I was very happy, overall, with Giant Technologies FastBizDSL self-install deal. I was one of the sorry bastards that got dumped when AT&T bought Northpoint. My ISP, Telocity, tried to reorder me a line with Covad. Before I got NP I had originally ordered Covad - they didn't show up on my final install date (after I took a day off from work for it) and, after numerous phonecalls over a couple of days, decided that I was too far from the CO to get their ADSL service. Great. This time, at least, they said right away that they couldn't help me. I'm 16,700 feet from the CO (per BS, CV, and NP). Northpoint got me 416/416k SDSL but assured me that I couldn't upgrade (I wasn't surprised). It worked fine until they died.
I ordered FastBizDSL on April 3 and was given a line activation date of April 9. I called on April 9 to check status and my line was, in fact, ready as promised. My self install kit shipped the same day. I received it on April 11 and installed with no problems. My initial speed upon logging on was 1.1mbps down and 213k up. Wow! That's more than twice as fast down than Northpoint, and for $20 less a month. I'd like the higher upstream speed, but I can live with it. Tweaking the connection produced 1.3mbps down and the same 213k up.
I didn't think I could get that kind of speed from almost 17k feet away.
One of the best things about the install was not having to use PPPoE or PPPoA crap. Plus you get 5 live IP's to use. So far the speed has been good. Some sites are faster due to Giant's great routing. They have multiple backbones to the internet, not just one like most ISPs.
Bottom line - I definitely recommend FastBiz DSL so far. A News server, as some people here have mentioned, would be nice, but everything else has gone flawlessly.

I have used Giant Technologies for the past year and upon NorthPoint having Network Problems (, Giant took the time to work with my organization to make sure that it stayed Net Compatible, while they transitioned my entire network onto its new ADSL System.
Giant can be spoken to on the phone and has excellent call-back times when question arrise.
Installs for the product were very close to the time line we discussed
Cheers - Jim Furst Miami, Florida
