A Skyweb salesman came by the house to let us know that they'd just put up 3 new towers in the area. He talked to my wife and left a brochure, detailing their plans. They currently provide 1.5mb/512kb for $29.95 and 3mb/1mb for $39.95; apparently they'll be hooking up a fiber node to one of the towers within the next couple of months, at which time they'll offer a 5mb/2mb package for $59.95 and also a 10mb package (undisclosed upstream and monthly price). After due consideration and a little research, we took the plunge and ordered the $40 package. I called the salesman on a Tuesday, and the installer came two days later to hook us up. The installation took about 2 hours (we also had him install a DirectTV dish, to replace our Dish Network equipment - Skyweb offers discounted bundles with both satellite providers). Since the installation, the connection has been rock solid, barring a few hours of frustration with dropped connections, which turned out to be the fault of an old router that I had dusted off to put into service with our new internet; once I replaced the router, everything cleared up. The connection has been holding steady since then. I can say that their technical support team was responsive and helpful during the router fiasco, and that's promising. We've only had the service for about a week, but so far so good - we'll see how it performs over the long haul. We're averaging 2.5mb/.8mb, with occasional dips down to 1.5mb/.7mb - still fast enough for Netflix, so the family has no complaints. Latency seems to be hovering in the mid 70's, with occasional spikes to 130ms or so - not a deal-breaker when you've been on cellular for years. All in all, a good service, at least as far as I can say... Time will tell.
