03-16-04 ordered service. this was the only thing that i could get after the hell sbc yahoo put me through. think that it is a little pricy but what the heck ill give them a shot. anyways ordered service $50/month plus all the fees and such along with a cayman/netopia router (3341-ent). $99 activation, $168 for the router with a $269 rebate. service term 24months. dynamic ip. pppoe built into router. 384/128 speed... probably will cancel when i move in a couple of months....
03-19-04 had solid dsl sync light on my old router today. kinda suprised me so i called them and asked if my service was active already---nope.
03-23-04 recieved router today. hooked it up and it screwed up my network. had to reset it to the factory defaults and call about configuration. they were helpful on that issue. also had problems with my email through them but that was resolved quickly.
03-25-03 commit date. they swore up and down that the service would be on today and it wasnt. called and asked whats up and they dont know jack @#$%. say that they will look into it though.
03-26-04 they tell me that pacbell still has my old info in the dslam and my config at the CO is all jacked up. also told me that a systems engineer for sbc was out at the CO trying to sort things out. so far no internet or anything and they said i might as well be s.o.l. until monday (today is a friday and the provisioning group dosent work on weekends). dont know whats going to happen now, but i can say the the tech support people know what they are talking about and are not computer illiterit, which is nice. ill post another update when something happens....
03-26-04 15 minutes or so after i first write the review and now the router has screwed up my network again.... i think its a piece of S#@%. maybe thats what the problem has been all along.......
04-04-04 well what do you know... i finally got some service. had it for about two days now and i love it for the most part. very fast connection, expensive though. it turned out that sbc/pacbell really messed up on this one and someone didnt do their job and got fired. all in all im pleased that i finally got service....
04-26-2004 had problems here and there, not much to complain about though.billing dept. is shit. they dont give a rats a$$ about when you get paid and why the payment wasnt sent out until after the 15 of the month. well thats it for now.....ill update again soon.
04-28-2004 all is good so far....
04-29-2004 mailing address that was given to send payments to was incorrect. payment was sent back to me and had to call to get correct address, which they said was the same one that i sent it to the first time and after telling them that it wasnt and then having them do some research the found that they had made an error.
05-01-2004 rebates are beggining to be a hassle. they say that they arnt in the system but it shows that i should have rebates. rebate support center told me that even though i mailed them in about a month ago they can take up to 6-8 weeks to be processed in their system. complete $hit in my opinion. overall kinda good experience so far.
05-02-2004 been having slow speeds and unresolvable dns issues for a while now. some sites come up and some dont. no clue whats going on and they dont know either.

I'm the ITAdmin for a business in Boston, managing a LAN, and we had 144/144 IDSL from Megapath for 3 years, which performed failrly well. Slow, but very stable. It always tested from 112/112 all the way to 125/125, which I feel was reasonable. We were only down once or twice for less than half a day, in those 3 years.
I upgraded the service and chose 768/768 SDSL, and was told that I could get it for $179mnth, & full rebates on the install & router. The new circuit was just that - new, they didnt upgrade the current line.
The IW was scheduled, that went fine from Verizon, didnt even see them. Covad came in on schedule, and did up the router and new jack in 15 minutes. Everything was up and running right away, and the Covad tech was quiet, but nice. I called Megapath before the router install 3 times to ensure Verizon had done their thing and eveythig was still on schedule, and Support had all the info I needed. Also I called throughout the day, and only waited 5 minutes on the phone to Megapath. I felt that it was not a bad wait time, and Support knew what was up.
We didnt want to go down at all for the new circuit, so I called Megapath after the install & testing connectivity to the Web, and asked to change our current RNET over to the new circuit. We did that on the phone, the tech even had to get up and walk over to their Radius server and physically change some values so they were correct.
Everything went smoothly, I received timely emails telling me of my order status, and so far, my only issue is line speed, & the rebate dates.
Testing here, I feel is accurate, if you do it over the course of a week or so, so speed results are based on this Site. EastCoast testing I get 556/481 any time of day, WestCoast I get 320/430, any time of day.
Since our old 144/144 was consistently around 120/120, I am hoping that this line can be up to 600/600 consistently, but I guess Il have to call and see whats up. The rebate dates are based on the promo's they run, and our order was placed on 3/31, but the promo states 4/1 as the cutoff. Apparently the order began processing on 4/1, so logging into the Covad rebate page reslted in being rejected for rebates.
I called Megapath and left a message with the rebate handler. He called and left me a message withing 1 hour, and told me they would change the dates so that I qualify for a rebate as stated, and that I can wait until I get the mail in paperwork.
So, overall, this has been really painless, everything works, and if anyone has any insight to my speed issues, please let me know. The Megapath/boston router is showing as "lossy" today, & NY/NYC Megapath is having issues, so I hope this gets smoothed out soon.
Thanks

I chose Megapath SDSL service because I needed a higher level of service than I would expect from shared ADSL service from providers such as SBC. Megapath had a comprehensive system for setup that made me feel like I was dealing with a company that was on the ball. The quality of service is great when it works. However, on the occasion (fairly rare) when there is a problem, Megapath's service is no better than I would expect if I had $29 service from SBC. I am treated like any other shared ADSL customer. On one occasion, I was unable to reach anyone at Megapath by phone for 24 hours. Their recorded message, when I could reach it, said they were not experiencing any troubles. After having an office off-line for most of a business day, I finally got a reply to an on-line inquiry saying that they had located and resolved a problem. Billing issues have also been problematic. Since my contract with Megapath has expired, I intend to move to a less expensive option that doesn't promise a service level it cannot deliver.

I signed up for a prequalification and installation of broadband with MegaPath Networks. After doing some more research, I decided to go with another company (faster connection for the same price), so I cancelled my scheduled installation.
THEN, I got a bill for $150. I was not told of this cancellation fee in my initial conversation with the company, nor was I told about it when I cancelled the order. When I complained, I was told that I received an email that pointed me to a web site that listed the fee in the Terms and Conditions section.
So, lets see, to learn about this fee I would have to: 1. Open the confirmation email. 2. Read through the 3 screens down to the FINAL PARAGRAPH 3. Then click the Terms and Conditions link. 4. Read through that page of information.
OR, I could have: 1. Clicked on the main web site. 2. Located the About menu. 3. Selected Corporate Policies. 4. Read the Terms and Conditions section.
Why couldnt the company have told me of this fee, or included the information in my confirmation email (and not a link to the information)? It seems a bit deceptive to me.
The other company (Etheric Networks) that I ended up with told me of their cancellation policy when I called, AND sent me an email with their Service Level Agreement and Terms and Conditions clearly stated. Also, they had me up and running in a week (from initial call to working service).

I've been a Megapath Customer for four years now, most of that time on an IDSL line. When I found out that they offered High Speed ADSL in my area, I jumped at the chance. It was 11 days from order to install, about half the time they originally estimated. I went from 144Kbps/144Kbps IDSL to 6016Kbps/618Kbps and the cost of the service actually dropped from $110/month to $60/month. I mean, I am completely blown away. Better, faster service, and nearly half the cost! On my IDSL line I used to count on about 1MB/minute, so I usually stayed away from big downloads, or would schedule them for night time. But with this new service, I downloaded a 1GB file in about 35 minutes! That would have taken nearly 22 hours on my old line. Songs from iTunes that used to take 3-4 minutes each to download now come in under 10 seconds. I can't say enough about how this completely changes the way I use the Internet. My only complaint is that I didn't know about this sooner. I wish Megapath could have told me when this first became available, I would have jumped on it much sooner.
Here are the details of what I ordered:
Ultra ADSL service, 6016Kbps down / 618Kbps up, $59.95/month 2 year contract Netopia Cayman 3341-ENT ADSL router, $169 with a $169 mail-in rebate Installation / Activation fee, $99 5 Static IPs (my own /29) 5 E-mail accounts with 10MB storage each 30MB of web space

The customer service and tech support have been outstanding. We have a full data T1 (1.5M x 1.5M) line that has perfomed well now for 9 months. The outages have been mainly backbone problemes and only one local problem that was resolved within 2 hours.

I have to post this review because you often don't find service as good as what we experienced recently. Actually I have never had communications service this good.
Within the past few weeks we had to move offices. We could not replicate our existing multi-site frame relay network from Sprint in the timeframe required (nor did we want to spend the 10K/mo for it).
I looked into several DSL carriers to setup a Hub & Spoke DSL/VPN solution. After calling on a few firms only to find out they couldn't support all of our sites, I was able to get in touch w/ Megapath. After working through the details of our sites (Chicago, Miami, Dallas, LA, and NY) we determined that Megapath could provide service in all of those locations. (See my "bad side" experience below too).
Now our Megapath solution entailed mostly SDSL connections but also 1 IDSL for one site and a fractional T1 for another due to distance issues. We were also using the Megapath VPN solution to create site-to-site tunnels to our hub site.
I placed the orders on Febrary 9th and we were LIVE with all sites and all VPN's by Friday Febrary 27th. This is truly remarkable. I have to tell you that my sales rep (GregH) was responsive and attentive to details - especially since the entire company was sitting on pins and needles trying to determine if we would be open for business this week. The entire Megapath support team (sales, provisioning, customer support, tech support, etc.) was extremely knowledgable and great to work with.
More importantly - the VPN group - (specifically a guy named JohnV - and for those of you who have delt with him - you know of whom I speak) was unbelievable. John was professional and responsive and put forth more effort in ensuring our provisioning and installation went smooth than I have ever experienced. He assured me we were on the right track with multiple network diagrams. He helped us understand what DNS changes we needed to put in place and how to ensure our firewall config was correct. He helped us configure the firewall remotely. He was just fantastic and I don't say that lightly.
Megapath also gave us fantastic pricing on the DSL/T1 prices and the monthly VPN charge. The rebates made our installation costs next to nothing.
Here is the bad side of my experience. My very first inquiry to Megapath Sales resulted in me leaving a message as opposed to talking to a real person. However I did receive a call back the next day so that wasn't so bad after all. The only other item was that initially I was told that Megapath could not service our Dallas location. I was about to sign on with Covad for that location who had indicated they could service this location. When I told my Megapath sales rep about Covad being able to service it he did some more checking and found that they could service it - his pre-qualification had failed initially because our address had an ampersand (&) in the street address which did not work with the local telco database. When he changed it to the word "and" it worked. These are not such bad items but I wanted to be objective and tell everything about my experience.
If you want the contact info of my sales rep - I'd be happy to provide it - just contact me at t_koers_@_yahoo.com (remove all the underscores) and put DSL question in the subject line and I'd be happy to respond.
Good luck - If you want it to go smootly for your business - go Megapath.

I feel compelled to toss in this review because I honestly didn't know service this GOOD could exist in the helter-skelter broadband world! Note: this was a T-1 installation, not DSL which explains the price. However, MegaPath's organization and response mechanisms seem to be mainly for DSL customers.
Based on working through a couple of billing issues (not their fault), MegaPath Networks seems to treat customers like they were Important Fortune 500 Companies. These folks JUMP!
When you e-mail them, you get assigned an Incident Number and a specific promise as to when you will receive information back (usually VERY quickly). Then they follow up within the promised time period. When I inquired about details of getting a promotional rebate it was treated with the same gravity as if my broadband had gone out: immediately.
When you call them, you get to talk to real persons. If they're on the phone and you leave voice mail, they get back to to you quickly and seem to know what's going on instead of forcing me to re-explain the problem. I was faced with trying to cash three different promotional rebates, each to be redeemed a different way. The MegaPath Networks person patiently worked me through how to apply for the rebates and "went to bat" for me to extend one which had lapsed during my befuddlement.
Having dealt with AT&T and Comcast in the past, I can only say that the different is night and day. The MegaPath organization really seems to have its act together.
One qualification: I'm running a T-1 line. However all MegaPath response mechanisms seem geared to DSL. In two previous experiences in different cities, a full T-1 has taken as long as three months to get installed. I can't give all the credit to MegaPath but this line was up and running 25 days after I ordered it! That's light speed considering MegaPath, Covad and our local dufus phone company have to coordinate.

HIGHLIGHTS Had cable modem for a year with MediaOne, but moved before ATT bought 'em. Had direcPC for a year, and moved again just as dial up lines became too busy. Ordered Covad/Bazillion DSL. After days of attempted start up, cancelled service and returned equipment when SpeakEasy tells me to work with phone company to fix line drop. Happily Began Operating with MegaPath again.
After one year at new location, service was usually good. I had to hound them for nearly nine months to get my rebate. However, last three months (Aug SepOct 03) includes service degradation, speed drop, and intermittants with NTF (No Trouble Found). 30 mins wating for tech support. Final blow was Fri 10/31/3003 when DSL Modem/Router smoked, smelled and quit, one month after 1-yr warranty expires. Replacement cost $300. Decided to cancel service and investigate SBC or Comcast, each offering same or similar, for slightly less per month. Surprised to see SBC represented well on Forums for Tech Suport, so leaning to SBC,which is my wireline provider anyway.

October 2003 I dropped MegapathDSL after modem/router fried and they wanted $300 for a new one. They almost replaced it under warrenty, but too late. I switched to SBCglobal, which took two months to get up and running. I am also using Comcast, which took only 7 days over thanksgiving to get up and running. I plan to compare both services and keep the best.
