Update May 31, 2009
No problems to report. Just great service. As cheap as this service is (1c/min PAYGO) I am amazed. Outgoing always works, incoming always works, no choppy voices, no audio drops. This provider has none of the problems of my previous providers with a must lower price point. GREAT!
Update March 30, 2009
I think I have been here for about a month now. So far rock solid. I may have had one failed call, and that may have been due to my ISP. Keep up the good work.
---------------------------------Original Review-----------------------------
I recently came to F9 from ViaTalk. My primary reason for leaving VT was that I am extremely cheap coupled with concerns about their call quality. With VT there were were the fees and un-fees that were being assessed to the point where I really didn't know what my monthly cost would be at renewal. That, coupled with the fact that over several recent months I had been using only about 350 minutes per month, thus not deriving any value from the unlimited plan necessitated a change.
After shopping around, I found that at only 1c minute for domestic calling, no need for e911 (I have a cell phone) or additional unfees, I could have a Pay as you go account with F9 that met all my needs.
My wife wanted a local phone number. We have Grand Central (now becoming Google Voice) for that. I forward that to my IPKall number, which I can then forward to my F9 SIP account. This gives me free incoming PSTN calls with no per minute or recurring monthly charges. I can also make calls from my Grand Central control panel, which are also free. When I make/receive calls from the Grand Central number I sometimes notice excessive lag in delivery of the voice of the called party. I imagine this is in part due to the call being routed through Houston, to Washington State, then to the F9 servers, and back to Houston (plus whatever other crazy routing it might take.)
My wife didn't want to have to log onto the GC control panel every time we made a call so I bought $15 in credit from F9, or about 1500 minutes. The thing I really like is how those minutes don't expire until you use your credit. I also noticed that when I do dial from the handset that the lag on audio seems to be much almost non existent, much like a POTS or Cellular line. I also have not had any dead air issues when making calls like I did sometimes get while using Viatalk. Another feature I really like is that I was able to get my outbound CID set to my Grand Central number so the people I call will know how they can reach me.
The ATA I am using is a Grandstream HT 502 that I picked up from the Telephony Depot for about $50.00. Setup was pretty simple, I just used the directions on the F9 website for a different Grandstream Product.
Although I am probably not going to be a terribly profitable customer, I am a happy one. This service has been four to five nines thus far. For someone like me who has very low usage it is perfect. It works when I want it to and I get what I pay for. Although the website leaves something to be desired, the quality of the service and the value for the price more than makes up for it.

*** Update: May 29th, 2009 ***
Wow! I can't believe it's almost a year since I signed up with Future Nine. I have had no issues with service: Customer support is top class, zero billing errors, excellent call quality, no downtime. I cannot stress enough how happy I am with this company.
With the Internet so integral to our lives these days, it has also brought to light poor quality service; shoddy practices from some companies, and a general malaise from businesses in sectors who deal with customer services, & support. However, the Internet now also affords us, as consumers, to seek each other out in Forums: Discuss these issues together, and find solutions - such as moving services to another provider.
Where I with Bell Canada for telephone service, I would be paying more, for less, and getting poor customer service.
I am so happy I am with a good company; a fair company, and an honest company. Bravo, Nitzan!

First of all, about my ratings:
1. Their web site isn't as slick as Callcentric, but it's not the worst I have used. It does give reports on calls made, invoices, etc. So I gave them an average rating on that.
2. Call quality - Excellent. Just as good as Callcentric, with both calls to Canada & the UK.
3. Reliability - No problems so far. Seems good.
I found Future-nine right here on DSLR. They looked like they offered an interesting product. Similar to Callcentric: PAYG & BYOD, but with calls charged, on average, about 50% cheaper than Callcentric - Approximately 1 cent per minute outgoing to Canada & USA &, I believe, 1 cent a minute Internationally to UK landlines, specifically - Other international rates vary.
If you elect for the PAYG account & buy a DID, you get 3000 minutes incoming a month (According to their web site) - So you are really only paying for outgoing - This is far superior to Callcentric.
Setup was easy enough using my PAP2. They have various payment methods: Google checkout & Paypal were two I noticed. They charged my account by $15 - Minimum payment using Paypal.
There is no setup fee for the PAYG account - Don't know if that will change as they move to finished product. Canadian DID price: $5 for my area code plus $2 set up fee.
If you enjoy tinkering with VOIP, by all means sign up & give them a shot. You could save $$$'s on your existing service.
Overall a fantastic service, great call quality, brilliant tech support. I am very happy to have signed up with future-nine.

Had enough of Verizon and decided it was time to switch to a VOIP provider. My family does not use a landline enough to justify $48 a month that Verizon charges. Our cost with F9 - $7 a month (including 911 service). This is for the Bare Essentials plan. Nitzan (F9 owner) was even able to get me a local number. We didn't bother porting our Verizon number, this saved us $25.
Spent a couple of weeks here reading reviews and the forums. Had narrowed down to F9, CallCentric, and Voipo. Signed up with F9 and ordered an ATA. Took a few days for the ATA to arrive, but once it was delivered it only took about 5 minutes to setup and hear dialtone.
Been running a couple of weeks now with zero problems. My dsl contract with Verizon expired yesterday, so we canceled the landline and dsl. I was able to get 3 meg cable service from our local CATV company for a better price than Verizon dsl. We'll save $41 a month on phone service and $4 a month on broadband.
If F9 ever offers an affiliate program, I'd be the first in line to sign up. This is a great product at a great price!

After 6 years of Vonage, I pulled the plug. I tried VOIPo, and as you can see in my review, they bombed horribly, so I dug out my old AC-211 from SunRocket and took the opportunity to try my own Asterisk server and try out a couple of BYOD providers. I initially tried CallCentric and they are great for low cost DIDs but their termination rates were a bit high so I started shopping around, which is when I decided to try Future Nine. CC also charged for termination to 800 numbers so that was a negative.
Anyway, after I got my account set up, I had them up and running in about 20 minutes after I bought my first $10 of credit. Made a couple of test calls and configured my outbound routes on Asterisk for them. I must admit that the website is a bit confusing but once you get past that you'll be calling in no time.
Call quality has been great for them thus far. For US calls they sound as good as a POTS line. I've also made a couple of international calls using the white routes and they worked pretty good.
I've had no issues with downtime or reliability at all. The price is also unbeatable! 1 cent per minute anywhere in CONUS? Can't go wrong with that.
I don't use any special features as I choose to "roll my own" with my asterisk box.
There's no E911 available to the general public as yet. It's still in beta but that's fine since we have cellphones as a backup and my other provider CallCentric also supports E911. My advice would be never to depend on a single VoIP provider as your only way to call 911.
The CEO, Nitzan, is also a great person to deal with, and he frequents the forums so he's there to answer your questions about the service.
Highly recommended!
UPDATE 05/23/09 There are now a few changes such as higher rates for really rural rate centers, but that is understandable due to high reciprocal compensation charged to F9 (some view this as abuse of the system), as well as incentives to keep you locked into plans including a $15 "downgrade fee." I can understand the business aspect of it, so I am not complaining since I am remaining a PAYG customer. But that is something to take into account if you are considering a plan. Still rock solid and reliable though. I haven't heard of any outage that was more than a few minutes, and I certainly haven't noticed any.
Grey routes are basically buyer beware but I have tried them and they work OK. I have had a couple of false answers with the UK grey route but that appears to have been fixed.

| one cent per minute Interesting. 1 cent per minute, IMHO is a good and fair price for VOIP. I have Vonage, but may be switching, depending on how they handle my echo problem (on the Vonage side of the call), that has grown to about 15-25% of all calls.
I do like the various feaures that Vonage has (contact book, Vonage Talk, etc), and would miss those. | |

Had Cox Digital Telephone for five years and had super call-quality with no outages. Why did I switch? $52/mo. for unlimited US calls! Had heard about VOIP for a long time and decided dslreports was a place to research VOIP companies. My initial hunch was to go with Callcentric because of their good reviews and polished website. But the more time I spent on the VOIP Tech Chat Forum, the more I was intrigued by F9. $135/yr. (prepaid) + $1/mo. for E911 for unlimited (3000) outgoing calls and unlimited incoming. That's what I've been paying for about 2 1/2 months with COX!
Nitzan, the owner, is a regular on these forums and provides super-fast customer service via email. The only trouble I've had was with some initial settings on my ATA (and I think on F9's end, too) That was trouble-shot immediately and fixed. I purchased my PAP2t ATA from F9 already pre-configured with my account info, so essentially it was plug and play. One just needs to know how to attach a device via CAT5 to one's home network.
I am currently awaiting the completion of a number port so I can have my old number from Cox. When that is complete, I will cancel them and hopefully live happily ever after.
Negatives: Website is sub-par, somewhat difficult to navigate, overall is unpleasing to the eye. Company is a small start-up a will hopefully be around for a while, not grow too fast, etc... otherwise prepaid yearly plans could become poor values. Difficult to ignore some sense of uneasiness when dealing with really small shops.

I've had Future Nine for a year now and I'm very happy with it. The international rates are great and the domestic voice quality is much better than I've experienced on other providers. Uptime has been near perfect and the small issues I've had were quickly sorted out by Future Nine's tech support.
I am using Grandcentral with a free IPKall number and F9's pay as you go plan. I am using the SPA I was left with when SunRocket took off and I'm pleased with the performance. F9 has all the information you need to set up the SPA. I can even dial local numbers without the area code.
By request, Future Nine has assigned my Grandcentral number as the caller ID that shows when I call people. This is great since people usually don't answer when they see the out of state area code of the IPKall number.
The addition of multiple routes for overseas calling has eliminated much of the earlier quality issues I had with overseas voice. I still use Grand Central (now Google Voice) for voice mail as there isn't any online access to Future Nine's mailbox (not yet at least).
The recently updated website is easier to use and offers both google checkout and paypal options to recharge your account. Occasionally it takes google checkout a few hours to update your account with the new balance but Paypal is usually instant (important if your account is out of money and you need to make a call).
Future Nine offers a lot more than I'll ever use but is still a far better value than any of the other services I have tried. I am especially impressed by the ever present tech-support.

I've been Beta testing Future-Nine since went live. From day 1 setup was a breeze. Simply sign up, get login information, set up your ATA (instructions available on the web site), and you have dial tone. Call quality, simply amazing. A colleague of mine used it to call a relative abroad, he was so amazed with the call quality that he signed up for service same day. Tech support has been stellar. Most of my issues were resolved within few hours. When it comes to pricing, you cannot go wrong. Most (if not all) international rates have been lower than the cheapest calling card I could find. $13.50/month for domestic unlimited service is also a great price.
Service is still in Beta and there are more things to come. I plan to continue with Future-Nine.
I will update the review as I continue to use Future-Nine!
*** July 08, 2008 Update ***
The service is working flawless as before. Nitzan has been helpful with all issues (minor) that I had on my side. Although there is no tech support (phone number) available during Beta stage, Nitzan has been great resolving any issues. I am updating the rating (tech support) to 5.
*** April 17, 2009 Update ***
Not much new to update. Service has been working great. Domestic and International rates have been excellent. Call quality is superb. I am updating website rating to 5 with the recent site updates.

-----update 04-05-2009-----
Great service, reliable, excellent quality, fax & DTMF work consistently. Nitzan is very responsive and his service is so reliable I might not remember his name if he didn't participate in this forum. The year I've been with F9 has been a pleasure.
-----original review 3-2008-----
Started F9 on a beta test. Very responsive - personalized setup on member portal. I copied and pasted info into Asterisk, changed context, reloaded and outbound worked. Quality is as good or better than any I've tried. I couldn't get both outgoing and incoming working at the same time. Exchanged several support tickets and had a fix in about 16 hours.

I sent emails this Sunday. waiting for response yet. called my others FN friends, they even not started yet. couldn't help any except giving me FN email, which I have known. sounds a quite new company.
I don't have DID yet (waiting to porting my existing number). Therefore I couldn't call my new FN phone, however I listened (remote) my voice messages made by FN, very clear. I will let my family call me office Monday and re-confirm the FN call quality. My experience, echo is a main VOIP issue, in viewpoint of call quality. I am using verizon FIOS, enough bandwidth. | |

| Touch-tone phone? Ok, a new problem. seems the FN service is NOT a real touch-tone phone service. every time I use to it to input my credit card# or phone#, the receiving party always complains and "input not correct", or "not responding correctly". It's a pain to me. if touch-tone not working, I have to talk to operator, the waiting for an operator is very long. but I have to wait since the input couldn't be recognized.
anyone experienced this problem? and what's your solution, or settings?

04/03/2009
I have been a Future-Nine customer for about a year now. I signed up to test how good the service is. I was a former SunRocket customer and thought it would be a good idea to have a good backup provider just in case one of my services decided to go out of business. Well has luck would have it Vonics apparently went out of business this past summer of 2008. My Vonics line was primarily used by my teenage kids. So I decided to sign up for the annual America Free Plan at that time. The kids never complain about any outage and the phone line gets used a lot. The phone just works! If there was ever an outage no one in my house ever noticed.
I recently ported over my fax line number over from Vonage.
I placed my order around the middle of March and ordered a new papt2 adapter with line 1 optimized for voice calls and line 2 optimized for fax. Before the week was out I had my new adapter and on April 1 my port was completed. Everything went just went so smoothly. Not to mention I am now saving about $17.00 monthly with the switch from Vonage.
I would strongly recommend this service!

Was going to go with VoiceStick, but there were too many complaints about the never-ending wait for the "new switch".
Looked at voip.ms, callcentric, les.net and future-nine, and for dial-in, only future-nine and voip.ms had incoming CID with name.
3000 minutes a month (basically unlimited) for only $5 including all taxes, fees, regulatory, etc. No per call "lookup" fees, no extra anything! Other services were usually about $2/month plus a service fee plus a per minute charge and if I did more than 100 or so minutes of incoming, it was just worth it.
Outgoing at 1c/min with CID isn't too shabby either, but I don't like the 60 second billing increments.
I requested a temporary number from the owner here until my number port from Vonage completes, and he had his end set up within half an hour of my ordering the service, so turnaround is quick too. Following the setup guide for my ATA on F9's FAQ page was also seamless and had me running within only a couple of minutes making and receiving calls.
My suggestion is that if you need a phone adapter, order one from F9 as well, as I hear they come pre-configured, and the pricing is very competitive.
------ Update ------
I've now been with Future-nine for over a month, and I'm extremely pleased with the service. I have so far had only 1 call that required a call-back, the far-end caller couldn't hear me at all, but calling back fixed it and it hasn't happened again since. The port from Vonage went off without a hitch, and so far I am saving a lot, the savings should cover the vonage termination fee and the cost for a new ATA within about 4 months.
