CapuNet has been great so far. I had to ask a lot of questions because they don't have much information on their website, but they did everything from help me purchase the equipment I needed in addition to the Speedstream (NIC for my desktop & ethernet hub) to talking me through the software settings in WIndows 95 and Windows 98. I never had to wait on hold to talk to anyone - the office operator was always able to connect me with a tech support person or account manager immediately.
I signed the service contract on 12/17/99, and we were up and running on 1/12/00. They estimated 4 weeks for install, and came in under the wire. The only problem we had was that the Covad technician was late for his appointment. He did the work but said he would have to come back the next morning to ping the ISP so he could close the order, since they were closed for the night. He said I could not use the account until he came back, but the followign morning I received an email stating that the order had been closed, and when the technician called to say he was running late, he said he had surfed the web from his laptop the night before and everything should be fine. Also, he only left a crossover cable - no straight through Cat 5. This seems to be a common problem with Covad.
We ordered an additional static IP so both of us could be online at the same time. For an extra $5 a month this seemed to be the easiest way (for a novice) to get both computers connected without worrying about a router crashing or figuring out other equipment. What a step up from Bell Atlantic's ban on more than one computer per line and nothing but static IPs for residential customers. I highly recommend CapuNet!

Okay, so I haven't quite ordered yet but I think I am about to. I am very irritated with current provider of Cable modem I am using called "Ex-Pressnet" from Cable TV Montgomery here in Maryland. I constantly have to reboot the cable modem, also lots of packet loss and besides that the upstream is a DIAL up connection. I know this is DSLreports.com and not Cablereports.com so I'll save the rant. I am leaning heavily towards this ISP, CapuNET. Mainly because the CS rep I talked to seemed knowledgable and friendly, and their main office is about 5 miles away so if i have to complain I can practically walk there. I'd have to say the MAIN reason would be the price. $69 for 768/384 is about the best around. I am about 3600' away from CO. I tried to get Flashcom DSL last year for their $39 "special" and there was nothing after 2 months of waiting so I cancelled. (they conveniantly kept my hundred bucks and after seeing all the other posts here and the fact that I am not only impatient but also lazy means I'll prob. not fight them) Anyway, I plan to order DSL before this Covad rebate is over so I better decide soon!!
More later,
Roy aka fohat

Ordered aDSL 384/128 residential on Sept. 29, 1999. Installed December 8, 1999. Time elapsed: 69 days
Installation was a nightmare. It is not possible to recite here the long story. Suffice it to say that Bell Atlantic is a major pain in the ass. They missed a scheduled date (for which I stayed home from work), and showed up with no advance notice3 weeks later (I happen to be home sick, so that worked out). I cannot blame capunet for this - I assume this would happen with any other ISP, as they all have to go through BA. However, the system stinks - I could only talk to capunet, who could only talk to Covad, who could only talk to BA. Needless to say, install coordination suffers. (I'm envious of the reviewers who ordered service and got installation 2 or 3 weeks later!) The installation took so long that the Covad/Efficient Networks modem rebate period expired. I was told to submit under the new rebate program, which fortunately had increased in amount from $100 to $150.
On the bright side, everything since the installation has been excellent. The service is near-flawless - it did fail for an hour or two one day, but that's it. I get almost exactly 384. Capunet personnel are very friendly and accomodating, if at times somewhat forgetful. You do get personal service. I chose them because of the low price, static IP, and apparent geek friendliness. (I wanted my own domain name, no blocked ports, to use Linux.) I am not disappointed, and would recommend them to anyone, especially people for whom these issues are important.

I have nothing but positive things to say about CapuNet. I placed my order on 12/21/99 and I was successfully up and running by 1/14/2000. The only reason it took as long as it did was because Bell Atlantic did their work a week later that they were supposed to. Both CapuNet and Covad have given me terrific customer support. They have both been very prompt to respond to my questions and the Covad technicians arrived when scheduled. There was only one minor glich which involved my PVC circuit (?). However, because of Covad and CapuNet's prompt service, that problem was resolved in less than 24 hours.
I signed up for 384/128 ADSL. My initial tests have shown that I am getting about 300 Kbps so far, but I haven't done enough tests to verify how valid that number is. I can say that my speed improvement has been quite significant.
I would highly recommend CapuNet as an ISP.

I can't say enough about this ISP. I was previously on a cable modem. I then switch to Bell Atlantic's DSL service...that was a disaster...I considered staying with my cable, but I thought I would try Covad's service. I got the 768/384 service and it has been SMOKIN'!!!
The only reason I didn't give them all fives is because they could use some more info about their service on their web site. But all my questions were answered when I spoke to them on the phone.
The installation took just under 3 weeks. Tech support isn't available 24/7, at least not for residential, I'm not sure about business orders. But they are very responsive and I have never been on hold for more than two minutes.
If you are in the MD/DC/VA area, definitely check this ISP out!

I am extremely happy with Capunet, I've had their ADSL service for about 3 weeks now, no complaints yet. The only reason I gave 4 stars for install coordination was because Bell Atlantic didn't show up on the day they were supposed to, but the phone guy did show up the very next day. That's not Capunet's or Covad's fault. Covad was here at the exact time they said they would be. Capunet provides up to 2 static IP's for free.
I was up and running about 30 days from the day I ordered the service, not too bad. It has been well worth the wait.
(Initially I ordered ADSL service from Flashcom because of the cheap rate they advertised. Then I heard of all the horror stories and so I promptly canceled...that in itself took several phone calls and emails, and they still kept calling me to schedule installation! But that's a story that's been heard enough times.)
I have the 768/384 service, and so far I have gotten what I paid for, no matter what time of the day or night (avg 70-85KB/s dl.) Speed is solid, no complaints about email or newsgroup service. Heheheh, I'm proud to finally become a fellow LPB (low ping bastard) in online games like Half-Life and Q2/Q3A!!!
The people in their tech support and sales are very friendly, and they are willing to make sure the customer is satisfied at every step...a very comforting feeling. No need to play phone-tag with these guys.
If you are in the Bethesda/Potomac/Rockville MD area, definitely consider Capunet and forget about Bell Atlantic or any others.
