    My Other Reviews·Vonage
    ·RoadRunner Cable
I signed up for VOIPo after Vonage, in their infinite wisdom decided to raise their rates on the 500/minute a month plan.

I was somewhat hesitant at first until I read the reviews about the company and all the features it offered in comparison to Vonage.

After ordering I requested my number be ported. I received my adapter about 6 days later. I installed it but soon realized that it was not going to very useful until my number was ported. I could assign a temporary number but none were available in my area code. Therefore I decided to just leave it offline until after my number had been ported.

After about a week I opened a ticked to inquire about he port status. I was told that they never received the fax to port the number so I faxed the request again. Another two weeks went by and my number was still not ported. I opened another ticket and was told it would be another 2 weeks (5 weeks total to port from original request).

I was somewhat upset that I had been paying for a service but not using it due to the length of time it took to port the number. Customer service decided to extend my renew date by about a month to compensate for the time taken to port the number.

My number was ported and I was receiving calls but the voice mail feature was not fully functional. After another ticket the issue was resolved and all is running well now.

    To sum up my experience:

VOIPo has excellent customer service. Most of my requests/tickets were responded to within hours. The responses were not the same canned messages you get from other companies. They actually fixed the issues or told me what was going on.

I cannot stress enough how good their customer service is.

Their call quality is excellent and the feature set is much more robust than vonage. I love being able to setup call routes to block annoying robot callers I receive every so often.

My one mark against them is the account setup and porting needs to be a lot smoother for this company to grow. I believe with time they will iron this out and regardless of those issues the change was still worth it.

    ·ViaTalk
I have been in beta with VOIPo for over a year now and I have to say I have had less downtime with them than any other service I have had. Power, cable, internet, Viatalk, and water are probably down more than VOIPo ever is every year.

I used to have Viatalk and it would go down randomly and be choppy and have inconsistent performance. I stayed with them for 2 years and kept thinking it was our connection that was bad. I was VERY wrong... Once I got VOIPo, all calls went through and there were never any problems at all. Call quality was excellent from day 1 and their alpha/beta service is better than Viatalk and Sunrocket when we had them also in their production stages!!

VOIPo has taken over 2 years to finalize their product and work out all the bugs to make a very stable Voip platform that will run very smoothly when new customers start coming in. I HIGHLY recommend them to anyone when they launch here in the August/September range. They are going to have some launch specials also so stay tuned!!

    UPDATE 1-25-2009

Well, we have had VOIPo for over 2 years now and it has been AMAZING compared to Sunrocket and Viatalk when we had them. Support has been excellent and the call quality is still great as it has always been. We have never had any noticeable outage yet in over 2 years and everything works great.

I still Highly Recommend VOIPo to anyone looking for a great, stable company with great features and support. Their CEO, Tim, is also excellent and will take care of any issues you have at anytime. Awesome!!!

BEWARE OF VOIPo ... I read all the good reviews so I signed up in early December. I expected to receive equipment after paying $164.00 for year 1 and sending in my porting request. 2 weeks passed and they said sorry can't port your number (which I had ported to Vonage from Verizon years ago). O.K. refund please ! Then the long silence began............ I hate disputing transactions on my credit card. Now VOIPo keeps saying to return equipment, I keep saying" I didn't recieve it , give me a tracking number". Their response," return equipment " Good customer service ? These guys don't read their mail ! It's like talking to a wall . BEWARE..If I didn't know of DSL reports high standards I'd suspect VOIPo had some cheaky monkey locked in their basement typing out all those positive reviews ! Thought I had escaped but, guess it"s another month of "International customer service abuse" ( May I call you by your first name ?) courtesy of Vonage for me.

    Porting is a mess

It's not surprising that you ran into problems with the porting. My number, originally Verizon, was ported to a CLEC, then I wanted to port it to CallVantage, but had to port it back to Verizon for a month, then to CV. Later I ported it to VoicePulse and was told by CV that they could not port it back from VP. Strange rules, complicated mess.
Did you get your equipment from VOIPo? A temporary number to try out the service? Seems that VOIPo should have a search tool on their website to determine if a given number can be ported before signing up.

    Re: Porting is a mess

I've looked into this more and see what happened. You are correct...this is a problem on our end.

It looks like that a porting rep had e-mailed you on 12/22 about the port being denied to see if you wanted to cancel or get a new number and there was some dialog between the two of you back and forth in that e-mail.

Since he sent this from his VOIPo e-mail account and not by ticket, it was not tracked. Company policy is to only use tickets and not to be e-mailing directly since no one else can see e-mails from their individual e-mail accounts.

I see in that e-mail you did ask to cancel several times but were continuously asked about returning the device. The rep should have immediately explained the cancellation process.

So a few things happened here:

    1) Our employee used e-mail directly with you which was not visible in helpdesk to other employees.

    2) Company policy in relation to processing cancellations only via helpdesk e-mail/ticket was not followed so a cancellation request was never actually documented.

As I said, we've issued a refund and since based on the e-mail history I just reviewed we definitely dropped the ball in not communicating well with you, I'm going to send you a check for $25 to cover a month of service at an alternative provider.

In terms of porting, there will always be some cases where numbers just can't be ported depending on the providers involved. Some won't release numbers (even though the FCC says they have to) and sometimes there are other issues like a lack of E911 coverage, etc.

I apologize for this and will definitely be addressing it internally to make sure everyone is following policy.

Ultimately no company will ever be perfect as long as people and computers are involved. We can't control that, but we can control how we react to issues we do have and try to limit those situations as much as possible.

I agree Tim you did a great job of handling this customer. Yahig's comments about beware are little far out there. Everyone makes mistakes. Every company makes mistakes.

It is sad Yahig has not bothered to come back and update his review. He was obviously upset and wanted to draw as much attention to his post as possible. His suggesting that the reviews of the service are bogus is unjustified and it does not take much work to figure out the people who have posted the reviews are not new to this web site.

Proof Positive (or is it Negative?)

Although I am distressed (mildly) by yahig's review and low ratings for VOIPo, there are positive points to be made from his/her comments.

This legitimate post, reporting the reviewer's negative personal experience, proves that no company / business / provider is perfect. In this situation we have a rapid response by Tim admitting to and taking responsibility for the problem. But more significantly, we now have a balance -- to be more precise, an imbalance -- of 35 very positive reviews now offset by one very negative review. This is sobering ... giving a bit more credence (just a bit) to the /gbu review system.

Consider this: Wouldn't it be nice if VoIP providers (and other service providers) offered an ombudsman ... an individual on the company payroll who is charged with taking the customer's side. Tim (VOIPo), Brendan (VT), Bruce (ex-VS), Nitzan (F9) and Joseph (TB) have been serving as ombudsmen for their respective companies ... but this only benefits those who are smart enough (or lucky enough) to find and use the BBR Forums.

I envisage a Customer Service experience where --- after getting nowhere with an uninformed Level 1 CSR and becoming frustrated after elevation to a Billing or Technical person ... all company reps are instructed to switch the call to ... or provide a specific email address for ... an ombudsman / ombudswoman. (Would ombudsperson be an appropriate term?) This individual would be specially trained ... not in solving the specific problem ... but in taking up the customer's "fight" and making it "right" ... rather than spouting the company line ("Restart your adapter." "It's your ISP." "It's your fault".

I have been with VoiPO since December 1, 2008. So far the service has been exceptional for me. After placing my order online, I received my ATA in roughly 5 days later. The package was mailed US Priority mail. I opened the package envelope and inside were: VoiPo Quick Reference Guide, Setting Up Your VoiPo Device, Important E911 Information, and or course the Grandstream ATA with power adapter, and telephone cord. The first thing I did was review the setup instructions, and made a decision right then to install my ATA behind my D-Link router (not in front). Installation went smoothly for me with no issues whatsoever. It should be noted that I did setup my ATA for static IP addressing, and this was no issue either. In about 5 minutes I was making and receiving telephone calls. I signed in to my Control Panel and this went smoothly as well. I setup call filters on both outgoing and incoming calls, and this worked smoothly as well. The voice quality on my Comcast cable connection is outstanding-- no echo and folks do not even know I am calling from a voip connection either!! One another note support is second to none both over the telephone, trouble tickets submitted online, and getting assistance on DSLReports.com website. I can honestly say that VoiPO is a company that truly values our thoughts and impressions. Other companies should take note to VoiPO's business model

The companies name is correctly VOIPo.

    My disclosures:

This is a review of a service currently in pre-launch status.

I am biased, I participated in the alpha and beta cycles of development with this company for well over a year. Please see my periodic updates I post at the end of my evaluation.

    The evaluation.

VOIPo has been built as a company according to the vision of owner Timothy Dick. The company has been committed to developing a high quality, stable and reliable service for customers. At one point, he discovered that his development team had failed to follow his vision of quality; I watched as he replaced the whole team with other professionals in the field, and basically started development over. With this new team, he has produced what I find to be an extremely secure and reliable VoIP service, coupled with features easily controlled from within the users 'vPanel.' BEWARE, controlling available features from this simple and straight-forward interface can become almost addictive! Call quality has been exceptional throughout development, partially attributable to concentrating on US service. Downtime I've noticed to date has amounted to perhaps two hours, primarily during announced hardware/software upgrades and modifications. At this time, VOIPo services will appeal primarily to the residential customer who just wants to plug it in, have the phone work, and have all the bells and whistles too.

The primary offering is a Residential plan, designed for customers in the U.S.A. It is intended to use a simple and reliable standard GrandStream analogue phone adapter, that was chosen for the ease of VOIPo remote diagnostics and maintenance. There is also an allowance for a softphone to be used when traveling. Customers use the “vPanel” to setup and control their account in real time. Failover, Call Waiting, 3 Way Calling, Caller ID with Name, Call Waiting ID, Anonymous Call Rejection, Caller ID Block, Call Return, Call Forwarding, and Voice mail are standard included features. The voice mail feature is on of the slickest I've seen. There is an ability to notify one or more email accounts of receipt of a voice mail including the Caller ID (CID), size and date and time of the message. You may elect to include a .WAV file of the message on an account basis. You may also elect to send an SMS with just the CID, size and date/time information (i.e. To your cell phone). An elaborate contacts management system is fully integrated into the other features like Custom Caller ID, Call Routing, Click to Call, Do Not Disturb and much more. You may associate unlimited phone numbers with the contact and also assign n your contacts to groups like family, friends, enemies, work ,etc. Once a contact is added, you may assign a nickname or 'custom CID name' that will be used to override the default network provided Caller ID name. Having your CID display “Dad” instead of a generic “PA Cell Phone” makes life a lot easier. You may also like the neat click-to-call feature within the contacts system. User selectable Custom call routing criteria (including wildcards!) allows unlimited manipulation of inbound calls to reach your phones, get a busy signal or a disconnected message, or be forward to another number or straight to voice mail. You can setup unlimited routing options and manage them all in real-time from the user console. Similarly, you may route outbound calls! You can create your own 'speed dial' features for example, by routing outbound '111' to your tennis partner's phone if you like. If you disapprove of your minor son calling the local escort service, just send that number to a busy signal, or better yet to your cell phone for confession time. Only your imagination can limit how outgoing calls from your phone are handled!. VOIPo supports dialing 7, 10, or 11 digits for ease of use. The entire system is designed support using SIP addresses for both inbound calls and as destinations. A user may also elect participation in a 'Community Powered Telemarketing Block' program, or to block all international calls. Users can easily add residential virtual local numbers from rate centers throughout the country, or even virtual toll free numbers.

    July 15, 2008

I'm now a _paying_ customer... because of the confidence I have in VOIPo's products. So, I put my $ where I've talked about!

    October 20, 2008

I must now admit to being a VOIPo addict. I now have two dedicated residential accounts as well as 7 DIDs pointed to pbx servers (1 toll-free number, 1 toll-free fax number and 5 low-volume 'local' DIDs for family members.) When I need something for lower 'residential' volume inbound traffic set up fast, I find myself at the VOIPo login. A few seconds later the new service is live.

VOIPo does limit itself at present to providing standard residential volume products, primarily intended for single household use. So, I also must confess to happily using several other providers for my higher volume out-bound termination from the asterisk-based systems where I need greater flexibility and control. Nothing bad against VOIPo, it's just their choice for a sound and stable business model (darn it).

20090109 - Developing into a solid, long-term national provider in the large scale category. Constantly looking to add features to an already solid line-up of services. Extremely responsive! Look for VOIPo to be around for a long time!

    My Other Reviews·BroadVoice
I quit broadvoice due to their caller id not picking up names of neighbor's calls. Also I was pissed at their big company attitude with the charges and lackluster customer service.

VOIPO has been great to me so far. They gave me a modem that has a cloned line, meaning I can make a call while someone else is on the phone. I did not expect this.

Their customer service helped me a lot with the questions I had before signing up.

I had an issue with inbound calls going straight to voicemail on the day it was ported from BV. The ticket was responded to quickly and problem fixed, they even gave me an extra month of free service for this inconvenience. I doubt broadvoice would do that, heck they even didn't give me back an automatic pro rate yet (I am asking for it now) for paying for January, but using only 4 days!

Also, they were quick to fix an issue on the website not showing my voicemail and device list.

I hope they stay like this. It seems like they have great customer support by treating their employees well.

    1/02/09 UPDATE:

Service is still rock solid - passing the wife-o-meter for call quality. Only issue that we have is that with the specific Panasonic cordless phone system at home we are unable to "click/flash" over to call waiting.

This is a service that I have recommended to family to replace their current POTS lines if they are looking to make a change.

    11/14/08 UPDATE:

I am on a 1.5M/896k DSL line with interleave turned on and call quality has been great. There has only been a few times over the last month that either my wife or myself could tell any difference from a traditional POTS line.

Ported over my landline home phone number and still could not be happier with the service. While there are a few kinks that they are still working out of there system support has been spot on with any requests that have come up.

If you want to do some tinkering this is not the provider for you, but if you do not have the time or want to mess around with anything and want a set it and forget provider this is the way to go. This is the perfect solution for someone who is looking for a true plug and play VoIP provider.

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------

After spending a few weeks reading up on the different providers out there I decided on VoIPo. I have been forwarding landline number into a new DID with VoIPo the last week or so and service has been rock solid. I will be porting landline number over in the next week or so - will update after that is complete on the process, although if it is like anything else so far will be easy.

From the initial contact with them through installation and after they have been quick and easy to work with. At this time I would have no problem recommending them to someone in the market for new VoIP service.

I signed up for the one year promo after reading all the good reviews. A lot of long time users with a lot of VOIP experience led me to sign up. The promo deal was too go to pass up. After signing up I had several tickets in to get some questions answered and a couple minor issues fixed. Support is the best I have seen! Tickets get an intelligent answer within several hours, sooner if they are a higher priority. So far the call quality is excellent. I have been with several companies and so far I love what I see. Very responsive. The wife made several calls and asked if we got a land line or what I did to improve the quality! Can't wait to report back in several months. Time will tell but right now, the responsiveness of the technical support\billing department eased my mind into getting service for a company I did not even knew existed a couple months ago. I did try to sign up as a beta tester a while back but got the email that they were going public. Glad I signed up for the email! looking forward to actually using my phone! The efax features, 800 service and extra addons I can use in the future will be great.

I recently ordered Voipo for a second phone line (I use POTS for the first line due to Alarm System, Wife......). The first time I tried to order the service, the web site crashed (growing pains?). After about 20 minutes, the system was up and running again and I ordered the service. After 3 days I received the Grandstream ATA adapter they provided, plugged it in and it didn't register with their server. I opened a ticket and surprisingly got a response within 5 hours - which is surprising because it was a Saturday and their support is only M-F. They recreated my account and the service started working. I then noticed that my inbound calls were not getting through. I logged another support call and again got a response on the weekend - stating that my number was having issues and they logged a ticket with L3. They immediately provided me a FREE virtual number to allow others to call me in the mean time while the number wasn't working. It was resolved within 3 hours although support never told me it was fixed (I was just glad it was fixed). They also gave me an extra month service for all of my troubles (another very cool move). Since the problems have been fixed, I have had flawless service. Also, since they fixed the problems so quickly, I give them an A+ in support. They are definitely worth checking out.

One cool feature is the roaming E911. I ordered my number to be closer to my parents-in-laws in a different state, but thanks to roaming E911 I still have my address as the place where emergency calls gets routed. Very Cool !!!

    A suggestion.

Consider this ... since you obtained a distant DID# to make it a local call for your in-laws (but a long distance call for friends and family in your own home town) ... check out the list of available numbers in Vienna VA (SunRocket's and your home town) on the VOIPo website ... add a nice Vienna number to your account as a Virtual Number (the first virtual number is free) ... then ask VOIPo to switch the main number with this new virtual number.

With this arrangement, your parents can still reach you for free by dialing your virtual number (your original DID) in their rate center ... and your new Vienna VOIPo number would allow your nearby Virginia friends and family to call a local VA DID to reach you ... plus your outgoing calls are now showing a Vienna VA Caller ID (CID).

    Just a thought.

Review to come as soon as equipment arrives, but i will give the reason of why i switched.

VoipYour Life is a amazing voip provider with lots of nice people but they lacked some features i have been wanting( Like Telemarketing Blocks, custom caller id, Advanced Call Routing, etc.) No company really had all of these until Voipo came along. So im going to try it for a week and if alls good then ill keep it. Only problem so far was the misleading $99 dollar for a year offer (really $165 after activation fees and E911 Service) I only hope that after the years over the price will stay below 22.99. (Vonage 24.99, VoipYourLife 23.99 so a dollar off that will be progress)
