I like the reliable connections but Verio is way over-priced...especially since their tech support is email, if you are lucky to hear from them at all.

Ordered T1 service from Verio. They are using El Paso Global Networks as the CLEC. SBC is the ILEC.

Excellent pre-install and install coordination. Very responsive engineers.

I had T1 up and running in 15 minutes. Using Netopia 4622 router. Router highly recommended.

After install, I took my router down for a few minutes and immediately got 2 calls from Verio telling me that they got an alert that my router was down and asking whether I needed help.

Awesome customer service for T1.

Hello,

This is UNREAL! Verio was trying to bill me and collect for a SDSL
384/384 business account via NorthPoint on 5.24.01.

Interestingly, I have not HAD SDSL via NorthPoint since 3.25.01!

On top of things, I could not access my business email from 3.25.01 to
4.10.01!!!

This is a business and I could not get my business email!

Verio never notified me, never offered a rebate, never offered to obtain
another high BW service, absolutely NOTHING. I had to call and call
to obtain my email in March and April.

So, today, (May 24, 2001) I complained to Billing at Verio about the fact that they are
charging me for a service that does not exist and in response...

they CANCELLED MY BUSINESS EMAIL, WEBHOSTING AND DIALUP ACCESS!

Now they will NOT let me talk to a supervisor when I call and are also saying I must
talk to Sales to open up a new dialup account!!!

In the interim, my email is bouncing and it's BUSINESS EMAIL!!!

OK. Is this outrageous or what?

Verio is the ISP, SDSL service was ordered on 10/10/00 installed on 12/15/00 at 416 up & down speed and 390kbs is what the line was tested out at from the east coast/west coast. No problems with installation, Netopia R7100c is the router/hub from Northpoint. All IP's are static, service seems to be ok for now.

On 12/21/00 line speed is on the money as far as what Northpoint sayes my line speed should be 416 and the lowest I have received during peek time is 378 down 330 up. So far everything is going great.

On 12/23/00 line speed change was asked for.

On 1/17/01 line was down for 6 hours, from 1:am to 7:am. Tech-Support for SDSL service is not 24/7. Problem was corrected as soon as they came into their offices. Tech support very good and prompt.

On 1/18/01 line speed was changed 1.040Mbps up & down, line will not support 1.544Mbps two far from co to obtain that speed you need to be under 8,000 feet from the co.

On 01/23/01 line speed was downgraded from 1.040Mbps to 784 up & down, line is having problems at 1.040Mbps, down load speeds are fine, upload speed falls down to under 300. Line speed tests out at 735 down 721 up at peek times. Tech support from Verio and Northpoint very good and prompt in this matter.

On 01/24/01 line speed was tested out at 737 down & 730 up from the west coast at 9:15am, from the east coast line tested out at 735 down & 728 up. Northpoint puts my co at 9544ft and Rythms puts it at 13,500ft at that distance it is too far away for 1.544Mbps, 1.048Mbps and the line is very stable at 784Kbps. Line 2 will start testing in a few days. Distance from your co should be calulated from both distance charts and divided by two that will give you a good range of how far your co is and what speed you can get from your line.

On 01/29/01 line speed was upgraded to 1.040Mbps, line tested out at 970 down/952 up from the west coast and 929 down/945 up from the east coast at 7:30am chicago time. Line very stable at this point in time.

On 02/01/01 Northpoint circuit was down from 6:05pm until 7:05am 02/02/01, both lines were down.

On 02/26/01 Northpoint downgraded line speed from 1.040Mbps to 416Kbps, line still having problems also DSLAM in co is also having problems.

On 03/12/01 Northpoint circuit was down from 5:10pm to 7:45pm, both lines were down.

On 03/15/01 Northpoint upgraded line speed from 416Kbps to 1.040Mbps, line tested out at 930Kbps down/945Kbps up east coast server and 945Kbps down/952 up west coast server at 4:00am on 03/16/01 Chicago time. Don't know if DSLAM problems have all been corrected yet. Verio will not be selling DSL service as of 03/31/01 so I have been told.

On 3/28/01 Line still up, but line speed has degraded from 1.040Mbps to 512Kbps Earthlink does not service my co at this point in time.

On 3/29/01 at 6:05pm Chicago time line one Verio/Northpoint line went down never to return, line two UUNet/Northpoint still up for now.

On 3/31/01 All Northpoint SDSL lines are down never to return at 6:00am

SDSL service is great when it works but trying to get Ameritech/Northpoint/Verio (or any ISP/Telco/Clec) to trouble shoot a problem can be a nightmare. It's called pass the buck no one wants to take on the problem, but the bottom line is you are still paying for service that is not doing well at all. For what they charge for business class service is not worth the problems at all. The technoligy is still in it's infantice and must go a long way before it can be offered to business that have T1 lines or who are looking in that direction. This is my DSL tale from start to finish.

I orderd 384k SDSL. Connection was installed in about 35 days. Install guy seemed to know what he was doing but did not leave any information with me.

No DNS info, no IP subnet nothing, router was on but could not use. They also had cancelled installation 2 times and finally just showed up at the door. After tech support finally got the information to me (I thinks its rediculous to do tech support via mail) I was angry to find they only alloted me 6 IPS when I clearly ordered 32. Some good that did me with over 6 machines in the building plus a server. I got the tech support phone number this time. Each time I called them they said my salesman did not submit the order that way and there was nothing they could do. I would contact me salesman and he said he couldn't find the contracts. This garbadge whent on for SEVERAL months. I finally said forget it and called them and told them if they thought I was going to pay for service I did not receive they were crazy. What had happened is my order was submitted as basic service however they were still billing me for the plus full service account. This was a horrible couple of months.

We do not have access to Digital Cable/RoadRunner yet (AT&T), so logged on to DSL Reports to find out if we prequalified. We did, so started researching until we settled on ADSL 768/384 from Verio/Northpoint - they had free modem/install and low cost ($49.95/mo) special. I'll get 1 static IP and already have home network and 6 PC's ready to go.

Everything started out great, the Sales Rep was very knowledgeable and friendly. Email questions to tech support and order status updates have been answered swiftly and accurately. Overall Verio has done a great job through the sales, communications, and install coordination.

My problem is with BellSouth, our local Telco. They cancelled the outside wiring appointment twice with no reason or communications back to NP or Verio. Each time it was another 15 - 20 days waiting for another appointment.

They finally showed up and completed the outside wiring. Not 30 seconds after they contacted NP that it was done, I got a confirmation email that they'll be here next week for inside wiring/install. I will update again after I'm surfin @ light speed....

2/02 - UPDATE: Well, as things go in my life Northpoint never showed for inside wiring/install. Wasted 1/2 day waiting and lost 1/2 day's pay on top. Called NP IW Scheduling to find out that the appointment was actually cancelled yesterday - because they "ran out of DSL modems" and replacements are on backorder until.....? They could have at least sent an email and notified me, I could have worked anyway.

They are now telling me that a shipment of new modems will be in "sometime next week", and I'll get rescheduled after they arrive. It's almost 100 days now, and still going. This is absolutely killing me!

2/08 - UPDATE: Once again, things just keep happening (or not) to me... When I came home from work yesterday, I found a "sorry we missed you" sticker on my front door - from a shipping company. I just knew it had to be my DSL modem. I looked up the airbill on the Internet and sure enough it came from Northpoint. Why couldn't they tell me they shipped it?!? I could have made sure I was home to receive it. Now I have to wait another day for them to stop by - again - and sign for it. I wonder if and when they will reschedule my inside wiring?

2/08 - UPDATE #2: Well, I received my IDSL modem today - notice I said IDSL, not ADSL (what I signed-up for) or SDSL (what they SHOULD have given me if anything, since I'm well within distance of the CO). Immediately called NP support to find out that ISP - Verio - reprovisioned me for IDSL after BS told them our CO doesn't support ADSL back in November. I was never notified of this (tell me why I'm not surprised?!?). The worst thing is that friends down the street have ADSL from BellSouth!!! Anyway, NP tech will be out (supposedly) Monday between 8am - Noon. At this point, I'll believe it when I see it. I guess IDSL @ 144k is better than the 31.2 connections I am currently getting through dial-up ISP.

2/12 - UPDATE: Northpoint tech showed up on time and the inside wiring install took 1-1/2 hours to complete. Yes, another headache - but it's working! My thoughput has been steady at about 128k down/120k up. The tech tells me I should call and complain - I'm only 15,040 ft from the CO and should be getting 416/416 SDSL, not this slower IDSL. I figure I'll check into it later - I'm happy that I can finally talk on the phone and surf the 'Net at the same time!

2/13 - UPDATE: Well, got up this morning and no connectivity - damn! Promptly called Verio tech support. On hold about 5 minutes. They were VERY knowledgable and friendly. Through some troubleshooting, we finally found that I've got a bad CAT 5 cable. While she was going through my account (because I compained about the IDSL thing), tech tells me that I should talk to billing. I'm paying for 784k ADSL and didn't get it. Verio Support also seems confused that I got an IDSL Router (Netopia r3100-I) instead of the DSL Bridge (Netopia 7100) that I was supposed to be shipped. I called Verio billing and they are going to get me straightened out. Overall, I'm happy that I finally got DSL service, but I don't feel that I'm getting what was promised or what I'm paying for.

Sorry for the book!!

Well - Last update on my Verio story. Since I had NorthPoint as my DSL provider, I am left out in the dark. Verio is giving it's NP customers three options:

1. Downgrade to Dial-up (yeah right!)

2. Upgrade to T-1 (only in my dreams!)

3. Find another ISP, your contract is now null and void.

Obviously, I've taken # 3 and already contact Earthlink, who is now servicing my CO. Looks like I qualified for a much higher speed, for the same $$. Good for me!

VERIOS' HANDLING OF THE NORTHPOINT DSL ISSUE IS DISPICABLE AND IRRESPONSIBLE AT THE VERY LEAST! I FEEL I'VE BEEN CHEATED AND CONNED BY A SECOND-RATE HOOD!
VERIO'S LITERALLY THROWING ALL THEIR DSL CUSTOMERS OUT INTO THE STREET!
VERIO WILL NOT ADVISE, RECOMMEND, OR ASSIST IN THE TRANSITION - PERIOD!
VERIO DESERVES A FATE WORSE THAN NORTHPOINTS!
AT LEAST ATT IS SCREWING TOTAL STRANGERS, VERIO IS DOING THE SAME TO IT'S VERY OWN CLIENTS! IT'S NO WONDER THE INDUSTRY IS IN SUCH A SHAMBLES...NO ETHICS!!

WE'RE PAYING THEM FOR DIAL-UP, WEB HOSTING, AND DSL ACCOUNTS.
I TRUSTED THEM AND STAYED LOYAL...THIS IS MY REWARD!

ALL I(WE) ASK IS FOR SOME HELP TO GET TROUGH THIS IT'S NOT LIKE WE'RE

I'M OPEN TO ANY NEW ISP/DSL OPTIONS - GOT INFO?
