I have Filer Mutual Telephone Company whose internet is provided by a company called Syringa Networks. As far as everyday web browsing the speeds are fine, they offer several plans from 768k all the way up to 3 MEG, but their value for the speeds is not good. Their 1.5 Meg service is 45.00 a month pre tax and that is just for internet, the REQUIRE you to have their phone service also for an extra 25.00 a month for BASIC service local calls only no extras.
The problems start if you attempt to do anything besides web browsing, for instance gaming, downloading, or running a webcam, none of these work without paying extra money for IP addresses and buying a router or other equipment. You have the choice of buying your own router, but they advise against it because according to their sales rep "only their routers are guaranteed to work, all others might fail" To be safe you decide to buy their router, a generic Linksys router which I saw at Best Buy for 35.00 they charge 80.00 for plus a 15.00 install of the router, as if I can't hook up a router myself! Not to mention the 5.00 a month charge for "using" the router.
Overall these guys are money grubbing penny pinchers who offer nothing of value. Like I mentioned they have tiers of speeds, the fastest they offer is meg and they want 80.00 a month plus other fees for that.
Sorry the dollar sign or well four key is busted on my keyboard so I had to improvise. all amounts are in US Dollars.
They also offer IPTV service but where DirecTV is king of the land here we chose to go with them for TV service. If it wasn't for the outrageous deposits they want we'd switch to hughsnet right away, but for now Filer Mutual is all we can get.
What I dislike the most is not the fees, but the lies and deceit. I hate how they talk down to me like I'm a child and can't figure out how to set up my own router or modem. I hate how they charge outrageous fees for every little service they provide. If I had any other choice I would never use this ISP, but if you live in the small town of Jackpot NV, as I do, then this is your only option save one of the Wireless companies which are not very reliable here either due to lack of towers.
