Contract price not specified. Southwestern Bell "always on" "slow, sloopy support - almost as if the help was outsourced from overseas" "drop them and move on to a better supporting provider."

The best way to describe this company, PDQ, is to post the e-mail I sent them. This e-mail describes the on going events that occurred between myself and two DSL providers for the last two weeks. I will have you know that I have been a happy or so-so customer of PDQ.NET for about the last 10 years and have been a customer of COMPANY-X for 0 years. I will leave the 2nd DSL provider unknown, I feel that if I include the name here it will sound as if im promoting the company.
the letter...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PDQ Support,
Why are you guys so sloooow (both in customer service and dsl speed) Im trying my best to KEEP my current account with you you as my dsl provider.
I am trying to do a side-by-side comparison of services and speed provided by YOU and another dsl provider. It plays down to this....I have two phone lines I sign up with COMPANY-X here in town, im up and running at average 2400/500 in less than four days! Mind you, this is from no account, no hardware to up and surfing. Now get this, at the same time I call you guys. PDQ.NET INTERNET AMERICA. to upgrade my speed to 3,000. A week latter someone from Dallas calls back and say we cant do it because your too far from the CO box! I then have to explain to you guys that im already running at close to 3,000 with another provider, COMPANY-X, on my 2nd line. Then you guys say "let us look into how COMPANY-X is doing it...we will call you back." Hours later you guys call back and say "yea, we can do it there is some kind'a RT close to you..." I say to myself, yea I know why didnt you tell me this two years ago when the new RT was installed or just automatically provide me the services that I have NOT been receiving for the 59.00 plan.
Its now been TWO WEEKS since I asked for a upgrade from my current pokey 289/98 speed service that im been paying over $59.00 a month for the last 6 years...Its going on ONE WEEK since I told you that you CAN UPGRADE my current service to a faster speed!
im still waiting
joe mcdonald
-----------------------------------------------------
...end of letter
I will also add that after a week I called PDQ to find out the status. The support said they tried to call and yesterday and could not get in touch with me. That will be just one day lost on my part. Nevertheless, support said that they will start the upgrade the next day. When the next day arrived my dsl moden was down, blinking red. I then called that night to see what was going on. They said that there must be something wrong with the outside phone lines and will have to get in touch with SBC to come to your house and check it out.... Please, give me a break. Any way, the next day I call again. This is where thay say they cant provide the faster service because im to far away from the CO box. After I explain that they can, and they check it out (found a new closer RT) they proceed to process the paper work for the upgrade....that night my dsl modem was back on blinking green....I guess the SBC outside phone line fixed themselves.
...and im still waiting

Good support and very reliable. Every time I've lost my connection, the problem has been on my end. My speed with ADSL is running way over what they told me I would get. I am very happy with PDQ.NET Bob Kochman

Have never gotten decent connection speeds for this type of DSL (768k/384k). Connection reliability is OK as service may be down 1 day out of 30 (worst case). I had zero install hassles with the static IP.
Want to talk to an actual human being? Forget it! Emailing PDQ.net results in an automated response saying "your request has been forwarded..." but replies are few and far between. Try calling them? You'll either be "accidentally" hung up on by their "professional" staff or the automated phone system will disconnect you. When/If you do make contact with a support person, either their computers will be down (so they can't process your request) or they give the all-too-familiar "run-around".
Bottom Line: They were a good dial-up service provider, but cannot provide support necessary for DSL customers.

I am using pdq.net in Houston, TX for my iDSL line. This is not listed on the page currently, and the prices for $65 a month, and it was $249 install with a $219 rebate, for $30 after the rebate. I was given a flowpoint 144 router when I got the line installed. After the first couple of months and having some occasional outages(which were fingerpointed to Southwestern Bell by Covad) it has been great. I get constant 16.5-17K/s downloads from sites that have the bandwidth. I have been using the iDSL line now for 8 months, and its been great overall. It took about 2 weeks to get the line installed after I ordered it.

I moved to a new apartment in June. When selecting, I generated a list of candidate complexes, then sorted by distance from CO. I wound up moving to one 6000 feet from the CO, and this let me get T-1 down/384K up ADSL with static IP for $59/month. The order was almost painless; it took some juggling to get the static IP address assignment on the order, and that information didn't trickle down to the Covad installer. That was easily corrected, though. There was also a problem in the ATM configuration at Covad, but again, easily corrected.
The service has been pretty solid. At one point, I started experiencing dropouts, about once or twice a day at random times. They found an intermittent on the circuit about 600 feet from the CO; while that has been fixed, I still have the occasional dropout, now about once a week or so.
I've been quite impressed by PDQ's service. The guys that answer the phone don't bail immediately to "I'm sorry, that's not aupported" when I tell them I'm using a Linux firewall as my connection; they actually know what I mean, and support my setup pretty competently. I just wish there was a way to bypass the 2-minute message about how to find Windows XCV configuration on their web site before getting to a tech.
On the whole, I'm quite pleased. I'll stick with these guys.

My husband and I got a dial up connection from PDQ while we were waiting to find out if DSL was available around the end of August. We were not Southwestern Bell customers, but they took our DSL order anyway. We requested to be charged by the month for the dial-up since we were only waiting for DSL. There was a $160 charge on our account within a couple of days. A few days later, we got an emal from Covad stating that we couldn't get DSL without being a SWB customer. We called to cancel the DSL order. The accounting department cancelled our dial up connection.
We got a new dial up connection and changed back to SWB so we could get the DSL around 9/4/00. They placed our order and made the $300 withdrawl without sending us an invoice. We had to call the accounting department to request one.
3 weeks passed with no notice and no scheduled date for connection. We were prepared to wait 4-6 weeks for the service but not just to get a response. I called customer service on 9/23 and lo and behold, they were sending me an email that very day! The email stated that a SWB rep would come out within the next few days to install a new data line. On 9/26, we receive another email stating that our DSL service has been cancelled with no explanation. After getting the runaround, we get a tech person on the phone who says that we are out of range for the service. We previously had DSL service from SWB (funny how that works), but thats another horror story.
They took our money BEFORE finding out if we could get the service, when they decided that we couldn't, interestingly enough, they didn't refund that money as quickly as they took it. They have been evasive and rarely helpful. And to top it all off, they charged us $160 for our dial up service AND did not send us an invoice yet again.
I suggest you run if PDQ comes your way.
PDQ USED to be a good ISP before they became an Internet America company.

The information for setup was given July 20. Still waiting for installation (9/17). We constantly call our account manager, yet she doesn't return the calls left on her voicemail. I am actually a test case for the office as we were going to offer PDQ's DSL as a recommended office DSL carrier. PDQ would get at least 50+ users within a couple months, but this test case isn't working out.

Ordered Covad/PDQ DSL service on 5/31. SWBell was scheduled on 6/6, and Covad was scheduled between 12:00 and 5:00 on 6/12 to do their thing. Everything went as scheduled, though it was 4:45 when the Covad tech showed up. Everything was already setup as far as the house wiring, since the DSL was replacing a second phone line that I had SWBell disconnect for the DSL, so all he had to do was check the circuit and plug in the Speedstream 5260, up and running in 20 minutes. Suppose to be a dynamic IP, but have had the same one for a month. Only compaint is not with the DSL service but with information from PDQ regarding my account. After two days of being connected and blazing around the web, I realized that I had never received any information regarding my PDQ account name and password was for setting up email.

Ordered DSL online but PDQ sales still screwed up number portion of address. We pointed out minor error right away. Covad totally missed morning installation -- came at 5pm. PDQ "business" tech support unavailable when Covad tech needed them at 6pm. Static IPs did not work but next day DHCP was up for 3 hours. PDQ then *cancelled* the job to generate a new paperwork order # to correct address. Southwestern Bell cancels a perfectly working DSL line. PDQ Tech support only available 8:30a-5pm for 144K home service. No weekend or evening tech support for their "business" service. PDQ now saying 30-45 days wait again. (They think). If PDQ sales ever responded to me in under 4-5 days this would not have happened.
