I have been trying to close an account with them on a facility we no longer use for over one year. They are totally non-responsive and every step in the process is mind-numbingly slow. I can't see how they can stay in business with customer service like this.

How to disconnect..

Why don't you just send them a certified written notice of non-renewal, unplug the connection, and stop paying the bill?

Of course this assumes that you know your current contract end date. For me, it's written on my monthly bill.

My company has several accounts with XO for various sites and there's always drama whenever a line goes down or whenever we order a new line of service with them. They have proven to be unreliable with installs of new service as I've ordered service 90+ days in advance and 2 days before the day of opening a new location I still didn't have any service. There was one case where we were opening on a Monday and XO only was able to get service in the location the Friday before - I was at the site 10pm on Friday night waiting on the tech to finally come install the router!!!!!!! Lines have gone down and they've taken days to finally get someone to install it. It's so bad that I know someone in the LEC who I would call directly to escalate XO's trouble tickets because they have no power in escalating them....sad case of affairs folks! I'm done with them like Tina was done with Ike Turner!

A new carrier perhaps?

I'm curious if you've selected a new carrier to replace XO? If so, who did you choose and what about them made you feel comfortable with the switch?

If not, maybe I can help. I work with a carrier in your footprint and specifically work with a lot of accounts who have gone through your type of situation.

Best of luck!

I would look into Cogent. If you are in one of their LIT buildings it's a no brainer.

Re: A new carrier perhaps?

I would agree with pmyke01. Cogent's service in an on-net office we have in Chicago has been very solid. No downtime in the first 5 months and 100/100 for under 1k a month with a 1 year commitment.

My company was referred to XO Communication. They were to switch over in
January 2010. The day of the switch over they(XO Comm) found out they
installed the

Wrong equipment. My company then said no way let's cancel iof they can't
even get an install right. XO Communication brought in the closers but,
failed to convince

Our company that it would be a good fit. Then the hard line started and the
threats. They continued to bill our company to this day and turned us over
to collections

Even when their installer testified to our attorney that XO Communications
never installed in our location. We have a law suit with them and have filed
a complaint with

The Public Utilities Commission but, they have jacked our bill up to over
$10,000 and we have never had their service. Do Not Sign anything with them
before they install

And it is verified good. These people are X-Car Salesmen. It is
unbelievable the way we have been treated and there installer says, There
are many more like us.

I started to do a simple transaction for my boss on all 3 of his accounts -
which took 11 hours to complete - this was on Friday. I was transferred to
so many people put on hold for HOURS - until it was finally completed. I
made my complaint to my boss and advised him that XO Communication was not
good for him to keep and recommended that he switch.

Today being Wednesday just a few days past Friday I called back to ask one
question for him - how do you change the auto attendant - and guess what it
has been (so far) 3 hours and I'm still trying to find the answer out. I
have been transferred to so many people put on hold so much.

I would NOT recommend XO communication TO ANYONE not even my WORST enemy -
your customer service SUCKS and your employee's knowledge SUCKS - they don't
know how to do anything. I'm surprise you are still in business - but I
plan on passing the word to SEVERAL PEOPLE I KNOW

Once the bugs are worked out, it works.
Mind-boggling bad communication within organization.

Our SF branch office was using XO DSL service (avoid doing this, as their entire service organization doesn't seem to have access to info from the group that provides DSL service, making support calls a major pain) and upgraded to a triple-bonded T1 line.

They botched the timing of that migration, despite 3-4 weeks of forewarning, making my cross-country flight to complete the process a near-waste of time.

Then we upgraded that line AGAIN to 10mb copper and they made routing changes on their network, prior to our scheduled swap-over, that killed the office's connection for 1/2 a business day (this despite my threatening bodily harm to them should there be any trouble similar to our similar migration).

Tech support is utterly ineffective - *I'VE* had to prove to *THEM* that it was their systems at fault. Completely not worth the headache.

We had XO Communications for voice & data at our hotel when we purchased the hotel. We contacted XO Communications to cancel because their service was horrible. Calls would keep dropping and annoys our guests. Data portion -internet is very very slow. We found other reliable companies who would provide much better service and more data service with much faster internet for HALF price. But XO Communications would not let us cancel because they are saying that contract renewal is automatic for 3 years term which they did not notify us at all via letter or certified mail. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY. DO NOT SIGN LONG TERM AGREEMENT WITH THIS COMPANY.

XO Communications- The new #1 Service Provider!

I have to strongly disagree. We used XO Communications for our hotel and anytime we had an issue, they promptly attended to and resolved it. We are extremely pleased with our service from XO Communications especially since when problems do arise, we are able to communicate with a live person and not computer answering devices(very hard to find at other MAJOR telephone providers). Also, they quickly resolve any issues, which are few, and do not give us a minimum wait time of 48 hours, like MANY other companies. We are proud to be an XO Communications customer! Jersey Location

Just buy the stock already, its still undervalued. Trying to lower the price by posting fake reports is just silly.

I went with XO communication for 3 year contract, 2 t1 line with 17 phone line for about 900 dollar. The first year was no problem at all. The 2nd year, we received a call from XO communication regarding our billing was behind and while we researching the invoice, we were cut off within 30 minute. Lost all internet connection and all phone call. We called XO right away and paid the payment it turns out that it was their internal issues that our auto payment which was submitted 2 month ago did not kicked in. BUT ... THEY WERE NOT ABLE to TURN THE SERVICE BACK ON UNTIL NEXT DAY, EVEN THOUGHT IT WAS THEIR FAULT AND THE PAYMENT WE PAID. Few Month later our internet and phone line went down again, this time was for 1 whole day and we got reimbursted for just that one day of service of about 30 dollar!! The problem come last week, their internet and phone went down for 1 WHOLE WEEK, and we have lost over 1/2 million of sales due to this downtime and now all the accounting admin need to work overtime to catch up with the paperwork since we were with phone, can't get any new order and without internet can't log onto our server in the HQ.

Bottom Line DON'T TRY them!!!! You will lose more money than what you save!!!

I can prove all this with the credit of the 7 day down time they will be giving me which is 7 /30 days bill!!

I used to be happy with Alligience (now XO's) service, although they raised my rates between the time I signed the contract and when service started. This was per a tariff filed but not approved before I signed the contract. Bummer.

My real problems started when the contract was about to expire and I wanted to move our company to Telepacific to take advantage of their higher shared T1 transfer rates. DSL is really slow in our business area. I know in our contract with XO, it says that if we do not give 30 day notice before the end of the contract, then the contract will renew automatically for two years. I have wisened up and before signing a contract with Telepacific, that they modify the contract for a month to month term after our initial contract expiration. They readily agreed and did it.

I started calling XO two months before our contract expired to cancel. The cancellation was not completed properly, and over several calls, the agents looked up the info and re-entered the cancellation order and told me that it would take up to 30 days for the cancellation to show up in the billing. Also I was told to give the cancellation order number to collections if they ever called.

Six months later, the service is cancelled, but a second collections agency wants me to pay a ->$12K- cancellation charge. Of course I dispute it, and call XO twice, and every time the information is supposed to go to an 'analyst' and I 'will get a call back within a week'. I never get a call back from anyone at XO about the bill. The collections agency person gets me a reduced total which she tries again to collect from me. When I ask for paperwork, she claims she hasn't ever tried to collect funds from me, and basically knows nothing. .

The whole situation is a mess, and I would sue XO but they'll probably go bankrupt by the time a court case goes through. I guess I'll just have to buy their remains at auction.

Ladies and Gentlemen....

...mark this down as a red-letter day - XO has a happy customer!

Sorry, couldn't resist. As a former slave employee to an XO multiple t1 customer, I had nothing but frustration with these guys. Tech support always blamed the telco for all problems, equipment provided was the cheapest they could get, outages took DAYS to correct - all to save $100 off the cost of a t1 with the local telco. I wouldn't use these guys for a 512/256 DSL line, much less a mission critical business connection, but if they work for you, Congrats! Hope you continue to have good results with them.

Just my 2 pence worth....
