Everything is working well. However i do wish i had gone with the 1Gb option as the 2Gb plan is a bit overkill for my use case. The 2Gb plan would be perfect for a family of gamers with more than one person downloading a game at a time. Or someone that streams or uploads videos all the time. The 2Gb plan isn't really for a single user like myself. But downloading steam games did use all the bandwidth. The install process was free. And took about 3 hours or so for my address. Because a fiber line had to be ran about 400 meters down the road or about 4 poles away. The tech was very friendly and seemed to enjoy his job. He removed the old coax cable they are no longer using. And installed the new fiber in the same area. And ran conduit into the house to protect the delicate fiber line. "which is something my old fiber provider didn't do." And hung a new fiber ONT next to my breaker panel. Which is next to my network rack. He then powered it on and tested it. And had me connect it to my custom network setup. And asked me a few questions to make sure it was working at full speed with my equipment. And after confirming it was working correctly. He had me sign some paperwork. The entire process went really well. The only issues during the install process were caused by lack of equipment. They sent out a bucket truck without any ladders. And my address doesn't have bucket truck access. So a ladder truck had to be called in. And they didn't bring a 400 meter fiber cable with them. As they don't normally carry such a long fiber run. So they had to go get a longer fiber cable to do the install. However it wasn't a big deal my address was just a little more challenging than most. member for 9.6 years, 1393 visits, last login: a few hours ago updated 150 days ago

I use the PTD Cable Internet service for our family use. We utilize most of our entertainment using Netfilx Instant Watch, HULU and Amazon On Demand. This Service can handle multiple Users acessing the High Def format of TV/Movie viewing online without a hitch. There was no DSL Service in my area capable of doing this. I tried them all and this Cable Service is the only one that allowed High Def streaming consistantly. member for 15.2 years, 309 visits, last login: 5.8 years ago updated 12.4 years ago
PenTeleData / Pro-log offer three tiers (1 meg, 10 megs, 30 megs) of broadband with the 30megs being quite pricey ,but I am sure well worth the asking price . PenTeleData /Prolog uses Motorola cable modems to provide their service. The only thing that I found that I didn't like about this internet provider is that they don't provide port 443 (S.S.L.) when using a email client. I was told most that their cable broadband ( which Service Electric cable Television uses) utilizes fiber cable up on the telephone poles with coaxial being used on the drop downs to the access points. This would explain the high reliability in their service even during very bad weather conditions. member for 19.8 years, 898 visits, last login: 6.4 years ago updated 13.1 years ago
I have had Penteledata from Blue Ridge in PA for about 3 years now. During that time I have had to call them many times (i have the number memorized and don't even have to listen to the number options). The customer service is the most stressful part of the deal. They seem to have no idea what they are talking about and can only suggest i restart my computer. Even the techs don't seem to be trained very well. I am currently going to be canceling my plan within the next few weeks because my problem of connection time outs and dial up speeds have gotten the best of me. The techs can't seem to figure it out and the customer service reps don't want to really deal with me. I must suggest to others to consider another ISP if you can get a better deal. member for 15.3 years, driveby review (so far) lodged 15.3 years ago
Well lets start off with the back story. I got a promotion at work that required me to work from the corporate headquarters... an 84 mile round trip from where I was living. With the cost of gas and the 10 hours a week of my life it was taking away I decided to relocate. If you've ever visited the north central part of Pennsylvania - you'll no doubt agree with me that it is beautiful... but populated it isn't! Welcome to Mayberry - er, Wellsboro, PA that is. Population ~4000, also the county seat of Tioga County (just to give you an idea of how populated the rest of the county is). Colonial gas lamps line the center of the main streets, well manicured lawns everywhere you look, Main Street is full of little shops and restaurants. That's all fine and well - but what is the broadband going to be like here!?!?! To my surprise - it's pretty damn good. Much faster service than I was getting with my Verizon DSL service 42 miles to the south. I ordered the service in February 2008 - it's now May and I think that has given me enough time to fully test the services. My cable company is Blue Ridge Communications, the ISP that runs the show is PenTeleData. I remember back in the early days of the internet, PTD was quite a powerful local ISP, with some services that were to be envied. PTD seems to have a pretty solid backbone, with multiple peerings in NY, NJ & MD. Ping times across the board are very low. I subscribe to the 10/800 tier (G10 they call it) and consistently hit my cap. We had a couple of bad ice storms since I've moved here, and all the while I was happily downloading at top speed along with everyone else in the area since nobody could go anywhere. When the service was first installed, they furnished me with a Webstar modem - it was very flaky and often needed rebooted- within a few days I purchased a Motorola 5120 and haven't had a single problem since. I have heard of a few people having their service suspended or terminated because of high usage... I'm a heavy user and have yet to receive a letter or phone call. They do provide a tool that tells you how much data you have consumed in a given month and it seems fairly accurate when compared with the monitoring software I use on my PC. All in all, I'm pretty happy with my new service. That can quickly change though if the service drops below unacceptable levels. I'll be sure to update my review. member for 23.1 years, 8578 visits, last login: 4 days ago lodged 15.8 years ago |
