I originally has Rogers cable but got fed up with the constant overages they were dinging my household for. I switched to teksavvy DSL 200 GB package and was happy with that. When teksavvy announced cable availability in Mississauga I decided to wait for a bit to see if there were growing pains as experienced in Toronto.
Overall the teksavvy staff are very responsive and helpful both on the phone and in the direct forum. However, they do have process related issues that ought to be cleaned up.
For example, I ordered the cable extreme pro with modem on-line. I put in my credit card and existing customer information. It said I'd be contact within 48 hours. 4 days go by and I post in the direct forum to ask what's going on. I'm told there's a note on the order asking for more details.
So why was there no follow up from sales to me asking for that follow up information until I prompted teksavvy? There's more stuff like this where teksavvy needs to nail down the processes, exceptions and workflow to keep the customer in the loop. In other words, there's room for improvement.
Other than that, I'm very happy with my cable service. Great speed and latency.

Update: 21/03/2011: Still good. No downtime. No congestion. Ported my wired phone line to VoIP (currently with voip.ms). Quality is actually better than Bell's wire. Now running Bell-free.
Update: 25/02/2011: So far so good. No downtime. Consistent speeds.
Dropped TSI DSL in favour of TSI Cable Extreme 15/1. Local service is TPIA via Rogers. The previous home owners had cable TV but we did not. I ordered the new service online and had to wait 7 days for activation. I also ordered a Motorola SB6120 online as TSI was out of stock, which I had to do first so that I could provide the modem MAC and customer serial number with the service order. Ah, the agony of the wait.
Rogers tech showed up a bit early but was in and out quick. Speed so far has been consistent, with speed boost giving better than 15/1 when tested. No evidence of congestion so far and I hope never to see it with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem.
I'll be dropping the phone land line for VoIP so in the long run this option will be cheaper and faster. What's really ridiculous is that the VoIP line quality is better than the underground POTS line by Bell. It was never a problem for DSL, but the voice line always had a bad hum on the line, even at the demarcation point. Bell's sent out techs to dig up the line every view months for various neighbours, but things never improved. The last straw for me was Bell's push for UBB. Good riddance. You'll never get a dime out of me again.

$42 per month about 5 days "Amazing support, Amazing Speeds, downloading at Steady 15-17 mbps, and Unlimited Bandwith" "Had to wait for Stupid Rogers to activate my modem with Teksavvy for 5 days, Not TekSavvy Fault though, they did everything :)" "Amazing service at low cost with steady speeds and unlimited usage."

So I've been a Rogers customer for over 8 years, and have had a lot of issues with Rogers. Mostly pertaining to billing... I was often charged more than I was supposed to pay. I also had multiple issues where my speeds with my DOCSIS 2.0 modem were going from 15 mbps to 0.5 mbps in peak hours.
Ever since I purchased a Motorola SB6120 Rogers gave me a hell of a hard time to activate it with their network. Once I did, the congestion issues were totally eliminated, and I was experiencing full speeds at all times. However Rogers imposed stricter and stricter bandwith limits and the internet costs were going over the roof.
I've always looked at TekSavvy as an amazing provider, but they were never in my area. Until one day my friend mentioned that he signed up with TekSavvy for Cable Internet. That was my wake up call, so I immediately called TekSavvy and scheduled and activation appointment for March 10, 2011.
I cancelled my rogers service on February 10, 2011 (giving them 30 days), however as Rogers wants to put their customers through hell, they didn't cancel my service until March 12, 2011. In the middle of all this was TekSavvy. I provided them with my modem information (s/n and MAC ID) however Rogers kept refusing the information they sent for over 10-15 times saying (that is not the modem we have on file for that serial number "apparently my Motorola showed up in their system as an SMC, which i have never had").
Anyways after 5 long days and multiple escalations with many people from TSI, I managed to get online on Thursday morning, March 17, 2011.
Thank you TekSavvy for having such dedicated support, thank you TSI Rick, and TSI Shawn for being there with me every step of the way.

14/02/11
I was on Rogers Extreme mainly because I went over 60 GB cap of Express more often than not. In spite of being on contract until June, decided to abandon ship for $80 penalty ($20/month). Called Teksavvy, verified pricing. Called Rogers to cancel Internet service and cancellation date set to 15/03/11. Called Teksavvy again, ordered Express package (as I was fine with 10Mbps) and waited for March 15.
15/02/11 Received the modem the very next day! Fast courier shipment!
15/03/11 Used Rogers until 7 pm, and then went to return to Rogers store. Back home in 1 hour, plugged in teksavvy modem. Not online at first, so I called up Teksavvy support.Waited for about 20 minutes, but while I was in call queue, I realised I was already up and running, confirmed with Teksavvy IP on speedtest.net
Initially speed seemed low, but now stable at promised 10Mbps. Definitely worth ditching Rogers. I had switched from Rogers Cable to Bell DSL before and had horrible experience. But this time, I guess since it was cable to cable, it went smooth as ever.
No hassles whatsoever and am enjoying my new unlimited internet life.
If Rogers doesn't match Teksavvy home phone service when my promotion gets over, I won't hesitate to switch for that too. Any better options for homephone are always welcome.

| | GREAT service
I have had TekSavvy for over a year now and am on their $45/unlimited bandwidth service after getting fined $25/month by Roger's for going over their PATHETIC 60 GB cap. I can easily download 10 to 15 GB/day so I ALWAYS went over by the end of the first week.
I'm glad TS fought the scumbag at the CRTC who's OBVIOUSLY in the pocket of Roger's and Bell. I'm just surprised that the Government didn't go along with big business over the people like they usually do. As can be seen now that diesel is about 15 cents more expensive than gasoline when it costs much less to process and because almost all trucks run on it, is responsible for all the HUGE hikes in food and other goods delivered by diesel trucks, trains and ships.
Please let your MP and MPP know that you want to hold big business accountable and make sure you vote any/all politicians that don't listen (ie. Harper and McGuinty) out of Office!!!
| | | | Re: GREAT service Already signed those petitions
UPDATE: So far so good, I am on 10Mbps plan. but I easily hit 1.5MB/s (= ~14-15Mbps)on P2P softwares; and that too on laptop. I mention that because with Rogers, I had issues with even loading 720p videos on youtube. So much for making FAKE speedboost ads.
Now, I get 15Mbps sitting at same place on laptop, where connection failed previously. Same make of modem, and same router.

Torrents are not throttled on teksavvy, which is why you are achieving full speed, although I do not think it would be sustained at 15mbps unless rogers put you on the wrong profile.

I was looking to switch from DSL because BHELL! So I was looking at Acanac but I saw their mediocre rating. So I looked at TekSavvy cable because it was available in my area. So I thought, WHY THE HELL NOT! But then I noticed the start up cost. It was really high. So, I waited a bit to get the money for it. Then I signed up. Installation was set for Valentine's. Got the modem earlier. Then the rogers guy came and set everything up on the right date. Got hooked up and everything. Then for some reason, my connection was being all crappy. I called tech support and I found out rogers was being a dick. But after a week or two, my connection finally stabilized and I get 25mbit download and 512kbit up. The funny part? I ORDERED THE 10MBIT PACKAGE
Final verdict.
GET. TEKSAVVY. RIGHT. NOW.

$37 per month about 14 days "Speed, Value, Reliability, High (or unlimited) bandwith caps." "Coordination between Shaw and TekSavvy, no newsgroups." "Great value for early adopters, but be ready for startup pains"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)

I recently saw that TekSavvy was starting a cable internet trial in Vancouver. Given that Shaw had recently decided to drop their bandwidth caps I decided to give it a shot.
Since I was an existing Shaw customer with an owned SB5102 Modem (leftover from a Shaw promo a few years ago) I didn't need to buy a new modem.
I opted for the TekSavvy Pro package (15 down / 1 up / 300 Gig bandwidth) TekSavvy currently charges $37 / month for this package which is identical to the Shaw extreme package which cost me $57 / month (no bundle) but only included 100 Gig of bandwidth. So TekSavvy definitely won me over on the value proposition.
I should point out that TekSavvy does not have a Usenet server (newsgroups) for cable customers. Since I was already buying third party Usenet access for $10 /month (better retention than Shaw) this did not bother me, but could be an unpleasant surprise for some.
A contacted TekSavvy in the direct forum, and within an hour they explained that I needed to cancel my service with Shaw and then TekSavvy could schedule my transfer for the same day.
I did this and everything was set up quite painlessly to happen on the 15th of Feb.
On the 15th the Shaw service did not transfer over. On the morning of the 16th my service was disconnected and the transfer to TekSavvy did not happen. I phoned TekSavvy support and confirmed the MAC and Serial for my modem and they re-submitted the order to Shaw. Within two hours I was up and running again.
I did some speedtests at this point and speed and ping were fine, with the only oddness being the the geolocation thinks that my IP is coming from Ontario.
Unfortunately two days later the helpful Shaw guy came by and disconnected the cable in the cable closet for my building. I was half expecting this as Internet was the only service that I had with Shaw, and they are pretty aggressive at disconnecting unused lines in my building. Of course my line wasn't un-used but Shaw obviously did not check.
Again, I phoned TekSavvy and told them I did not have service and my suspicions of what had happened. They escalated the ticket to Shaw service and phoned me back within a few hours with a scheduled visit by Shaw for Saturday afternoon. (I lost service Thursday morning).
Unfortunately the Shaw tech was a no show. So I called TekSavvy again, and they resubmitted the request to Shaw. This time I received a call back from TekSavvy and Shaw saying that a tech was coming on Monday morning.
This time the Shaw tech did show up and reconnect my line. Immediately everything started working correctly. Since then I have had all of the speed I'm paying for with zero downtime.
All in all the TekSavvy technical support was excellent, but it would have been nice if the Shaw and TekSavvy arrangement was smoother. But I fully expected these kinds of start up headaches since I'm an early adopter.
I recommend this service, but please ensure that you are ready to take a bit of downtime during the trial. All in, I was without internet for four and a quarter days. But since that was over the weekend while I use the net less it simply meant that I needed to access the net via my phone for a couple days. For other people (especially home businesses) this kind of start up pain would be unacceptable.

Ordered service through a retailer, Rogers technician came in 7 days as scheduled and modem installation was quick. A problem came up when the Rogers loading page was still showing the day after modem install, and finding out from TSI support the modem info on TSI record didn't match the modem from the retailer. TSI sent a ticket to Rogers to get the modem provisioned correctly.
The infamous 24-48 h wait time between tickets panned out to 6 days to get the problem sorted, including waiting over a long weekend (TSI mentioned none of the tickets sent had been processed so the Rogers' staff may be away), and calling daily until TSI Escalations expedited the issue with Rogers after the weekend.
All was well once the connection was up and running.
Pro: Technical support was friendly, it appears that they did what they could under the circumstances, so my thanks to the TSI teams. Terrific rates compared to competitors -- e.g. 300 GB (TSI) vs. 60 GB cap (Rogers) on a 10mbps connection, the choice is clear.
Con: The wait time of 24-48 h between tickets. There may be extenuating circumstances, but most customers aren't aware/don't care and it can reflect poorly on TSI.

I have been waiting for TSI cable internet to come to Ottawa for months. I signed up as soon as I could, Feb 15. Sign up online was fast and the purchased modem came within a couple of days. I selected Feb 22, 23 or 24 for cable visit. After not hearing back from TSI, I called to check on what was happening. They said they couldn't do anything but email Rogers and wait for response. I call a few more times and got the same answer. I did post to the direct forum here and got a response that things were in progress. I finally got connected on March 2 and everything is going well. I have the advertised speeds and the connection seems reliable.

Just got hooked up with Teksavvy cable few weeks ago, and coming from Teksavvy DSL the switch was worth it. Way faster speeds (good thing my neighborhood isn't congested...yet haha).
The install went good technician came at the desired time and installed the cable (he cut out the cable tv i had but only lost it for a day so not so bad). Install went fine and was up and running in now time.
Ping times were good as was speeds.
Nothing but good to say keep up the good work Teksavvy!
