I recently moved to the area and was signed up for GTel's Level 2 DSL plan ($50 for 1.5M) and cable TV ($40 for analog). Within the last few months, they doubled my speeds with no price increase and I signed up for their new digital IPTV service with DVR and free HD for a month. The installers were great, very neat and personable. Although I had my doubts, the service is working out great and the HD has great quality. I'm very happy with what I've got. Also said they are looking to extend their already up-and-running fiber-to-the-home network. Great improvements on their part.

In Germantown NY, G-Tel's DSL is the only service available for broadband, it isn't available over cable here. Ordered the fastest residential speed offered, "up to" 3 Mb for $79/mo., on top of land line. Were able to fulfill my order in only two days but the install guy was too lazy to reconnect the DSL jack I originally had installed six years earlier in my office as I requested; instead hooked up the jack in the living room where my most recent tenant had it. Said if it didn't work out on that side of the house to call and they could change it. Thanks a lot, buster. Sixty bucks for that. Speedtouch modem had to be reset after first use to realize 3 Mb rather than 1.5, but since then it's been okay. (G-Tell also takes requests for wireless capable devices but I have my own D-Link with super G so I passed on that.)
Phone company is currently engaged in laying fiber but were completely incredulous when I inquired as to how many Mbps they'd offer, said the lines are to be for a new broadband video service, not for internet, they would be sticking with DSL. Huh?
