Think of every negative associated with AOL: High prices, slow service, ignoramus Indian tech support.
In every respect, Isomedia is the anti-AOL. Their prices are reasonable, the service rocks, and their techs are smart and speak English. Plus, if you have a really hard question, they'll transfer you to their network administrator. Try THAT with AOL! I've been with them for a number of years now and couldn't be happier. -- "Democracy too is a religion, it is the worship of the jackals by the jackasses."

I have an Isomedia account to service my band's website as well as my personal home computer. I have received excellent service from Isomedia; somebody is always there when I have a challenge to work through. It's like I have a personal Isomedia tech guy in my office. Our web site is always up and that means my fan base can access information on upcoming shows and link to our music anytime they want. This is a big deal for an up and coming rock band. Thanks guys for all the support. Check out www.pecosbillmusic.com and listen to our newest hit single "Girlfriends" and let us know what you think!

We recently had ISOMEDIA hook up DSL service in 25 of our Shell convenience stores with amazing speed and accuracy. But before I get into how wonderful ISOMEDIA is, let me explain a little of my prior experiences with the telecommunications industry. Over the past 2 years, I have had to migrate phone services countless times from 7 different phone carriers in 3 states. We operate 54 Shell convenience stores in 3 states. I have had the worst nightmares you could ever imagine. I migrated over 180 phone lines on more than one occasion for the 5 companies we operate. However, I was given a tip by our current phone company on what company to go with for future DSL services. Their tip: ISOMEDIA. ISOMEDIA's entire team has been absolutely phenomenal!!! I cannot emphasis with words alone how wonderful it is to have finally found a company that is truly dedicated to OUR company's success and satisfaction. My initial contact with the knowledgeable, honest, and dependable sales manager was an experience I won't soon forget. The IT department who went above and beyond the call of basic installation (their patience with our IT-challenged managers was so appreciated)- THANK YOU. The Accounts Recievable department who answered all questions promptly without shifting me from one department to another. They never disconnected me or transferred me to the wrong person. The Accounts Receivable department also customized our billing to aid our accounts payable department. What company still believes the customer comes first? ISOMEDIA does. And most of all, after our 25 accounts were set up and functioning, I am still able to contact my sales manager and receive the same outstanding customer service that I did from day one. I honestly cannot express enough how well run this organization is! I have had countless experiences with so many companies and feel that my experience with ISOMEDIA must be made known. I have zero doubts about this company or any of its employees. I would highly recommend ISOMEDIA to anyone considering any services they have to offer. If their price might seem a little higher (which I doubt it will), ask yourself before you choose another provider... do I really want to sacrifice superior quality and customer service for $5.00 a month? ISOMEDIA is a sure thing. I recommend their services with absolutely no reservations.

I enjoy Isomedia DSL service with a dedicated line, they have not had any service outages, and the tech support is friendly and helpful. My DSL is fast and I'm always online, much better than dial up, and because I have a dedicated DSL line instead of cable, I am never slowed by volume, and I am never kicked off. This is important to me because I do a lot of business from this location. I would recommend purchasing the modem rather than renting or else the subscriber receives a separate billing form Qwest for the $5 modem rental, there seems to be no way for Isomedia to include this charge on their monthly billing.

"Favorable pricing, responsive tech support"
"A bunch of little installation problems that add up to not-so-little aggravation"
"The jury's still out"

I was one of GTE's first residential DSL customers and used their service happily with NWLink (later Infinity Internet) for 6 years. Unfortunately the newer Verizon 3M/768k service is not available from them and so I decided to try Isomedia.
I was impressed with Isomedia's pricing and pre-sales service. They processed my order quickly and got me set up with Verizon for activation a week later. The sales person was responsive and kept me informed. I was quite clear about what I wanted: 3M/768k service and a static IP address. The price was to be $59.95 per month plus $5/month for the static IP.
Unfortunately activation has not gone smoothly.
First, an invoice was emailed to me requesting payment of the initial startup charges. This was confusing because the deal I got requires credit card billing and I had given my credit card billing details as a prerequisite for signing up. It was explained to me that the invoice could be taken as just a notification and that my card will in fact be charged within 24 hours.
Second, the initial startup charges included a $60 activation charge that I had been told would be waived. I was told that this will be removed before my card is billed.
Third, my line was misprovisioned and I only have 1.5 Mbit service. At first they were telling me it would be a week (!) until it would be corrected. Eventually they got it set up for 3 days later.
Fourth, my service was configured for dynamic IP (unclear whether all accounts start out this way or whether they misconfigured it). I was told they would correct this within 15 minutes and call me. A half hour later there had been no notification and when I called them I was told that they were unable to find a supervisor to assign the static IP address. Somehow I would up dealing with my sales person instead of the techs and suddenly she said it was fixed and then gave me my IP address. Later in the day they told me the static IP address is not in fact $5/month, it's included in the basic charges.
I must concur with a previous reviewer that they at least present the appearance of being somewhat disorganized internally. Individually, the sales people, techs, etc, are reasonable to deal with and provide good service, but taken as a whole the experience has been more aggravating than it should have been and I am left wondering if the service and billing will actually be done correctly. If they quickly get my line up to the 3Mbit service I am paying for, I suppose I'll be satisfied, but this should have gone much more smoothly.
Also, they have some strange configuration issues. Personal web space is a separate login from email accounts and both are separate from your account management password, meaning that service basics of viewing your bill on-line, accessing your email account, and accessing your web page space are 3 separate logons with 3 separately managed passwords.
And speaking of passwords, they are entirely managed by calling their tech support. There is NO way to manage them on-line. This is not good and I hope Isomedia considers changing this methodology.
Frankly, if I had to choose between them and Infinity, I would take Infinity even if it cost a little more -- they were nearly perfect for me for many years. I'll post an update next week when the kinks in my service with Isomedia are supposed to be ironed out.

I just upgraded to the 3Mb down 768 up package and I am very pleased with Isomedia's tech support and Bill Huggins in sales! they really went the extra mile for me. Verizon said my line could only handle 1.5/384, but I had a splitter installed and with the help of Bill , went for the 3/768 plan.
thanks to the whole Isomedia Team!

We had an "odd" wiring problem in our house and Isomedia and their line carrier, Covad, were very persistent in solving the problem. We now have perfect 1.5 Kbps connection, even though we are over 17,000 from the CO and the house wiring is questionable.

2 years ago my company started a policy of providing broadband access to our employees at their homes. We currently have over 25 connections, all with Isomedia. You can imagine the hassle of managing all of those connections, dealing with billing, technical problems and the like. Isomedia has provided me with excellent service. Billing problems have been addressed in a few hours and the resolution has always been agreeable. Their technical support staff has been very helpful. They have been good at dealing with users that have had problems with their connectivity and have always forwarded to support call to our IT staff if they believe it is a computer related problem.
The sales staff has worked very closely with me to find the best service plan and a reasonable price. Many times they have helped me navigate the circuit providers like Qwest and Version.
Overall I would rank them as an excellent partner in providing connectivity to our home users.
With respect,
Tim Matson, Sr. Systems Engineer

I went on a hunt for a Seattle ISP when I moved here from Minneapolis. I was spoiled by Visi (»Company entry - VISI.com) in Minneapolis, and was looking for a similar level of service here. After being a little disappointed with Speakeasy's (»Company entry - Speakeasy) seeming disinterest and inability to return messages, I decided to opt for ISOMEDIA as being reasonably priced, with salespeople who were interested in what I wanted.
It turned out to be a mistake.
First, the salesperson gets small details of my order wrong. The order won't be set up for 2 weeks, but my dialup account has a 20 hour limit on connect time. I specifically ask for this to be altered for the first month, and there's agreement, but it doesn't happen. Then, when I call again to make it happen, my password is mysteriously altered, and I discover that the tech people and salespeople have access to the plaintext of the passwords.
Finally though, it's all set up, I have a static IP, and my DSL is humming along nicely. Except, about once a month, my modem mysteriously disconnects and doesn't auto-reconnect. I have to go home, unplug the modem, and plug it back in again. I use my computer at home from all over the place. Having it disappear from the net when I'm not at home is a bad thing, and is very upsetting. The tech people seem satisfied that things are OK again after I reboot the modem, but I'm not.
Next, when my mailserver tries to make an SMTP connection to someone else's mailserver, I'm informed that my netblock has been listed with spews (»spews.sorbs.net/html/S3034.html ). Sending support email about this results in no reply at all.
Lastly, when I decide to go with another ISP, I discover that (despite them asking for my credit card # and implying that they would be automatically billing me through it) they accidentally haven't been billing me for the last three months. Then they charge me with all three months at once.
In short, ISOMEDIA seems very uncoordinated internally. I find their connection reliability disappointing after the uptimes of years I had with Visi. It's also quite upsetting that SPEWS has listed them and they haven't done much about it.
I wouldn't recommend them to anybody else, no matter what they wanted the connection for.

I initially ordered service on 5/30/03. It was installed apr. 2 months later. The service is reasonable. I'm on a Covad line with an ATT IP address. Service from Covad/ATT is solid. I cant think of any down time I have had. However I cant access the isomedia news server from a non-isomedia IP range. Not a big deal for me -- I've got google news.
What is bad is the time it takes for me to get a response to any inquiry. Sales let me dangle 6 weeks initially with no contact/updates.
Then Bellsouth upgraded my Remote Terminal out of the blue. I fire off an email that BS had upgraded my RT could we consider upgrading this to SDSL 384/384 since it was about the same dollar amount and I was in a one year contract. I got a response from Isomedia that they'd get back to me -- they'd need to check with covad.
Almost a month later I email again. They check with covad and state that it isnt technically possible that I'm on a remote terminal! I dont mind so much being told "no" but taking a month to get any kind of answers is awful.
So if quick sales/order response are what you need or NNTP on an account not in Isomedia's own coverage area you might wish to look elsewhere.... -- Update 4/21/04
IDSL has turned into a backup connection. Although use has been very lite due to ADSL connection I did notice the sync lite out. I go through the usual troubleshooting then call ISOMedia. After a 5 minutes of troubleshooting we patch covad onto the line. A few more line test and we get a truck roll from bellsouth. The time to repair was less than 24 hours. Not bad at all...
