When I first signed up with PSN I was thrilled because after 8 months of waiting for BellSouth's FastAccess (they still haven't credited me $149 for my returned DSL modem btw) I was up and running in just under a month.

    But:

    - I ordered 416Kbps SDSL from them; on my members page it says 416Kbps SDSL but when I look at my computer there's an IDSL modem sitting on top which is only 144Kbps.

    - I called their tech support to ask about this (and something else) and it took 1.5 *HOURS* of hold time until I got through to a person. The person was not interested in talking and didn't even know if I was overpaying considering my service was 1/3 the speed of what I ordered.

    - Service has been down for the last 2 weeks. You can't get through to a person at all now ... but there's a helpful message that the service is down for "upgrades" and they don't know when it will be back up. I paid for a full year, but I'm going to attempt to get a 100% refund and go somewhere else because I've been thoroughly dissatisfied with their service.

    Another frustrated PSN customer.

I've been using PSN for approx 4 weeks.
Worked all fine, until last week.

They just stopped service (100% !). They haven't been online since.
    They didn't inform anybody.
We have more users in the subdivision we live, and they all have the same
    problem.

If you call the service line, they tell you they upgrading in order to
    improve performance.
Apparently they disconnected customers throughout the US...UNBELIEVABLE

They still answer the phone, but you are simply put on hold.
If I could I would sue them !

DSL Reports could do a good job, by finding out what is happening.
Wouldn't be surprised if they are Chapter 11 and done with.

As the clock ticks toward my losing a bundle on this due to CLEC woes certain to be unmediated by PSN in any form, I've had three months of rock solid service. If it could last the contracted 12mos, I'd be perfectly happy [550/750] static IP @$40/mo ain't bad.

The one time the service did go out(NOTE: an avid reader of this thread), I thought myself ^&%*^%&^ for good only to actually get PSN Tech Support in 20mins and it ultimately was a local Northpoint problem. I checked Northpoint and damned if it wasn't the case.

THE REBATE. A bunch of fatuous lies and godspeed/bless anybody whose actually gotten theirs... Speakerphone alone isn't enough to endure the hours of smooth jazz!!!

Dunno, guess I'm temporarily lucky but I'm happy with the connection as long as it will last... then I want the rest of my paid contract back$$$... yeah right...

"Dont listen to their sales pitch!!"

Value for money:

PSN.NET - If I were to rate PSN on a scale of 1 - 10 with 1 the worse and
ten the best...... I would give them a clear -20 (minus 20)! Here are my
    reasons:

1- When I signed up the salesman said that they required a contract for 12
months and paid in advance. I paid! They sent me a contract that stated
that I would get a rebate for any referrals I made to PSN. I referred two
friends, and never received a dime. They were supposed to give me a rebate
for the installation and modem. They never paid it to me.

2- Their service is "down" as often as it is up. IOW a 50/50 chance of
getting on line - or staying connected. I have attempted to discuss it
with them and you can NOT call their service technicians as they never
answer. Last week I had my phone on speaker while waiting for them to pick
up and listened to their music on hold - for 90 minutes. One and a half
hours! Finally a young lady answered, and when I told her that I had no
email service she said she had no idea as to why, but would ask someone and
call me back in a few days"...... I wanted to slam the phone down that
moment, but took a few deep breaths first then demanded to talk to a
supervisor. None would talk to me.

3- My friends signed up a few weeks after I did, and paid less per month
than I, and were not asked to sign a contract! The salesman that I worked
with (Ernie Cantu) promised me a rebate for the difference in cost - it
never came. I called him dozens of times and he never takes the call or
calls back. I emailed him and the president and never got an answer.
Finally after calling him time after time, he picked up himself one day and
not the voice mail. I asked him about his promise to rebate my money as
well as the credits for my referrals. He apologized and sent an email to
bookkeeping telling them the deal and requesting the money be sent to me. I
got a copy of his email. I never received a cent. When I finally was
able to speak to their bookkeeping department they said that Ernie didn't
have the authority to promise me any of that and they had no intentions of
    making good those commitments.

4- My new PC has Windows ME - PSN told me they will not support ME. Why -
    They just wont do it!

My suggestions is to any reasonable person who wants DSL to find a reliable
company and that is NOT PSN.NET. They lie, they have no tech support, they
over charge, they have very unreliable service, they are just not nice
    people. Need I say more?

It took months to get this DSL up and running. They promise you high speeds, but all i got was a download rate of 25 kps TOPS! This is the kind of company that takes money from people who cannot get REAL DSL in your area. They'll sell you crappy service and give you NO TECH SUPPORT WHATSOVER! If you try to call Tech Support, you could wait on hold FOR HOURS and then you may be disconnected. The worst of all is now I have NO DSL. Was working for a month (at the crappy speed) then all of a sudden I could not get connected to the internet. Called their main number and they have a recording that says the service is down in multiple states while they try to "improve the service" and there is NO ESTIMATED UPTIME. They took 250 dollars from me which I'm supposed to receive a rebate for...haven't received that yet. I'm told the truth is that they cannot give me DSL anymore because they oversold what they can really handle. In other words, they are thieves out to get your money. watch out!

Willoughby,Lake,OH

I was one of the ones lured in by the $39 a month service and free install. Static IP was a major plus since I work from home on the weekends, and it is easier to FTP from the office. The install was the only thing that went right, only because PSN has nothing to do with that ... thumbs up for NP. A week after the line is installed I get an invoice from PSN claiming that they could not run my credit card and to send them a check for modem+install+first month service. By that time I found this site and promptly gave it to my dog to pee on. I was going to wipe my butt with it, but had serious concerns for my butt.

The service was fine for about 2 weeks giving me around 128k speeds (way below the promised 786) bit then it gets better ... line quality slowly degraded down to about 9k. Unfortunately when I got the DSL I let my buddy borrow my $150 external modem, so I was frantically searching for my old 14.4 (sounds sad but do the math 14 is better than 9) 60% packet loss and 200ms ping times to the first hop. 1400ms ping times to my web server 5 miles away. No responses to phone calls or to 50 page faxes of an entire night of a continuoous ping log.

I ordered a line from Telocity of all people... They had me up and running within 3 weeks. Its worth the extra $10. I still see their disconnected dsl bridge blink every once in awhile. I still havnt seen a rebate check, probably never will, dont really care. Theres this neat little line on a credit card dispute form titled "Product was not delivered or was different than advertised".

If enough people complain to their credit card companies, PSN will loose their merchant account and ability to take money by credit cards. *hint* Not to mention the $25 dispute charge per transaction they get socked with. So yeah, keep trying to charge my credit card every month, instead of not getting my $39, it costs you $64.

Still trying to figure this one out. I signed up with a company called Econnects sometime ago. Due to a Bell Atlantic strike at the time, the whole installation took a very long time. Anyway I'm still waiting for a username and password for the account that seems to be under PSN.NET. However (And stay with me here) Econnects was aquired by Gocentrics.com and their ISP seems to be Telocity, but Exodus owns (for now) the ip range for PSN, which just SUCKS. Their newsgroups says something like "8 users per host" and the 'tech guy' Bernard (who was around for econnects) talks a lot of sheet but gets nothing done. Maybe Bernard doesn't know what co he works for anymore...

So I figure that I'm just lucky to have a existing account with Prodigy to continue having good email/news/webpage service.

Message to all you guys out there, check ALL the companys involved in your DSL connection. Your phone company might not be on strike, Northpoint seems to spend their money wisely, and the company putting all this together may call you back once in awhile ,BUT keep in mind your ISP might just be PSN.NET

This company was great at taking orders, however, once they've got you...they've GOT YOU. They sure got me to the tune of over $400!! My order was never completed due to "no facility," which means that the phoneline into my house was incompatible and that the local telco (Bell Atlantic at the time) had no plans to upgrade it anytime soon. That was on August 1, 2000. I have yet to see a refund.

Need customer assistance? I got a "hotline" number to call (602-999-6632), however, Kerry "I'm not giving you my last name" is not very helpful. I'm guessing that her predecessor, Jessica Lacoursiere, got fed up and, wisely, fled. Jessica had told me that my refund should appear in the next billing cycle...that was on August 1st...it's now December 7th and no refund. To give you the state of affairs at this sham of a company, the above stated number is a cell phone account, so Kerry "I'm not giving you my last name" cannot transfer you anywhere within PSN. Basically, she's paid to pass on complaints to various departments within PSN. Whether or not they actually are doing anything about those complaints is suspect. Don't even bother calling the numbers listed on the site because you'll wait forever, and on the off-chance you do get someone, they will only do for you what the "hotline" person does...log the complaint.

To make matters worse, these thieves went and charged me for a month of service, despite the fact that I had never been connected in the first place!! After four months of this nonsense, I finally got through to billing and spoke to Rochelle "I can't give you my last name." She told me that their credit card system was down and she couldn't do anything about my situation. When pressed for her last name, she admitted that it was against "company policy" to give her last name! I kid you not. I can't believe that they're still in business. Take a look at the bbb report on these characters at »www.phoenix.bbb.org/report.html?···86000913. Knowing what I know now, I thought the report was sort of kind to them.

I'm starting a campaign to cut PSN dsl partnerships wherever I can. I am making multiple phone calls per day to their dsl carrier here in Westchester, New York, Northpoint Communications. I figure that, since I may never see my money, if I can get people to log enough complaints with PSN's local dsl suppliers (Northpoint, Covad, etc...), the suppliers will sever partnerships with them and put them out of commission. Unhappy? Pick up the phone and call the local dsl carrier that they are partnered with in your area. They screwed me (and many of you, I'm sure), I'm going to do my best to screw them right back!!

PSN sucks! All was going good until it stopped working. After calling them and staying on hold for several hours I found out my account was disabled since I was supposedly stealing IPs. Not only was I not stealing IPs, they could not back their claim with evidence. I suggested they come to my house and see I was not stealing IPs, but they said there was no way they were wrong.

Later on, I tried to call PSN to resolve this but after several more hours on hold an incompitant operator picked up the phone. She tried to put me through to several representatives, but I went back on hold and had to wait for another incompitant operator.

After canceling my VISA payment in the beginning of 2000, I just recently got contacted by a representative who expects me to pay the bill and pay other fees like installation and equipment (which were supposed to be free).
