Salesman Andy told me that if I signed a new contract for DSL, they would waive the cancellation penalty on the existing
frame relay circuit. Later, we were billed the cancellation penalty anyway. When I called to complain about this, I was
told by Michelle in the billing department that Andy in the sales department was not authorized to make such an offer.
If I had known of this, I would have delayed the switch from FR to DSL until the end of the existing FR contract.

Otherwise, okay... Installation required two visits. First time, installer from Rhythms couldn't get his router working, and
blamed the Telco (Verizon). Telco sent a tech out the following week who said the line was okay, and blamed Rhythms.
Second Rhythms tech arrived the week after and got it working.
So far (about one month) it continues to work okay!

Vital Statistics:

Business-grade DSL
30-node subnet, static IP addresses.
256k sDSL
$184.99 per month for all of the above on a 36-month contract.

Install went ok. I was notified of all the instal dates. The IW tech came last week, I knew that it wasnt going to go well cause he showed up in a VW bettle with someone he was traing. He seemed to know how to script the router (Netopia R-7100) The tech support person he was assigned to @ Rythms didnt have all his cookies in the jar you could say. They spend 3 hrs here, still wasnt up. The router was right, and my tech @ Eclipse was determined to get me up and running no matter what he had to do, he was convinced it was an RH problem. He ran tests and narrowed things down and figured out it was RH's DS-3 that was down. Im up and working no thanks to Chris hrs of hard work.

Thanks Chris .....

My comapny PrincetonHomeNetworks.com DEMOS DSL for Eclipse and we have had a 256kbps SDSL and its been up for over 278 days with only 2 outages, one was dude to a DNS server going down, line was still up and working though, problem was fixed with in 1hr. The second time was when PSE&G cut a fiber in trenton that goes to NAS (Network Acess Solutions) in VA. Other than that service has been smoothe and bandwidth high.

Well, when the FINALLY got it installed it was great. Part of the problem was the local ineptitude of Covad, so I can't dock them too much for that. Since the install I've had no problems, and on the 2 occasions our power has gone out I received a phone call within 1/2 hour from them telling me they noticed a line drop and had opened a trouble ticket with covad. Pretty nice when tech support calls YOU!

I must say that this is not a dsl review, but more of a
deciding factor in me NOT getting DSL from Eclipse. I have
had service from them for 3 years. In the early days there
support was great, always good connections, never any problems, up till a year ago. I would be disconnected
every 5 minutes....this went on for 4 months and it was'nt
only me. three other people that I know that had eclipse
had the same problem. Eclipse's anwser - 'Check your modem strings'. I got that answer every time I called. Four seperate machines dialing up different POPs all at the same time, all had problems, and it had to be the client side.
To this day things still don't work right. Ive tried 5 differnt modems (I'm a reseller and have some laying around)
ranging from V.90, X2, Kflex.....same sh*t. It would have been nice to get DSL from the same ISP i've had for years
(no change of E-mail address) but seeing the way they refuse to admit problems on their side, I'm scared of how
they would handle tech support for DSL. They would rather ignore the problem then admit one and fix it. Don't go with
Eclipse, nothing but problems. I have signed up with IBS Interactive (Bell Atl has installed the line, Covad comes by on Sept 9th)and hope to review them here once all is set up. So far I'm impressed.

Eclipse took over the Data Place service in my area. The only reason I stuck with the Data Place is that they were Cheap( $12 a month ). The tech support was close to non-exsistent. Now that Eclipse has taken over, the rates have jumped to 19.99 a month. The flunkies at tech support offer support like is the modem plugged in when they were told it was an internal modem( ?? ). And the connections are the worst. I seem to run into weeks where a connection will last no longer than 10 min. I have to constantly call back. Then there are the times where the system forgets me and will not let me login (5 min. to two days ). Overall for 12 bucks I could handle the problems. For twenty the service is just plain garbage.
