$15 per month CenturyTel "Very cheap, good value, alright tech support, quick install, no extra charges, no contract" "Slow speeds, not the best connection reliability" "Good internet for a good price"

I've had this company for a little over a year now. It's only 14.95/month for their HiSpeed plan.
Ordering went very quick and they didn't mislead or lie about anything. The best part, there's no contract to worry about and installation was quick.
The good experience that most struck me was when I couldn't make a payment the one month, talked to them, and they actually gave me that month free of charge.

$22 per month about 5 days AT&T "Good customer service, very affordable, you get what is promised to you." "none yet" "If you're on a low budget and can't afford cable, This is the next best thing."

I never thought that Netzero would offer high-speed internet until I'd seen it advertised on their website. I started off with their dial-up service (which wasn't bad for dial-up). When I saw the link on the site, I figured, what the hey? why not give it a try.
So I called them, I didn't have to wait for a customer service rep, they were friendly on the phone which was important to me. They offered me the service and I was up and running in a week. After I made the transaction over the phone and made the payment, within 2 days the service was activated. So all I had to do was wait for the modem kit which was from 2Wire. I got the 1.5MPS service which was what I ordered. It was only $22.95 per month (which I think is a good deal)

When I first signed up I had a download speed of 1.38mbps. I now have a DL of 481kbps. I contacted tech support and they ran me through all the diagnostics on my computer to no success. They are supposed to send a tech to my home to check things out. I will let you know how that goes.

about 7 days Verizon (ex GTE) "Good price for the speed, easy setup/installation." "Latency issues?" "Beats the heck out of dialup!"

My parents had dialup. We had to move in with my parents for a while. Dialup wasn't going to work. They live out in the sticks where options are few (a local wireless ISP -- I don't remember the name, but it's not ClearWire -- charges $100 a month with a $350 setup fee!), so I wasn't optimistic. More than once, a DSL provider's web site said that DSL service was available at this phone number. But when you give them the actual address, they said it's not. I figured Verizon was the best bet since they're providing the phone service, but their web site was useless - they kept saying the service address was invalid or some such thing.
Then there's NetZero. Their web site says the phone number and address are within their coverage. Call the sales number, and they agreed. Okay, set me up! That didn't take long. The equipment arrived a few days later. They sent a 2Wire DSL router. They said we'd have service in a week, and we did! Installation was as simple as plugging everything into the proper places. Speed tests confirm that we're getting the speeds we were promised (768 kbps down, 128 kbps up). The price is $23.95 a month with a $1.50 charge that has something to do with us being out in the sticks and what it takes maintain the service out here and all that. For another $6 a month, we could get 1.5 Mbps, but we don't really need it.
I was really happy with how easy it was to order and install. My first DSL experience was with USWest (which became Qwest) back in 1999. That was awful (both the first AND second times), so just about anything would be good by comparison. But this was really good.
My only complaint is that it's not uncommon to go for short periods of time (around a minute or so) with no data movement. I don't know if it's the service, or just the fact that we're out in the sticks and lucky to have DSL service at all. Like I said, though, it beats the heck out of dialup!
