come back with, "Well, you can use our SoftPhone feature." So, I downloaded SoftPhone from VoIP, only to find out that it is NOT yet compatible with Vista!!! Then I do some digging around their website and I see that they have instructions for a LinkSys SPA2102 modem (which is the exact model I had with SunRocket). I try to see if I could get THAT to work, and could not, so I attempt to open a second ticket, only to find out that they had not closed the first one and, as stated earlier, VoIP has this really GREAT (sarcasm) idea of only allowing ONE ticket at a time. So, now I want to call them (Tech Support) and ask these questions (as well as to have them close my ticket), and I am on hold for 30-40 minutes at a time, only to be cut off in the first 5-10 seconds of actually being transferred to a tech. Not once or twice...but FIVE times! Finally, I said enough of this...I transferred my number to Vonage last night. I would definitely stay clear of VoIP until they resolve their growing pains...and even THEN, I'd seriously be skeptical of them.

I switched to their service from sunrocket, waited almost 3 weeks for equipment which turned out to be only a phone adapter, not the linksys 2102 listed on the web site. Needless to say the service did not work and according to customer service, I needed a router and they weren't going to provide it. So I spent $70 for the linksys model listed on their site(unlocked, of course)and still nothing. I have called customer service four times tonight, fortunately wait time was graciously short but they can only patronize and make simple suggestions after I tell them I have tried everything(many, many times!)suggested on their web site. They are very quick to get me off the phone and hang up while I am still talking, mid sentence. They will send me e-mail info on returning phone adapter but cannot offer me any advice on what to do with this new router with BUILT-IN phone adapter. I know I hooked it up right. I ask why they can't help, they are after all tech support, right? That's when they hang up on me.

    BEWARE: voip.com

    My experience with VOIP.COM

I signed up with them on August 15 for one year. And they charged my credit card $200 on the 17th. I received their initial 'automated' email the same day, indicating that it "may" take 7 - 10 days for shipping. It's not what I wanted to hear, but oh well. I figured I would wait and see.

In the meantime I set up their softphone. It looked simple and cool. Only problem is, I tried it and I could hear the person I called but they couldn't hear me. Come to find out, it was my on-board sound card. The mic input wasn't working.

I sent a support request in and explained about the mic, and asked if they had any idea when my adapter would be shipped and why it was taking so long, and asked when my time 'started' for my 30 day money back guarantee.

They replied immediately (I was impressed) but their response was a scripted reply apologizing for the delay. Under the 'scripted' reply was a P.S. asking me to explain why I couldn't use my mic.

LOL I explained why in my first message.

I sent a reply back explaining again, and asked what they meant by the adapter could be delayed. I also asked them when my 'time' starts, from the day I sign up or the day I receive my adapter?

4 days later --- NO REPLY!
So, I send another 'follow-up' to my original support request. Believe it or not voip.com will not allow you to open a new ticket, if another is open. How ridiculous is that?
So, basically if they leave a ticket open you can not send a new support ticket in. If they fail to answer or close that ticket, you're SOL.

The next day I still get no response, so I call only to be on hold for about an hour.

I wait until later in the day and call again. FINALLY!
I get this girl on the phone, and she looks up my account, and says "Oh I see here you're having problems with your mic" LOL -- I explain everything to her. She replies with, "the adapters are in short supply and they are trying to get orders processed ASAP. I asked if she has any idea when that could be, She has NO IDEA. I ask, "Could it be days? weeks? months?" She says "she has no idea"

She then explains to me that I have softphone and I can use that. LOL - I explain again, MY MIC DOES NOT WORK!!!! and besides, that is not why I ordered VOIP. After going round and round with her for a few minutes, and she saying the same thing over and over, like a broken record, I tell her I want this taken care of ASAP or I will need to cancel.

She tells me that all the info she has and that there is no one else I can talk to. At that point, it's obvious to me that she is working out of her home

I get back online and send another follow-up to my 'original' support request that I made a week previous.

I explain my intention of canceling. Still no reply.

Okay, so they won't reply to my support request. I get back on their main web site and click Contact Us. I send an email, as a new customer would. NO RESPONSE

So, after waiting 2 weeks with no updates, no responses to my requests, and talking with a rep that didn't know what else to say, except "well you can still use softphone" I decided I had better cancel NOW.

I wish I had read others feed back here before I ordered. I probably would not have ordered, as I don't see many positive reviews on this company.

If you're thinking about signing up with voip.com, I suggest you RUN and do a little homework before signing up with any VOIP company

I don't know what their problem is but I will be damned if I will work with such an unprofessional company.

Oh one thing, make sure you read the companies terms and conditions over before agreeing to anything. I did notice on voip.com's terms, you can cancel within the first 30 days for a refund IF your phone usage is under 200 minutes. Also after the 30 day guarantee there is a $39.95 cancellation fee, not to mention the many, many other conditions---- BEWARE!

So now it's back to the drawing board
Maybe I will try magic jack until I figure out which voip company to go with. Heck it's only $20 a year and hear it's not bad for being in the beta stage. The only problem is, it plugs into a USB port, so if your computer resourses are jacked up I would assume it would create poor performance

SOOOOOOOOOOOO can anyone recomment a "GOOD" voip service at a reasonable price?

    Re: BEWARE: voip.com

I signed up the same date you did on 8/15/07. I called today and finally got a real person to talk to. She told me I will receive my ATA maybe on Friday (8/31/07). We'll just see.

I am a former Sunrocket customer. Ever since the company's shutdown, I have been reading up on looking for an alternative provider. It really is not easy. It was not until tonight that I found so many complaints on VOIP.COM and I am scared. Sunrocket at least provided me with great call quality and features on top of great tech support.

About your issue on extra time, I want to remind you that it was stated in their welcoming e-mail that:
"Your service starts when the router is shipped from our warehouse and not when the router is plugged in."

Good luck to both of us!

    Re: Bye Bye Voip

I read all this about VoIP.com and found that AT&T was not so bad. I have nothing but problems with this F%$#ed up company. Every since they changed equipment the service sucks. Now the call time is 1 to 2 hours to get tech support, this is really F%$#ed up. Why must companies mess with what is working. I really hate this and would go back to AT&T but, VoIP.com will not release my number. OH yes they are breaking the law and since I don’t have a lot of money to sue I am F%$#ed again. When will the little guy win in this world of fucked up companies and will Tech Support be a American and not some low life from a 3rd world. I HATE VoIP.Com

    VOIP.COM???

I too was a Sunrocket customer and was very happy with them right up until they went out of business. But even after they had shut the doors the service worked better than voip.com. I signed up in the middle of July and service has been pretty lousy. It took over a month to get my number ported over (Sunrocket did it in less than a week). When I go on their website they don't even have email support listed. They want you to call their number. I currently cannot call out or recieve calls, and the service has been spotty at best. I have been on hold for nearly an hour now and my estimated wait time is down to only 44 minutes. I am not impressed.

VOIP.com - the next Sun Rocket?

As I write this I have plenty of time on my hands because I am on hold, as I have been for the last three days (today being day 4)6 hours and 42 minutes and counting. I waited 23 days for my number to transfer. They stated it could be as long as 30 days. So when it finally transferred my outgoing calls worked but when someone dials my number it states that my number, "is not in service" nice. So it's now been 5 days with no number and it does not seem that anyone at VOIP.com has a clue what might be wrong. Here is the problem, please read closely if you are considering VOIP.com, I have 2 days left in my 30 day guarantee. I do not have phone service. I cannot get my 30 day guarantee without canceling. If I cancel I lose my phone number. If I get Vonage (for example) and I request they transfer my number, I now wait again for up to 30 days, with no service, pay both providers, and when my number finally transfers I can cancel VOIP.com and pay their fine for not canceling in the first 30 days. Yes there is a fine for canceling after 30 days, even if you are month to month. But they have my phone number now so I don't have allot of recourse. Nice, wish me luck.

3-WAY feature NEVER WORKED for VOIP.COM

After 2 months, now (9/13/07) I managed to reach their tech dept, after waiting 1.5 hrs on the phone!! And then I was told their 3-way feature will be up within 24-72 hrs, like they just found out about it!! IT NEVER WORKED IN THE FIRST PLACE!

This company sucks big time! I'd say run IF YOU'RE THINKING OF SIGNING UP. Unfortunately I have paid $199 for the year and was told if I cancel, I pay $39.95 cancellation fee deducted from 199 and then they pay back the remainder of the prorated fees.

    I cannot recommend

I was a very early adopter to VOIP and have been with several carriers through the years. VOIP.com has got to be the absolute worst call quality I've ever experienced. On top of that their service center is flooded with calls consistently and it's difficult if not impossible to get through. I'm moving to another carrier as soon as possible and am going to go ahead and even sacrifice the cancellation fee because the quality is so bad. There are better options out there if you look around.

    voip.com not worth the money

14 days to receive equipment. Analog Telephone Adapter (ATA) is a Grandstream HT286. Looks pretty cheap. Maybe this is causing many of the problems with the service.

Hours on hold to support. The customer has to be a computer guru to do many things suggested in their support area of the site.

I can make calls outbound, but none have ever arrived inbound since my number was ported from my previous carrier, Comcast.

I haven't canceled yet. Many users report fees, even when they cancel w/in the 30 day trial period.

I oredered on 8/24 and downloaded the soft phone to use until my adapter came. Well the soft phone worked and sounded like crap. My adapter showed up not in a professional box but I usps mail bag. Well it didn't work. Call them and they said some one would call me. Call them back after 24 hrs and wait. They answer the phone and place me on hold. I told them don't worry about fixing I will just cancel. I maybe used 10 minutes of time. My 1st venture into VOIP and it didn't go well.

I am a EX-Sunrocketer and needed to jump quick. They admitted to the large influx, But overall they did come thru. I could use the softphone within mins of signing up. it took 8 days for the ATA to arrive. setup was easy, worked right ut of the box. Porting took a bit longer. First two days I could not recieve calls as SR was getting them. After calling Tech support the worked on it and all is fine now. I think every VOIPprovider now will have some growing pains after the sudden downfall. But So far VOIP.COM had the best features I wanted plus softphone, int"l rates are cheap. Calls are going in and out gain on my old number. And When I had a tech on the line he did not lie, He said I am so sorry this is whats going on, This is what I can do. Just Right upfront. I can deal with that.
