Value for money:

After 5 years with Zhonka and their previous incarnation I sense the end is near(for me anyways). I currently have the Silver Service with 5 static IPs for $24. Since I run 10 PCs and a gaming console I decided to make a change from running a private subnet along with the public IPs provided. So on Weds 4/21/04 I asked to be changed to the Gold Service with up to 13 static IPS for $40. Two days later the response I got was that I could use the Nat/DHCP capabilities of the Actiontec modem. I appreciate Zhonka wants to save me money and provide tech info to the lowest common demoninator. I responded to Zhonka with my justifications for wanting increased IP allocation and that as a technical professional I have an understanding of the options of NAT/DHCP. I also pointed out that with 5 static IP address it would be kind of pointless to do that on the Actiontec modem and that I already do it with a Linksys router downstream.

The response to that was a terse reply that "OK, We'll assign you some additional address space and upgrade your account to Gold DSL. It will not be before Tuesday probably, so please be patient."

So I patiently wait, and wait and by Thursday 4/29 still no action or email from Zhonka. Sent them an email that evening asking if it would be impatient of me to ask where we are on this.

So here I am Sunday afternoon 5/2/04, 11 days after I make the request and still nothing. Sent them another email asking them the following:

"I'm a little perplexed at the lack of action or response from you on this request. I get the impression you are dragging your feet and are incapable or unwilling to provide the service you advertise. I find it hard to believe that provisioning IP address space is such an onerous task that it would take over 10 days to complete the task. I have been a loyal customer of OlyWa and Zhonka for a long time. Now your inaction has me wanting to consider other options. So what's it going to be? Are you going to deliver or shall I start looking elsewhere for quality customer service?"

Anyhow, I'm not holding my breath. My guess is I'll be moving on since it doesn't appear that even longtime customers hold much weight for Zhonka.

So here's the response I get on Monday 5/3/04:

"We are not blowing you off, getting address space from ARIN (the registrar) is a complicated process. We must justify our address use when getting additional IP space, and we currently do not enough unbroken address space in any blocks that would work for your account. The Actiontec modems will not recognize addressees in subnets on from the un-subnetted class "C" address that your space is in, and our servers reside in the only block space we currently have that would meet your requirement, thus making your

account unusable if assigned (DNS, MAIL, etc). We are currently in the

process of getting additional space, as well as changing our internal network addressing to better accomodate a large block assignment, such as yours, over a DSL circuit with Actiontec.

Please be patient, as I will try to get to your request as soon as possible, likely this week."

Apparently last Tuesday now means whenever they get around to it. I guess they advertise something they don't actually have but have to get elsewhere. Hmm, the weather seems to be changing in the Puget Sound. Is it drizzling outside?

    More later? We'll see.

    5/5/04

So i respond to them on 5/3/04:

"A little communication goes a long way. A little common courtesy goes farther. All you had to do was let me know last Tuesday or at least replied to my email Thursday as to the status."

Then lo and behold, at about 12:05am 5/5/04, I lose all internet access. So I call the non existent tech support line and leave a thank you very much message for cutting me off and follow it up with a call to Qwest. Qwest finds nothing wrong on the line. I file a strong complaint against these LAMFOs and wouldn't you know it my access comes back a half hour later.

I'm done with these craniorectaly impared people and I'm moving on as soon as I get up in the morning. Take your money elsewere folks, these people don't have a clue. Its no wonder they sold out Olywa.net. They have no business sense. I got that vibe 5 years ago and ignored it, I won't ignore it now. Ciao Jay and Dave, get a savy business partner if you want to succeed.
