04-05-11 update.

Finally bailed on TinCanTalk last month. TinCanTalk could never resolve their ongoing problems and I didn't see any end in sight. Too bad, since they are really nice people but they got caught in a situation not of their own making. Not sure they can ever recover so I've moved on to Callcentric.

12-02-10 update.

Well, TinCanTalk is up and running, kind of. We've got use of the phone again, but (and it's a big BUT), service in a word, is lousy. Dropped calls, can't connect, hissing, buzzing, and echoing during calls, and sometimes a dead line. We've hung in there w/ these people for some months now hoping service and reliability would improve-it hasn't. Cell phones probably aren't the answer. We live in a rural area and at almost $100.00 a month for two phones from Verizon, way too expensive. So I've started searching for another voip provider. I've also adjusted my ratings to reflect our current situation w/ TinCanTalk.

11-07-10

After researching, and based on internet reviews, we went w/ TinCanTalk. Since we're snow birds, we wanted to port two numbers, Florida and Michigan. No problem porting Florida, but Michigan was a whole different story. CenturyLink stonewalled porting our land line number so we had to get a new number in an adjacent town. Not a real big deal, but we had the same number for over thirty years. And just getting VIOP service here in central Michigan was a hassle. Susan and Jerry @ TinCanTalk (owners of TinCanTalk) worked very diligently to get us service here in Michigan. Sound quality in Florida was good, but Michigan - not so good. Buzzing, echoing and dropped words.

Now, the really bad news. TinCanTalk has been down for two weeks and they're saying it will probably be another week - maybe. Someone hacked into TinCanTalk's wholesale VOIP provider and took everything down. No timetable when that wholesaler will be operational again. Most people don't know, but when you sign up for VOIP service you typically contract with a service reseller, not the actual service provider. TinCanTalk is trying to find another service provider they can afford, hopefully soon. We'll give them another week, then we'll have to seriously consider moving to another VOIP provider, or maybe just cell phones.

You gotta be kidding!

Why would anyone even sign up with a service called Tincan? LOL
