$43 per month "Price" "Calling them on a phone" "You willn't find a better service at this price"

Service started off good, consistent speeds, timely waits for tech support, all the things that TS had been complimented for in the online forums. Things have degraded rapidly. Speeds slow to a crawl every evening making something as simple as watching a Youtube clip pointless. Support has had little to offer as to what the problem is even when they have acknowledged a problem. At first they tried to say it was an isolated situation when in fact so many have posted in forums here and in the Direct Forum that the problem is widespread. Anyone considering this ISP at the current time should carefully consider that TekSavvy has grown too fast to meet the expectations of it's existing customer base.
I've used Teksavvy now for awhile, after the initial concerns I'll say that things are working well....getting tech support on the phone can be a nightmare but I've used the direct forum here and it's super fast and very HELPFULL

$54 per month about 7 days "Speed and bandwidth for $, no money for Bell." "Slight price increase, thanks to our beloved CRTC" "I'd take them over robbers any day."
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)

I've been with Teksavvy DSL for 5 years without issue, cable has been the same so far. $54 all-in gets me a more than adequate 24+ mbps and 300GB data per month. Peak slowdowns aren't really an issue for my neighbourhood, nor do I experience it from TSI's end to much extent. I'd estimate I get at least 20mbps, even at the worst times. The majority of time I'm receiving the full rated speed. Have not noticed any downtime in 3 months, which is also good news.
One year update: a couple minor outages, most I didn't even notice. It's been up every time I needed it (e.g. working from home over vpn) and has been consistently fast. My good rating still holds. Especially with a speed increase to 28 for the same money, and potential future speed upgrade (hopefully for same price as well)

$70 per month about 10 days "Cable d/l speed is at full 28mb all the time & is AWESOME! Much better than the dual line MLPPP! Customer service is EXCELLENT!" "Cable u/l speed is less than the old dual line MLPPP. Hopefully this will improve soon." "There's a reason I've been a TSI customer for 5yrs... bottom line is, they're the BEST in the GTA!"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)
|
I've been a Teksavvy DSL customer for about 5 years. Started off with 6mb/800k single line for the first several years. I added another line a couple years ago to get some half decent speeds. Unfortunately, TSI didn't have cable in my area for some time, so the dual line MLPPP was the best I could get without turning to Rogers cable internet. Do I go with Rogers again...yeah right, not in this lifetime!
For the last little while I've been noticing my dual line MLPPP speed had dropped, so I troubleshoot'd my router a bit, not thoroughly because my workload was large and I didn't have the time, so I just lived with it. I did end up calling Teksavvy about the slow speeds in late November and they said they would look into it.
On December 1st I received a call from a TSI csr supervisor named "Chris", who advised me than Bell had disconnect one of my lines back in April and TSI didn't realise it and had they been charging me all this time. It turns out after calculating all of the charges up for the not service, TSI owed me almost $300.
Chris let me know that TSI cable was finally in my area and using my $300 credit, he could set me up on a 28mb/1mb profile with a modem and that I wouldn't have to pay for a couple of months as well! Obviously I agreed... Chris said he would handle everything and follow-up on the situation as it progressed. The good news is I would keep my DSL until everything was to my satisfaction, so there would be no downtime. Throughout the process (the 10 days) Chris called me couple times to relay my accounting/profile changes & conformation.
Well December 10th (d-day - technician installing my cable), I choose to have them come between 8am to 11am. To my surprise, my long time buddy that I've seen doing the Rogers connections in my area, called me at 8:15am and I was all hooked up by 8:25am.
Awesome! The new speed is fantastic 28/1 (20Mbps more than MLPPP), the speed is right on the money! I'm now going to be paying $20+ less per month on my internet, now that I've dropped the dual line MLPPP. Of course later that day I received a call from Chris again, calling to follow-up on the install. All I have to say is that I'm very impressed with his dedication to making sure I was happy. I thought that I was the only one that had customer service like that... which is a long lost trait, most companies these days have abandoned.
Again thanks TSI & Chris for everything, as long as you keep it up the great work, you'll always have a customer for life!

$47 per month about 7 days "High cap with no overage fees (rollover to Unlimited instead), consistent speeds, good support" "reliability" "better than the incumbents overall"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)

There was a stop sell in my area for a long time to prevent excess congestion until they upgraded to more capacity. I signed up within minutes of getting the email saying the stop sell was lifted.
I ordered the 28/1 300GB package. The one downside is there is no way to monitor usage yet. Your only option is to use a router to do so. When usage monitoring does come, I hope they keep the same 2 month average/Unlimited rollover thing instead of charging per GB as this is a huge asset to the service.
I already had Rogers cable TV (but no internet) and for some reason a tech had to come out anyway. The tech himself was kind of confused as to why he was here and had to call his supervisor since he literally had to do nothing except put a plastic tag on the line outside. But besides that, the the tech arrived right in the middle of the 3-hour window (which was communicated by email from teksavvy) and then I had service about an hour after he left.
First impressions were good, my first speed test was almost double my rated speeds because of speed boost and after speed boost stopped my speed was a consistent 28Mbps (around 3.5 MB/sec) at all times of the day. However I was getting intermittent disconnections usually around 5-10 times a day that lasted for around a minute. I posted on the direct forum here and since my cable line stats were close to ideal they figured it was a modem issue. There has been some problems with the new DCM476 that teksavvy and rogers are still trying to resolve. 2 days later I had a DCM475 STAC.02.16 on my doorstep and that seems to have solved all the problems with no disconnections in the 2 days since. There was also no downtime in between switching modems. As soon as my 476 went offline the 475 worked immediately.
I much prefer the forum support over phone support. It's more concise and they treat you like you know what you are talking about and won't make you go through meaningless steps like "is your modem plugged into the wall?" that I have experienced elsewhere.
I just hope upload speed gets upgraded eventually. With Bell now offering 10Mbps you would think Rogers would start to offer at least 4-5Mbps at this price level. The fastest DSL in my area is 6Mbps or else i may have considered that from teksavvy.

$55 per month about 14 days "Decent price, 300 GB cap" "Teething problems, At mercy of infrastructure provider (Rogers)" "Hit and miss - do your research before taking the plunge"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)

Set up on Cable 28/1 package & TekTalk Unlimited - was provisioned separate customer ID's for both my cable Internet service and VOIP service. Pre-paid the Internet service first month & activation only to be told that the customer ID I paid this against was no longer valid. Then proceeded to get e-mails indicating that if I didn't pay my new service would be disconnected. Through CSR calls and call-backs and a lot of back-end system fiddling, the accounts were combined and straightened out but the issue caused my original install date to be pushed back by 7 days (which is a big deal when relocating). To TekSavvy's credit, I was reimbursed 25% of first month's cost for this mix-up.
D3 modem and TekTalk ATA was shipped to the wrong address. Pure luck that I asked my neighbour if they had seen a package on my doorstep - turns out it was delivered to them containing a $110 DCM476 D3 modem and a $80 SPA2102 ATA. This could very well have been stolen but thankfully there are still honest neighbours in the world. Had to reschedule installation through no fault of my own - 7 day provisioning delay.
Upon installation... suffered from severe node congestion (getting ~4-12 Mbps during peak hours). No channel bonding in area at that time. Played havoc with TekTalk system and made for a very slow and unreliable Internet service and unusable VOIP system. [ And yes, QoS to me is more than just a 3 letter acronym ]
3 months later of dealing with this issue, speed issue solved by Rogers node split and 8x4 channel bonding enablement. TekSavvy was unable to help in this matter unfortunately which left the customer in a predicament of having to wait for the infrastructure provider (Rogers) to split the node.
From an availability perspective, the service has been up almost 100% of the time, but the lack of consistency from a connection quality perspective has been a very different experience from my previous rock-solid TekSavvy DSL experience.
To TekSavvy's credit, they do engage the customer through DSLReports and through the DSLReports TekSavvy Direct Support Forum in an attempt to resolve issues however sometimes they are powerless to be able to affect the changes necessary to be able to deliver a consistent reliable Internet service.

$70 per month about 30 days "Cheaper than Videotron, better monthly bandwith limits" "Slightly worse ping than the network it uses (Videotron)"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)
|
Package : Cable 30mbps/2mbps Supplied modem : Thompson DCM475
I called a full 30 days in advance to order because I couldn't do it earlier than that. I had to wait for my Videotron's contract to end. Videotron never confirmed the activation date and I had to contact Teksavvy Tech Support. It took a few days prior to my activation date and finally, on the day of the activation, Videotron answered Teksavvy and confirmed my activation would be on the date I wanted.
My service was activated on the 6th of June 2012. Beside the ping that isn't as good as before, I was able to get the full 30mbps/2mbps speeds I signed up for. Most of the stress that came with the activation was not really Teksavvy's fault but since they were my contact, I put in a neutral score in the review.
Still in my first month and on two occasions the routing broke and many addresses / websites were not connectable. I have too many fingers on one hand to count how many times that happened in the last 7 years with the ISP I just left.
UPDATE - June 27th 2012
Since June 25th evening, speed issues arose in the evening while congestion is not an issue in my small city since Videotron started offering Internet cable in the year 2000. Since Teksavvy is using Videotron I'm not sure what the problem is all of a sudden. I created a thread in the forums and people from different cities in Quebec reported the same issues. I really don't think it's on Videotron's part as no problems were reported by Videotron users and my friends in my city are still getting their full 30mbps when mine dies off.
I'm really not impressed so far and I still don't have a full month of usage done.
UPDATE - June 28th 2012
When there's no routing issues and during off peak hours, everything is good and I don't seem to be sufferering from disconnections. I adjusted my scores to reflect the situation more. The service is stable in the sense that so far my link is not dropping randomly and have a consistent ping (a bit higher than I'd like, though). Therefore, I raised the Services' score but lowered Reliability because of the few hiccups and this new slow down during the evening.
UPDATE - July 23rd 2012
It is now worse than ever. Talking less than 1mbit at night. Multiple people complaining in the thread, no ETA by Teksavvy. Just got my next bill. I'm jumping ship really soon, my patience ran out.
UPDATE - July 26th 2012
Videotron performed the upgrade yesterday and my speed was good yesterday evening. I'll see how it goes in the next weeks and update/adjust my review accordingly. In the future, I hope Teksavvy can order these upgrades in prevention instead of reaction of serious congestion.
UPDATE - September 28th 2012
I can say that the speed was as advertised since the Videotron's upgrade. Even during peak times. The ping is still higher than I'd like but I can live with that since the data limits are more generous. I adjusted the score accordingly. My profile was updated to 3mbps upload speed so that's always nice to see. I will be satisfied as long as everything continue in this direction.
UPDATE - October 5th 2012
We're back with Teksavvy being at over capacity and speeds are dropping steadily in the evening. Not as bad as it was 2 months ago but it is for Montreal and Quebec so it should soon be the same here.
UPDATE - October 21st 2012
The first date passed and the new one is for the 25th. Speed are horrible. I can't even stream 480p youtube videos most of the time.
UPDATE - November 19th 2012
The upgrade finally went on in the last week of October and I've been back to normal since then. A few nights where speed wasn't perfect but could have been because of other factors. Let's just hope this is a not a trend that will plague Quebec cable customers every few months. A 10gb physical link was ordered to speed up the upgrade process which would be software until they reach that 10gb but we didn't see any updates on that installation (or I just didn't see it).

$45 per month about 20 days "Price, decent bandwidth cap and solid speeds at all times" "Needs to rely on Rogers for some t/s" "Good value for money considering the other ISPs out there"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)

I've been with Teksavvy now for about 1.25 years and figured it was time to share my experience. So here goes!
After being with Rogers for 5 years and enduring their abuse through price hikes, ridiculous contracts, crappy bandwidth caps and overage fees, I decided it was time to dump them for good. I had already dumped their home phone service and hadnt looked back. I was a little apprehensive given the support horror stories and the need to rely on Rogers techs to be dispatched and the amount of time it takes. But after reading all the reviews, I decided to give Tek a try anyway. I called in to cancel my Rogers service but waited 2 weeks after that to give Tek a call. The rep said they couldnt provide a setup date less than 30 days, which would mean Id be out of internet service for two weeks! So I decided to sign up online as a new customer with no prior cable internet service, picked my start dates and purchased the DMC475 and the order was put through. Why couldnt the rep have done this? I got my modem in the mail as promised.
On the start date, I got a call from the Rogers tech and asked me to plug in my new modem. He then apparently checked something in the cable room for my condo and said all was good and that I needed to contact Tek support to get the service turned up, which I thought was odd. Anyway, memory is a little fuzzy but the service was up and running eventually and I was back online, getting the speeds promised at all times of the day (I chose the lite package).
A month before my modem warranty was about to expire, I began experiencing random reboots. I didnt want to wait in line on the phone so I posted on the direct support forum. Went through the usual t/s exercise and eventually was escalated to Rogers. Rogers came back and said it was the modem and a Tek support rep called me back and said they were shipping me a new modem (DCM476). I was pleased that they called me to tell me this rather than just update my post in the direct forum. The replacement arrived and I swapped modems and the reboot issue went away. This is the only time I have contacted support so far. I have since upgraded to the 18/.5 tier and the speeds have been rock solid (knock on wood).
My experience has been great so far and I hope it continues. Ive had a couple outages here and there but thats due to Rogers. Im dumping their cable TV service as well but have told them that I have TPIA thru cable and theres a tag on my outlet as well. But knowing Rogers, I expect my connection to be unplugged after the termination date so I may have to contact tech support once more.

Ordered over the phone, sales rep was very knowledgeable and patient. Set the booking date at the soonest available date, a week after. Bought my modem second hand off kijiji. Setup date came along, and as other reviews have stated, the persons managing the line activations (rogers employees) were unreliable and came 2 hours late. However, ever since I got it set up, I've been dealing with faster and more consistent internet connections than Bell ever provided.
I dont know why i didnt make the switch earlier...

$53 per month about 60 days "good so far!!! don't have to worry about data capps!!!" "if you have cable you will be on rogers 2nd tier system" "get it!!!"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection Reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money: (ratings match consensus)

I was with Rogers since 2004 which was ultra reliable after they replaced my modem with a Motorola 3 months in. In 2008 after they introduced there data caps is when there QOS went into the toilet. I am a IT professional and download allot of Linux/MS OS's as well as depend on VPN's. This all started to get throttled big time. My rates also went up steadily. At the end I was paying 72$ for 32 down/1 up and 80 gig cap (funny how speeds and price would go up but my cap would stay the same. This was ridiculous and I didn't want to renegotiate every 6 months with Rogers to keep the price down.
In September 2012, gave my 30 day notice to Rogers to cancel my internet. I Bought a cable modem from a buddy at work that switched to teksavvy DSL. Called up TSI and ordered my package. CSR was polite and I was able to understand her (anybody that has dealt with bell knows what i mean)!!!! Connected the modem when i got home from work on my Rogers disconnection date and boom I have teksavvy internet!!! Painless!!! Note: they will charge an extra $60 startup fee and $100 to buy the modem so first month will be expensive!
Just to note that I did have an internet outage from 15:30 till 17:30 however the CEO of the company is on this site and did post a message about it and what to do after the service was restored (awesome!! lets see the CEO of Rogers do that!). So the corp. guys do care!!
So just to recap....
Rogers: 32meg down / 1 meg up, 80 gig/month down/up limit = $72 after taxes and cable modem rental ($2)
teksavvy: 32 down / 1 up, 300 gig/month down/up limit = $53 after taxes
You do the math
Its worth it just to not worry about the stupid caps!!

28Mbps (at the time of the writing) and 300gb bandwidth says it all. Unlimited is 61$ right now. If you need bandwidth this is the service to get.
