I signed up as soon as Cable was available in Ottawa. After a little confusion with my address (by Rogers) my service was installed and was running smoothly within minutes. Speeds have been super fast so far. member for 13 years, 107 visits, last login: 11.2 years ago lodged 12.8 years ago
I'm living in an area with not DSL service, Rogers was the only viable option for internet, until Teksavvy opened up St Laurent POI. So we called Teksavvy a month ahead to inquire about the procedure of moving to Teksavvy's Cable internet. We were told to cancel with Rogers, and sign up with Teksavvy 7 days in advance of the cancellation date. We did as told. But when we called to sign up, Teksavvy just put on an order hold on St Laurent POI. The agent on the line could only suggest of canceling the cancellation order with Rogers. That's not what we were looking for. I complained about it on the Direct forum. TSI Martin made some arrangements and our installation was done two days after Rogers' cancellation. Rogers' contractor came out twice to disconnect the wire after our transition. Both times my wife was at home and told the tech about TPIA. Two weeks in now, I'm very happy with the services. I just hope that Teksavvy can improve the way they handle orders and transition. member for 20.4 years, 838 visits, last login: 4.4 years ago lodged 12.8 years ago
Despite being 3rd party BLOS Rogers out of the water IF YOU CAN GET IT DO IT SPEED IS FRIGGIN AMAZING like Rogers was when i signed up for @home on of the 1st in 2000 to be on it after that it was down hill but Teksavvy ROCKS . MY ONLY COMPLAINT IS I WISH THERE WAS MORE UPLOAD SPEED as all gamers can attest to member for 22.4 years, 331 visits, last login: 2.3 years ago updated 12.8 years ago
I was initially iffy about getting cable Internet, due to my previous reliability issues with it. Fortunately, the Robbers contractor who did the install did something that 15-20 previous contractors didn't bother to do - fix my intermittent connectivity issue (caused by lack of grounding and lack of a proper box). I'm currently with the Extreme package ($42.95+HST for 15/1/300). It was initially capped at 200GB, but we got a freebie 100GB increase. I'm getting what I'm paying for, so no complaints in that department. Speed Boost also works on the cheaper 51xx MDM. The only issues I ever had with their service were caused by Robbers techs (one no-show and once they disconnected my cable Internet service when they were only supposed to disconnect cable TV). It looks like a pretty standard thing they do to discourage cord-cutting. They were very slow to reconnect it. Unlike some competitors, they have pretty solid backhauls, so I haven't experienced any slowdowns that I've heard complaints about. Their tech support has become pretty slow to respond, but fortunately, with cable, you won't really need to use it once you're up and running. Once the service is up and running and you keep the Robbers techs away from the premises (unless CLOSELY supervised), you'll be getting superb service. member for 14 years, 4231 visits, last login: 16 days ago lodged 12.8 years ago
Had TekSavvy DSL, however the 5Mbps wasn't cutting it. When I heard that TekSavvy Cable became available in Markham, I jumped on it. Ordered the Extreme Cable package, and am quite happy. One thing to note, the web order form is a bit confusing but apparently they're working on it. Got the SB6120 and am happy with it. Confirmation of install date\time was a bit slow to receive, but then that's Rogers' fault. Had a small hiccup after the install was done, as apparently all the IP renewing I was doing was abusive and was blocked for about an hour or so. Overall: Excellent! To be honest I had known about Teksavvy for about 4 years now but I never got around to switching to them. This is because Rogers kept offering me promo after promo to stay with them. After a while I realized I needed more bandwidth and that Teksavvy's prices were just unbeatable by Rogers. I considered 3Web/Distributel/Acanac etc but a previous bad experience with Acanac ~10 years ago made me look away from them and the rest were just not what I was looking for in terms of reliability. Teksavvy has such great reviews around here that I thought I might as well give them a try. I got the 15/1 package with 300gb of bandwidth. I strongly suspect I will need to upgrade to the unlimited though as my router shows 90gb of usage in ~1 week. I will probably do that next month. I did everything through their website. Although their website seems a bit weird to deal with, it's pretty straight forward once you get over their 1995 design (seriously that needs to be updated). Never talked to them on the phone once and had a Rogers tech come in a week later to activate me. The modem I bought from them got here in 2 days or so - highly recommend the Motorola SB6120 that I got as it worked immediately and because of its DOCIS 3 capabilities, will work with any speed upgrades that come in the future. My recommendation if you are switching from Rogers as I was is to overlap the services. Currently, I still have both Rogers and Teksavvy as I was set up on May 5th, 2011 and working on Teksavvy ever since but the Rogers service will only end on May 25th, 2011. I did this to avoid any other issues that may arise and make sure that I was never without internet. Other than that, I love the feeling of being able to download as much as I want. Like I said, I will probably be upgrading to unlimited starting next month. member for 12.8 years, 112 visits, last login: 10.7 years ago lodged 12.8 years ago
I signed up for TSI Cable warily after reading many horror stories in the forum but the setup couldn't have been easier. I was given a set of dates and times when the Rogers tech would show up and the tech showed up on the first scheduled day and a half hour early to boot. He was in my apartment for a total of 10 minutes to setup a splitter and cable to the modem and left. I was worried about establishing a connection but the modem (SB6120) was up and running 5 mins later. It's been barely two months since I switched from TSI DSL to TSI Cable but the experience so far has been great. I was a Rogers customer many years ago and my memories of them is of frustrating nights because of congestion. I'm extremely happy that I've yet to see any kind of slow down during peak hours. The added bonus of speedboost which temporarily gives me speeds over 30mbps is amazing after living with 5mbit DSL for years. TSI is a rapidly growing company and there will be the occasional hiccup but the majority of us are happy customers as you can see by these reviews. member for 18.4 years, 3137 visits, last login: 1.7 years ago lodged 12.8 years ago
I have been a Rogers Extreme Plus (25Mbps) subscriber since it came out, paying $77 a month for my 125 GB bandwidth. My son who is 13 recently discovered Anime, and Netflix and these two items have killed my cap costing me overages fees. I don't like overage fees. TekSavvy started offering Cable service in my area on April 19th and i signed up on the 21st with an install date of the 29th. Rogers showed up at 8:05 am to check my line and tag my cable with the TPIA tag.. and 1.5 hours later, my Teksavvy modem was lit up. It works and it works fast. It may only be 15mbps, vs the 25Mbps but to be honest, it seems FASTER. There is less latency on the line, web pages load quicker. As it is a new POI I don'thave congestion issues (yet?) but i am sure if they occur they will be addressed in a timely manner. I have had to call Tek a couple of times during the install phase to address some information they required, and they were always quick and responsive. I was never more than the 3rd person in line, and they even offered call back queing which is awesome. I look forward to a great relationship with Tek in the future. I stayed with Rogers since 1995 (Phase 1 Wave beta!!!) and this is a big step for me in cutting that cord.. so.. keep it up Tek! member for 21.6 years, 899 visits, last login: 7.6 years ago updated 12.9 years ago
I switched from TekSavvy's DSL offering to 15/1 Cable and have been running it for three months (at the time of this writing). The original installation was delayed because a fire at the post office held up the modem TekSavvy sent. Obviously, this isn't their fault and the Rogers technician rescheduled for the next day (and both times arrived on time - quite a difference from the Bell Techs I've dealt with). Since installation, I had one minor hiccup because I didn't understand how Cable modems receive their IP addresses, but a quick message to the TekDirect board (here at DSL Reports) had that resolved in about fifiteen minutes. Other than that it's been gloriously uneventful. No congestion or slowdowns (although I don't get to take advantage of the speedboost feature because I'm using QOS for voip). Consistent, reliable speeds at any time of day. Highly recommended. Equipment: Motorola 6120 modem, an old WRT54GL running Tomato, and gigabit ethernet where possible. member for 15.8 years, 376 visits, last login: 2.5 years ago lodged 12.9 years ago
I made the switch from Shaw 15/1 (100GB cap) to Teksavvy 15/1 (300GB cap). Shaw was going to go up to $57/month in a couple months so I decided to switch over and pay $15 less for 200GB more. For the install the tech never showed up. But it didn't matter (other than made me wait at home for 4 hours on a nice day) because my internet switched over anyways with the new modem (my own). The internet started out good but since Teksavvy only had a 100Mbps connection through Shaw it suffered heavily during late evenings (I was getting between 3/1 and 6/1 on speed tests). Now that they have a Gig-E connection through Shaw range from 12/1 (while streaming hockey) to 25/1 (while doing nothing but the speed test. This was Shaw dragging their feet. The biggest annoyance was again, Shaw's end of the deal. About 2 weeks after I was switched over Shaw disconnected me at the building. I guess it's because I'd cancelled their service (only internet, I refused their TV multiple times) and their Retail/Wholesale departments don't talk. This also calls upon a problem with Teksavvy's phone tech support. I had to call them THREE times in one evening because I kept getting disconnected. The wait times can be really bad and either my phone or their phones disconnect a lot. Moral of those stories: if you switch to Teksavvy, be prepared for some hassles for the first little while. Now that everything is stable the internet is GREAT. The guys/girls over in the Teksavvy Direct forums are really helpful and Rocky does a pretty good job of keeping an eye on the forums here too. member for 13.1 years, 161 visits, last login: 10.9 years ago lodged 12.9 years ago |
