DSL and Cable have never been available here. I started with dial-up, then moved to DirecWay 2-way satellite. Both were unsatisfactory . Satellite had low reliability, high cost, high latency. Tried other available service using 2.7GHz wireless but number of trees made that unworkable despite ISP's heroic efforts to make it work. Finally went with NEATO. A small, local, independent ISP which is using 900MHz Motorola Canopy wireless to deliver service. I have the radio and YAGI antenna mounted on my chimney. It is a 900MHz system which isn't sensitive to moisture so it penetrates surrounding trees and keeps working just fine in heavy rain conditions. Speeds are normally in the 2.8M down/800k up region and occasionally drop as low as 1.5M down/400k up. Pings are in the 60-120ms range. Service is a delight. Being a small independent, the user support is sometimes a bit of a stretch for them as is ongoing operation of their mail server. They do, however, always come through. For the price/speed/reliability, I couldn't be happier. A great service that I highly recommend.
