400mhz Plant!

I went and looked up this cable company in FCC COALS, it looks like they are still running a 400mhz plant - an antique of the Cable world. That was high-tech circa 1986...no wonder they cant figure out how to cram digital HDTV + analog SD + digital SD + HSI onto that plant, its physically impossible. I bet the HSI is still DOCSIS2.0 (possibly D1.0!) as the max speed is below 10mbps.

If they want to keep the same old 400mhz plant but provide modern service the best idea would be to use every channel for DOCSIS3.0 and deliver TV over IP.

I realize small cable companies are not exactly plush with cash but they really should consider upgrading the network with used 750mhz gear that is on the market. Comcast is retiring their first-gen DOCSIS3.0 Arris C4 CMTS units and that would be a great opportunity for this MSO to upgrade to something resembling 21st century tech, even if they keep the 400mhz plant as-is.
