I live in Santa Monica, CA and signed up for Malibu Online DSL
after having problems with another ISP. Roz there was very
helpful and they were one of the few ISP's willing to let me move
my Verizon line over to them (I get billed for the DSL line on my
Verizon phone bill) Others wanted me to cancel the Verizon/GTE
line but by doing so I would have had to pay a penalty (one year
contract). Verizon hooked me up when promised (actually about
12 hours before) and Roz called me a day later to verify that all was
working well (she had given me my three static IP addresses, DNS
and gateway stuff a few days before). Speed was better then my
old ISP (about 300K down, 65K up). Roz said: "that can't be right"
and gave me the GTE level two DSL service toll free number.
I called and as soon as I told them the speeds I was getting and
that Mailbu Online was my ISP the tech said: "Hmmm..let's check
your line and it's provisioning". He took my number and called back
20 minutes later to tell me that my line had been provisioned "way
too slow" by GTE! He said that I would "be happy" when I got
home that evening....Now, I had been trying for MONTHS to get my
old DSL provider to get my speed up and got nothing but excuses.
Sure enough...when I got home the DSL was FLYING....
Now I routinely get throughput in the 70 -100k range on
downloads...and uploads always are over 20k....Speed tests show
my line running 500 -1100K(!) on downloads and always over 120K
on uploads. Ping times are great...with no packet loss. Best of all,
after two months the DSL has never gone down (and it used to go
down all the time before). Frankly, I couldn't be happier...and when
I called them to set up email they did it on the spot. They're a
small company but seem more then willing to go the extra mile to
satisfy...and it's nice to be known there by my first name too!
They cost a few bucks more then the 'bargain basement' guys but
they're worth every penny!
