I got a new Grandstream HT502 adapter plugged it in behind my Linksys WRT54G router and could make and receive calls, no adjustments needed. They initiated porting my number from Voicepulse right away, but it still took three weeks to complete. This seems typical for voip to voip ports. Voipo gives you a temporary number to use while you are waiting for your number to port in. I was able to forward calls from my old provider to this temp number and set my Voipo outgoing caller id to show my old number. This allowed me to disconnect my old equipment and start using Voipo right away while I waited for the port to complete. I ended up keeping the temp number Voipo assigned to me and set it up through the website as line two on the Grandstream adapter. I then pointed my Google voice number at it and set it's outgoing caller id to my GV number. Now I don't have to use another adapter + gizmo5 etc to use google voice from my desk. I was also able to use the sip credentials + Acrobits on an iphone and will be able to make and receive calls as if on my home phone using wifi connections when traveling. member for 19.2 years, 575 visits, last login: 10.9 years ago updated 13 years ago
This is my fifth Voip provider and so far I would consider it's best choice for me. It pretty much tops all of my previous Voip providers in every aspect except some international rates. I'm using Google Voice for international calls so it does not really matters for me personally but might matter if you plan to use Voipo directly. Some unique features which I find highly usable 1. 60 minutes of free international calls to select destinations 2. Cloned second line (you can have 2 incoming or outgoing calls at the same time) 3. Free outgoing faxing through website member for 19.3 years, 1520 visits, last login: 1.1 years ago lodged 13.1 years ago
I couldn't be happier with VOIPo. I've been using them for a couple years, with no complaints. It has been super reliable and no setup hassles. And backed by a strong company (HostGator) that I feel confident paying one or two years in advance for cheaper rates too. I was hesitant after being burned by SunRocket years ago. Keep up the great job, VOIPo, and you'll have lots of long term customers and a growing customer base. Thanks! member for 16.9 years, 736 visits, last login: 7 days ago updated 13.2 years ago
---2010 Year End Review--- I have had no problems with my service. The call quality has been great. I am using a LinksysPAP2 with both jacks used, one jack to the whole house, and one to a cordless phone. I have been able to use eyeBeam soft phone on my laptop with no problems. I have even been able to make calls during my overseas vacations in the Caribbean. Support and Billing have always been responsive when I had a question or problem. Thanks for another great year. ***UPDATE*** The service just keeps going and going... The service is wonderful, call quality is great, and the features just keep coming. VOIPo keeps adding new features. New perks include 60 free minutes of international calling to selected locations, feature control by SMS, simultaneous ring, distinctive ring tones, and more. I would also like to mention I used the service in Roatan, Honduras, and Curacao, NA with great success. I only made calls to numbers back in the US but quality was great. I was even able to send video at the same time using a X-Lite soft-phone installed on my laptop. Call quality was good at the airport in Houston, TX via the wireless internet connection. I have never had a problem when traveling with my laptop and using a soft-phone. I totally recommend VOIPo for ease of service, quality, and price. With the 30 day money back guarantee you have nothing to loose. ***ORIGINAL POST BELOW*** I found out about VOIPo by chance, and am so happy with the service. I entered service near the end of Beta testing and before signup I was skeptical of the quality or reliability due to the company being so new. However, knowing the associations VOIPo has with a major US internet web hosting company I decided to try VOIPo. I received my adapter (Grandstream 502) in no time, had it plugged into my network, and was up and running instantly. The quality was spot on, price was right, and the calling features were included. Being a “plain old telephone” customer switching to VOIP I have found the following: • True “plug and play” - little to no modifications on my end • Voice quality is GREAT with no lag or echo. • User supported telemarketer block and the ability to white or black list incoming numbers has been a true blessing. • Voice mail will send an email alert with the ability view and listen to messages online in vPanel • 911 setup was a breeze • Customer support responds within hours of submitting ticket • vPanel web interface is smooth and clean – one stop shop for all preferences. I have taken my adapter to friend’s houses and on vacation and had no problem plugging in. Instant joy. I have only had two problems that required me to contact support for help. 1. I could not receive or call to a specific cell phone – support modified a few settings on the back end in less than an hour, called me to let me know it was fixed. 2. Voice mail light problem – I think that was system wide due to VOIPo switching to the new voice mail system. No problems now. I have been so pleased with my service I added two more lines to my account, and I am going to say goodbye Ma Bell. member for 15.3 years, 1350 visits, last login: 5.2 years ago updated 13.2 years ago
Update 12-28-10 We have been on the Central server for a few weeks and the service has been solid. I'm starting to think the East server does not work well with my ISP. I have updated my ratings accordingly. I will update in a few more weeks. Update 11-30-10 Service works for a couple weeks, then dropped calls, no dialtone 3 times in a week(required ATA reboot). Support updates my "provisioning" and it works for a short time, then problems crop up again. The SAF is about zero right now, so I'm being forced to a more expensive alternative. VOIPo, I love the features, flexibility and price, but even with a cell phone as a backup, it's not worth the aggravation anymore. Update 5-5-10 Well, after about 2 months of intermittent problems since getting a replacement ATA (Grandstream HT-502), I am looking at alternatives. While the service is about 90% reliable, we continue to have problems with incoming calls at least 2 or 3 times a week. We get a fast busy after answering, or no ring at all. Support has tried to pinpoint, but even with the ATA connected directly to the cable modem, we see occasional issues. Update 12/24/09 Things have smoothed out great. I have bumped the Reliability and Call Quality to 5. The website is still a 4 since there is no real help, other than a FAQ. It turns out my incoming call issues were caused by a switch between the modem and ATA. If the reliability continues, I'll be signing up for the yearly plan to save even more. Signed up on 10/12 before moving into a new area code. We wanted to keep our existing 10-year old number and VOIP was the only option. Tried Vonage in the past with mixed results, and have used cable phone service since 2005. Our first couple weeks were bumpy... dropped calls, voice breakups, but support moved me to their other server and it was solid. Number port took almost 2 months, but I was glad to get the number back even after I had canceled my previous service back in November. member for 21.9 years, 7687 visits, last login: 1 day ago updated 13.2 years ago
Ok heres the bottom line. Im a business owner who paid more than $1800 a year for land lines through Qwest. I paired up with Clearwire highspeed, and VoipO. I did have issues with VoipO service not due to them but because I live In Oregon and the massive rain interferred with ClearWire signal. The VoiPo Control panel is'nt the easiest at first because the new lingo involved. Never be afraid to give them a call for support. They're pretty darn smart. After all they Pump your phones through the SAME DARN SYSTEM LAND LINES USE. for 90% less. Thats smart! very smart. Further more My customers are happy with my VoiPo Services and Frankly That Makes Me My Money. Now I am happy. In My pocket book. Signed up with Voipo on 9/28 and sent in authorization to have my number ported from Comcast the same day. Received the adapter in a few days. Comcast finally ported my number over on 10/15. Glad to be rid of them. And when I did the setup I was having a problem with getting a fast busy signal whenever I tried to place a call. Very helpful tech support guy promptly fix the problem. Today (10/18) I've been experiencing multiple problems. 1. I get no incoming caller ID. Phone just shows "Incoming Call" 2. When I answer an incoming call I get a dead line. The people who've called say their call went directly to voicemail. Even though I answered. 3. My outgoing calls are showing up on caller ID with a virtual number I was issued from Voipo and not my ported number. If I can these kinks worked out it will probably be worth the switch. I'll return in a day or two to update my review and adjust my ratings. 10/19/09 Spoke with the guys in tech support and was able to fixed everything with a bit of port forwarding and a few adjustments on their end. Needless to say I'm quite satisfied with the care and concern. Thanks Guys!!! 10/22/09 Couldn't ask for better service. Everything is functioning as advertised. I can tell no difference in call clarity between old Comcast voip service and Voipo. The only real difference is that I now have a multitude of user options available to me versus hardly anything useful from Comcast outside of the basics. And of course at a fraction of the cost. My annual bill including junk fees from Comcast was about $330. And that was for their basic service without any long distance included. I'll make a final review in two weeks. 10/16/10 (Final review) Well I decided to cancel Voipo after my first year. In fairness I have to say that everything worked pretty good once the kinks were worked out. But I never had totally reliable service as far as the connection was concerned. I still had occasional times when I'd answer the phone only to get a busy signal. And of course any time the power went out I had to reboot the device. But I had to do that with my modem and router too. I actually would have stayed if I could have paid the same price. But I missed a promotion to stay at the same price and would have had to pay $50 more. Albeit the promotion wasn't promoted directly to me since I never knew about it until it had ended. But even at $185 per year it still was a good deal. But my mobile plan averages 6 to 8 thousand rollover minutes each month, so it was even cheaper just to use my cell phone for all calls. And it has worked out great. I think in the very near future that even voip lines are going to be abandoned in favor of mobile devices the same way that regular landlines have lost consumers. But it was an interesting and I don't regret spending just one year with Voipo. member for 24 years, 608 visits, last login: 12.6 years ago updated 13.4 years ago
VoipO replaced CallVantage in this household five months ago. I have not experienced any downtime with this service. Voice quality is excellent, even on my sometimes marginal Cox cable connection. The service is routed through a Linksys WRTG54L router running Tomato RAF with QOS enabled. QOS is superfluous except at those times when the cable service is balky. Tech support is responsive and has excellent web ticket system. In my case, a faulty ATA (RJ45 socket would not latch connector) was replaced promptly. In a second case, the customer (me) had included an invalid character in my caller display (an ampersand) that would disable some features on the ATA. Tech support stayed with the problem until they identified it and immediately changed the web management console to eliminate customers' ability to make this particular screw-up. I was impressed. These minor matters were all resolved in the first month. Since then, zero issues. The web site is spare with little documentation. Features are managed via a simple tree menu. Customers have access to an active company-sponsored forum with a mother-lode of good technical information, some of which comes directly from the company founder. CallVantage allowed multiple phones to simul-ring or ring in a cascading sequence. VoipO allows only one phone to be simul-ring and does not have the option to require the user to press a key to pick up the call. CallVantage had more extensive do-not-disturb features. None of these was worth three times the monthly cost. [UPDATE 22 Aug 2009: Forum URL is »forums.voipo.com/] UPDATE 12 Jan 2009: VoipO continues to work near perfectly. Customer support is prompt and they really respect the users' level of technical knowledge. No scripts here! They even know their way around Tomato firmware. It's not that I've needed much in the way of support. One group of called numbers was not routing (returning fast busy). They had that solved in a half-hour or so, and you can see exactly what and who is working the problem via the ticket system. (FWIW the incident involving Tomato turned out to be a problem with cable modem). UPDATE 15 Oct 2010: First off, this update comes as the result of a truly funny forum IM message from Voipo encouraging this update, so funny that my non-technical wife nearly sprayed my screen with coffee when she came upon it. Well played, sirs. She makes the case better than I can: she dials out on our 80's vintage POTS equipment, and more recently on her HTC Liberty/Aria via Sipdroid and our household WiFi, with no idea that her "landline" calls are going via VOIP as well as those originating from her "cell phone". I have a friend in Atlanta who signed up for VoipO at my recommendation, and four months in she's satisfied with her service. member for 21.2 years, 2829 visits, last login: 70 days ago updated 13.4 years ago
Voipo has a tremendous feature set and an excellent price point. I had a few "bumps in the road" and their Support team was the best I've seen in years. Voipo really has some cool features and is a rock solid company! Bob Akron (review was emailed from domain OhioTimeCorp.com) lodged 13.5 years ago |
