Limited Service on Military Posts/Not full speed.

Value for money:

Cable Modem Services provided by LG Dacom. I live on a Military post and the cable system is operated and owned by MWR Cable (Military). Because of that the maximum speed that can be provided on-post is 10/1 for $60 for unlimited use. The residential homes (just across the street) are getting FTTH 100 Mbps for about $50 a month. When i acquired about why we cant get higher speeds this is what i was told:

1. The US Govt believes that the speeds already offered (10/1 Mbps) are fast enough and that there is no need for more bandwidth.

and

2. Because the cable system is so old and outdated (premium channels are still analog scrambled) it would be impossible to provide higher bandwidth services. (Korea Wide)

Overall this is the best we can get and cant complain about it to much. Latency/Ping to the US is not bad. I play World of Warcraft and my ping to the West Coast server (Frostmourne Oceanic) avereges arround 300-400. Worth the money but i am still a little jealous for not getting the FTTH that is so close but far away .

even worse in rural UK

this is my dad's speedtest in Lancashire UK »www.speedtest.net/result ··· 5736.png
0.13 meg up, - .37 meg down.
terrible sign of the times and shows the extent of BT market failure in rural areas.

  • Install: about 3 days
At least 60mbit down, 10mbit up. Always stable connection
None
I love internet in S. Korea

Not being able to find a Korean speed-test site, I'm unsure of my speeds. I know I'm higher than the US-based download speeds due to the speeds I get on well-seeded torrents.

All I know is:

Very stable connection
~$37/month
Download speeds have been as high as 60mbit down, at least 10mbit up. Downloading a movie in 3 minutes is very cool (when I can get a torrent that's seeded well enough, and after tweaking Vista to get those speeds with torrents).

Install was easy, the guy even waited around for 10 minutes because I was late. There is no equipment, I just plug my Ethernet cable into the wall port. It would appear however, that I am behind some sort of NAT.

It's been nothing but good experiences so far.

Go to testmy.net and do a download speed test and post your results here with the validation link. I'd like to see this.
