Had Cox Digital Telephone for five years and had super call-quality with no outages. Why did I switch? $52/mo. for unlimited US calls! Had heard about VOIP for a long time and decided dslreports was a place to research VOIP companies. My initial hunch was to go with Callcentric because of their good reviews and polished website. But the more time I spent on the VOIP Tech Chat Forum, the more I was intrigued by F9. $135/yr. (prepaid) + $1/mo. for E911 for unlimited (3000) outgoing calls and unlimited incoming. That's what I've been paying for about 2 1/2 months with COX!

Nitzan, the owner, is a regular on these forums and provides super-fast customer service via email. The only trouble I've had was with some initial settings on my ATA (and I think on F9's end, too) That was trouble-shot immediately and fixed. I purchased my PAP2t ATA from F9 already pre-configured with my account info, so essentially it was plug and play. One just needs to know how to attach a device via CAT5 to one's home network.

I am currently awaiting the completion of a number port so I can have my old number from Cox. When that is complete, I will cancel them and hopefully live happily ever after.

Negatives: Website is sub-par, somewhat difficult to navigate, overall is unpleasing to the eye. Company is a small start-up a will hopefully be around for a while, not grow too fast, etc... otherwise prepaid yearly plans could become poor values. Difficult to ignore some sense of uneasiness when dealing with really small shops.

I've had Future Nine for a year now and I'm very happy with it. The international rates are great and the domestic voice quality is much better than I've experienced on other providers. Uptime has been near perfect and the small issues I've had were quickly sorted out by Future Nine's tech support.

I am using Grandcentral with a free IPKall number and F9's pay as you go plan. I am using the SPA I was left with when SunRocket took off and I'm pleased with the performance. F9 has all the information you need to set up the SPA. I can even dial local numbers without the area code.

By request, Future Nine has assigned my Grandcentral number as the caller ID that shows when I call people. This is great since people usually don't answer when they see the out of state area code of the IPKall number.

The addition of multiple routes for overseas calling has eliminated much of the earlier quality issues I had with overseas voice. I still use Grand Central (now Google Voice) for voice mail as there isn't any online access to Future Nine's mailbox (not yet at least).

The recently updated website is easier to use and offers both google checkout and paypal options to recharge your account. Occasionally it takes google checkout a few hours to update your account with the new balance but Paypal is usually instant (important if your account is out of money and you need to make a call).

Future Nine offers a lot more than I'll ever use but is still a far better value than any of the other services I have tried. I am especially impressed by the ever present tech-support.

I've been Beta testing Future-Nine since went live. From day 1 setup was a breeze. Simply sign up, get login information, set up your ATA (instructions available on the web site), and you have dial tone. Call quality, simply amazing. A colleague of mine used it to call a relative abroad, he was so amazed with the call quality that he signed up for service same day. Tech support has been stellar. Most of my issues were resolved within few hours. When it comes to pricing, you cannot go wrong. Most (if not all) international rates have been lower than the cheapest calling card I could find. $13.50/month for domestic unlimited service is also a great price.

Service is still in Beta and there are more things to come. I plan to continue with Future-Nine.

I will update the review as I continue to use Future-Nine!

*** July 08, 2008 Update ***

The service is working flawless as before. Nitzan has been helpful with all issues (minor) that I had on my side. Although there is no tech support (phone number) available during Beta stage, Nitzan has been great resolving any issues. I am updating the rating (tech support) to 5.

*** April 17, 2009 Update ***

Not much new to update. Service has been working great. Domestic and International rates have been excellent. Call quality is superb. I am updating website rating to 5 with the recent site updates.

Was going to go with VoiceStick, but there were too many complaints about the never-ending wait for the "new switch".

Looked at voip.ms, callcentric, les.net and future-nine, and for dial-in, only future-nine and voip.ms had incoming CID with name.

3000 minutes a month (basically unlimited) for only $5 including all taxes, fees, regulatory, etc. No per call "lookup" fees, no extra anything!
Other services were usually about $2/month plus a service fee plus a per minute charge and if I did more than 100 or so minutes of incoming, it was just worth it.

Outgoing at 1c/min with CID isn't too shabby either, but I don't like the 60 second billing increments.

I requested a temporary number from the owner here until my number port from Vonage completes, and he had his end set up within half an hour of my ordering the service, so turnaround is quick too.
Following the setup guide for my ATA on F9's FAQ page was also seamless and had me running within only a couple of minutes making and receiving calls.

My suggestion is that if you need a phone adapter, order one from F9 as well, as I hear they come pre-configured, and the pricing is very competitive.

------ Update ------

I've now been with Future-nine for over a month, and I'm extremely pleased with the service. I have so far had only 1 call that required a call-back, the far-end caller couldn't hear me at all, but calling back fixed it and it hasn't happened again since.
The port from Vonage went off without a hitch, and so far I am saving a lot, the savings should cover the vonage termination fee and the cost for a new ATA within about 4 months.

The voip service i have with future nine is for calling out. It costs me .01 cents a min.
I pay in advance $10.00 increments.
As long as the windstream 3mb dsl is working, the voip works great.
I use the pots line for incoming calls in concert with an auto line switcher, connecting my Linksys 2 line pap2t adapter for out bound calls.

For back up i can call out through my pots line or use my at&t DECT 6.0 phone system to connect to my cell phone via blue tooth.

I've only been using Future Nine for about a month. I signed up based on the excellent support that Nitzan provides in the forums here at DSLR.

I'm also using another VoIP provider and my calls default to them, so my usage so far with Future Nine has been fairly low. I only use VoIP for outgoing calls, all my incoming calls are on a standard Qwest POTS line.

Positives:
Cheap
Top notch support. Nitzan goes above an beyond to help
Bring your own device
Pay as you go available
Able to set my out going CallerID to my POTS number
Accepts PayPal

Negatives:
Web site is ugly, but they are working on that.
Can't easily search available DID's before signing up, although signup is free.
Have had a few random calls with poor audio. Not sure if it was on my end or not, but when routing the calls to another provider they sounded fine.

As I noted above, I have had a few calls with poor audio quality, but the vast majority of my calls have sounded excellent.

Overall all I'm pleased with the service, and I have no doubt that it will continue to improve over time.

------ update February 22, 2009 ------

I have been using their service now for over six months and have two pay-as-you-go accounts. The service has been very reliable and the voice quality very close to POTS. Customer service is very responsive. Also, still the cheapest rates for most countries. Keep up the good work Nitzan!

--------------------------------------

I have been using FN for nearly two months and have nothing but positive thing to say about their service. The voice quality is excellent and customer service is top notch. Their rates are amongst the cheapest in the VOIP world.

I would recommend their service to anyone without hesitation. Thing to be kept in mind is that they are mainly a BYOD service provider.

This service is really amazing... we cut our phone bill from $22-40/mo to $0-5/mo. We're using Pay As You Go, F9 is the cheapest I could find that had good reviews.. and I can see why. I'm sold on voip now.

I used the faq on the F9 website to do the setup for a new linksys pap2t from amazon, and used ipkall for a free phone number. I did ditch dd-wrt on my linksys wrt54g router, and switched to tomato for it's better QOS options (do a google search for instructions to setup voip on tomato.)

I connected the pap2t line 1 output to our media center so that it goes out to each room in the house.. all work great, including 3 cordless phones

I gave a 5 for tech support even though I didn't need any... I saw the guy from F9 helps people a lot on here.. that's really nice considering how little $ they must make off us (or at least, people like me.)

The lacking feature on the website is a comprehensive list of rates, but if you type in the number, it tells you anyway.

I've had Future Nine's PAYG plan for a couple months, for my small business. Actually, PAYG is for outgoing non-800 calls only ($0.01/min. in the U.S.); all incoming calls, as well as outgoing toll-free calls, are no extra charge. Customer service is always responsive whenever I've had a concern - which happens almost never. Call quality is perfect, except when my Internet connection is acting up (not F9's fault).

Only down sides:
- The Web site is rather utilitarian. I don't know how much this impacts F9's ability to get new customers.
- I'd love outgoing CNAM, which F9 doesn't provide. However, that's one reason why it's cheap. Wholesale carriers who provide this feature charge a rather extortionate amount for it.

Overall, two thumbs up.

UPDATE: Just successfully ported my number in exactly 3 weeks. Service is still excellent, no problems to report.

________________________________________________________________________

This is my first time using a BYOD provider so I bought a Linksys RTP300 from ebay (approx. $16.50 incl. shipping). Once I got rid of the Vonage firmware it was a breeze to setup F9. They have very clear instructions on their website. (I must admit it is much more enjoyable to use my own device which can be configured to my own specs, than being stuck with the providers device and configuration .) Call quality has been excellent, much better than what I have experienced in the past from voip providers (Packet8 and ATT). I did have a little issue in getting my DID number. It took them 5 days to get it to me, claimed it was because their carrier was being slow because of the Thanksgiving holiday. Otherwise I have not had any serious issues.

Tech support is excellent. Always a quick and relevant response.

Call quality is excellent on both ends.

No hidden fees. They are commited to charging you only the advertised price. No taxes and fees. With my previous provider (ATT) for a $24.95 monthly plan, I was paying over $30 /month after taxes and fees. With F9, They advertise $13.50 a month and that is all that is deducted from my account at the beginning of the month.

Everyone seems to complain about their website. It's not the prettiest, but there is a lot there and it grows on you after a little.

One thing I wish they had was a way to charge my credit card automatically. The way they have it currently set up is you have to manually add money to you account (through paypal or google checkout). It's just a little inconvenience. They told me they might add this functionality at some point in the future.

Another missing feature is a safe forward number. The ability to set a phone number to ring only when your ATA is offline. If you need to be reachable 100% of the time, this could be a problem. (There is a way to configure a second number to ring after your ATA rings, but then your voicemail will never pick up. If you use an answering machine instead of voicemail this is not an issue for you.)

They don't currently offer E911 but it seems that they have plans for adding it in the near future.

Keep in mind that they are still in beta, so some (minor) features are missing, but will hopefully be added eventually.

All in all, it is a value that cannot be beat. Their prices are without question the lowest around (including international rates - I call the UK for less than 1 cent a minute!) and the service is also great - not what you would expect for the price. You can read this article »ezinearticles.com/?Thing ··· =1464025 from the CEO of Future Nine, I think he hit the nail right on the head.
