This story is worth sharing. I live in the Sierra Nevada, way up the "hill" where dial tone even takes awhile to get here AT&T wouldn't even consider me for DSL, Comcast doesn't have broadband up here yet, I didn't want satelite and am surrounded by trees anyway, which is cool for everything except high tech. needs, and even the local "microwave network" providers couldn't provide me broadband, again trees and just out of range issues. I was back to dial-up and going nuts, it was AWFUL !! I finally found Motherlode Internet and just as importantly, Jennifer, my saviour-ess. It turns out they have a contract with ASI, a partner of sorts of AT&T and can provide DSL up to 1.5mbps to people like me with gobs of wire, I think their limit is 20,000 ft. They'll remove bridge taps, condition the line, or whatever it takes if their engineers say it will work. At least Jennifer will !! This woman is GOD-like, she got me DSL when dial tone even needs a passport to get here. I'm set at the office at 768kbps with AT&T where DSL origintes and according to the DSL Reports speed test I have a download speed of 408kbps and an upload speed of 320kbps. Not bad for my location !! Here's a few pointers though you'll need to deal with if you use Mothewrlode Internet and are way the hell out there. First make sure you get the correct DNS to put into your router, talk to Isaac at tech for that. Second, if you do need bridge taps removed it takes a few phone calls with Motherlode Internet and be patient while they arrange it with ASI as that's what it takes to get an AT&T guy out in the field to do it. It takes some phone calls, some begging, and some follow through to get DSL in a location like this but it's doable and Jennifer, this GOD-like creature and Motherlode Internet is your best shot...Good luck !!!!!!!!!!
