I never thought I would write this review !!!! When PSN went out of business, I rejoiced. I thought no one could be as bad as PSN !! Well, I was wrong.. I was switched over to Telocity and after 4 months of service, I really, really miss PSN.

As bad as PSN was, at least you got consistant line speeds and service. I've had nothing, and I mean absoloutly nothing for the $10 extra I'm paying Telocity.. I get 2 or 3 outages a night, and connections that are slower than 56K anaolog connections. And never mind their routing scheme, it just sucks.

PSN where are you, I miss you, eventhough you stole $300 of my money.

Has anyone heard anything regarding P.S.N and a refund. I already have figured it to be a lost cause but it doesn't hurt to ask. I filed with the AZ Attorney General like a lot of others and got a letter back stating that they were looking into P.S.N' s business practices but thats about it............sure sucks!!!!

UPDATE: 03/07/01 WOW!!!! Road Runner Cable came out the same day I called (yesterday). Great 3000/416 speeds. This is it for me and my free DSL though, I unplugged the modem. This week, I'll call Ameritech to "convert" my SDSL line back to a second voice line. I'm sure Northpoint will have to get involved to unplug me from the DSLAM. As f***ed up as they are and as full as their hands are, I doubt it'll be much of a problem. Then, my guilt will be over and fogotten.

I only wish that PSN would have half as much guilt from defrauding users. Legal action against them should be focused squarely upon the top management, liquidating their assets first, then the whatever is left of the company. After that, of course, should come jail time. I'll stick around dslreports.com though, awesome site!!!

UPDATE: 03/05/01 I'm STILL f***ing here!!! At this point, I guess all the credit should go to Northpoint. Full speed, 24/7. The guilt is getting to me a little bit though. I'm chicken to run web/game/nap servers, so tomorrow I order cable.

UPDATE: 02/05/01 Oh how I wish that I could transfer my working service to someone who has been burned badly by these creeps. My DSL connection continues to roll along as smooth and as fast as ever.

Is it possible that my connection has simply fallen into a place that Northpoint and(or) Ameritech are oblivious to? Or I wonder if my IP is known, but that it is incorrectly registered (ie paid for) by another customer out of my CO- a buisiness perhaps, who bought multiple IP's, but for some reason isn't, or can't use it, AND isn't reporting it. Or IS using it, but for whatever reason, it's working?!?

    Any thoughts anybody????

    FACTS:

    1) I've never been charged a cent for a good six months of service. (a month after signing up I called to get the status, and they had no record of me. Confirmed with billing AND my credit card statement)

    2) Only been down once that I'm aware of, contrary to the "first few days of the month" outages reported before PSN went down.

    3) I'm STILL online. I obviously know that I really have service through Northpoint, my IP and tracerts confirm this.

I consider myself VERY lucky indeed. Thanks PSN, I wouldn't be here without you.

It took 53 days to get service(May 15.2000-July 7.2000). They never call back when they say the would. The scheduled dates slip (probably not their fault), but they don't call back to reschedule.

2.5 weeks later I bought a new (to us) house (July26.2000). I called them immediately because I already knew it would take at least the 4 weeks until we closed to get the service transferred. I also sent them an e-mail specifically detailing the address/phone number of the new house. Well, after calling them several times (and waiting on hold for 50+ minutes each time), I got a hold of them on Aug 8 and I finally found out that they were waiting on more information from me. (Although they didn't tell me, or call me.) I filled them in on the rest of the info, and told them I was moving on Aug 26.

It took several more calls to find out our outside install date of Oct 6. They said it was complete, and I looked when I got home. They didn't install the outside wiring. The inside wiring guy called and said he was at the house and ready to do the install. I told him that the outside wasn't done and to reschedule for Oct 16.

I received a mass e-mail from my sales rep at PSN saying they are no longer taking new orders, so that they can get customer service back on track.

Called PSN. (I use the "dial random extension until you reach a live person" technique.) They said everything was ready and there is a network box on the house. I go home and look. No network box, and no outside wiring. The inside wiring guy calls back. I ask where he is headed. Guess what- PSN ordered the install to the old house (where I already had service).

On Oct 12, I called them, and told them their mistake. They told me that they are not able to process any new orders, and told me to find another ISP. OK. Full Refund is fine with me. I'm going elsewhere.

    Pissed off at PSN
    Steve

Info on the connection when it worked:
    Speed 768k SDSL for $39.95.
Order / install process took a bit longer than I was expecting, but ok.
Move order took 10 weeks to find out they put in the wrong address.
    Equipment: XPeed modem, Static IP.

1st down time 5 days, and it took 2 hours on hold to get a hold of them. They would not troubleshoot until I removed my gateway/firewall. Fine. It took 3 more days before I called them back to see what they were doing about my connection. They didn't do anything. I told them to call NorthPoint and call me back. a couple of days later (the 5th day), it suddenly started working. I called them back to get a credit on my acct. They said that my connection came unplugged, and they don't give credit to no service. Whatever.

    ======================================
Update 01-22-01: Still no refund after calling them over a dozen times. Filed with BBB and PSN refused the mail (from BBB). Filed with American Express (credit card) and will see what happens from that side. Still out $1049.

    ======================================
Update 03-08-01: My credit card company (AMEX) refunded my money. I'm happy.

Update on December 26, 2000: A call to PSN reveals that they have
gone out of business. Apparently, they've filed for bankruptcy.
I guess we need to file as claimants with the bankruptcy court
to get back the balance of our prepaid DSL plans. Yuck.

    ----

Update on January 2, 2001: My DSL line was cut today, even though
I've applied for transfer to Telocity, and the PSN Web pages suggest
that lines will be maintained until January 17th. I'm on hold now to
    Tech Support ...

    ----

Update on January 14, 2001: The PSN toll-free lines are dead, as are
its Web site and mail servers. However, the toll line is still up for
the time being. When you call, there's a message that says that
customer refunds will be handled after the "transition period". So
perhaps those of us who had extended contracts will get something back.
I'm not confident, but we can hope.

I actually used PSN for over 2 years. I was originally an ISDN customer and found that they were pretty relaible, though the speed at times was poor since they had way too many hops from Miami to their servers.

I switched to DSL back in June/July time frame when the special offer was available and really had very few problems with the DSL service here. It has never gone down and been blazingly fast.

I'm rather upset about the no notification about them going out of business. I discovered this when all of a sudden, email became extremely unreliable the first week of January 2001 through PSN, but my connection to my work email flew as usual. I then saw the notification about the savemydsl at www.psn.com and found the stupid letter that Telocity sent. Looked like unsolicted junk mail and is probably why I never looked at it.

I went ahead and signed up for telocity, but based on what I have read, I don't think that was a good move, and so far, my exprience is mirroring what people say about telocity, Eternal hold times, promises not kept etc., and I don't think I will ever get service turned up with them at this rate. I went ahead and bit the bullit and signed up for MSN yesterday 1/13/01 since they also offer DSL in my area through Northpoint, $10 month cheaper than telocity and I guess Monday or Tuesday, fight with telocity to cancel the transfer since I figure by then, my DSL will be dead as a doornail till MSN gets turned up. At least with MSN I have unlimited dial-up in the interim to keep me connected both work and home.

Lifes a Btich and then you die hold true in this case.

    Mike Vidal

UPDATE: SDSL line finally died around March 10th! MSN can't provision so I went with BellSouth.

Prices were a bit high, but what the heck - it's still pretty new. Support was terrible from PSN.net but I didn't really need them with USWest getting my back. Static IP with dial up was nice. Equipment was a SISKO modem and the backend of a Linux firewall I had set up to keep the baddies out.

Can't believe they didn't tell anyone that they were going out of business!!! CUSTOMER SERVICE?!?!

My Experience With PSN is a Head Sore.

I Never gotten anything (email, fax, phone) about my order status. After waiting 3 months, i decided to cancel. Upon Calling, waiting for hours end, i could not have reached them. another 3 months later, i was stilled billed and have not recieved money back. I called my Credit Card to notify them. They gave me this only number to PSN. It was located in Arizona. I live in California. I WOULD RATHER DIE IN 14.4K THAN WAIT FOR PSN.NET.
