I've been with 101Freeway for over a year now. I had a little trouble after the initial install, my 768/128 DSL connection was slower than my 56k modem. 101Freeway was quick to troubleshoot the line and discovered the error on the Teleco side and it was quickly resolved. Other than that, the entire order-install process was painless. I called to switch my IP to static instead of dynamic and the changes were made while I was on the phone, very cool. 101Freeway has a small town attitude when it comes to customer service and are willing to help when issues arrise. The only complaints I can list against them are the poor reliability of the Fujitsu modem provided (It will crash if bumped and need to be rebooted, but that really isn't their fault) and the newsgroups servers that they use are rather slow (32k average D/L). To their credit, however, the newsgroup servers do keep approximately 1 weeks worth of articles. This makes it easy to follow threads even if you don't have time each day.

    ***UPDATE***

I've had 101Freeway DSL for several years now. The issue with the unreliable modem has been resolved by mounting it to the side of my desk. They have also resolved the issue with the slow newsgroup server. I am very pleased with their service.

    ***UPDATED 11/13/2002***

Hmm, it's been a while since I updated this review.

I forgot to mention that 101Freeway allows and practically encourages servers (FTP, SMTP, Web, etc..). That is pretty cool since most ISPs won't let you.

Anyhow, because of the issue with the modem going down all the time, 101Freeway switched my DSL from Frame-Relay to ATM in April or May. I upgraded to 1.5m/128k at the same time. The process left me down for almost 3 weeks because Verizon accidentally re-processed my disconnect order the same day the set my line up and I had to wait another 10 days. Once I got my line re-installed, things rolled along ok for a while, but soon new issues developed. Here's a breakdown:

    *   The network will go down completely for hours at a time, but the activity light will come on solid. You will occasionally get a packet to go through, but the network is unusable for hours at a time. Tech support was aware of the issue and believed it was and ARP storm being caused by a user, but they have been unable to locate the issue for several months now. Several people in my company are experiencing the same issue in different parts of town and even in different towns.

    *   The gateway will disappear for a while... Like it will drop 100+ pings in a row, but the data between my PC and the net will make it (sloooowwwly).

    *   The DNS servers will wack out and stop responding. You'll have to hit refresh like 5+ times to get some pages to load.

    *   They started charging some weird tax? $69.95 = $72.40

It's not all bad news, my speed has been great. I'm paying for 1.5/128 and can bench 2.28/384 at times. This is of course when the connection is working at all. I have decided to switch ISPs and placed a disconnect order with 101Freeway. I'll let you know how Speakeasy is doing in my area once my new line comes up sometime next week. I'll post more information about the switch on my website: »www.server2.com.

I ordered their Bronze-plus rated at 768/128 online with one static IP. The modem arrived about 2 weeks later and was easy to hook up once the NICs worked in the PCs.On most tests I get about 708/120 after tweaks. Have only had one small problem when the connection failed and the support didn't answer my voicemails, but this was straightened out about 2 days later and since then it has worked fine. The amzing thing is that someone just answers the phone without any prompts or waiting, and will give good advice. You can also hook up a small LAN with a hub or switch and get 3-4 PCs on one account with one static IP. All I can say is that I don't know what all of the fuss is about since this was truly efffortless.

We have had some later problems with connections, especially in the evening;. I have called 101 and they have directed me to GTE. It turns out GTE has been great in terms of troubleshooting, with a live technician available at all hours, good advice, and upgrades (they sent me a replacement modem). I am still very happy overall with the service.

I can't say how please I am with 101freeway.com. I had PCmagic until they dropped all of their DSL subscribers and left us to find a new ISP. I went with 101freeway.com and experienced the way DSL should be. Anytime of day, 7 days a week I can run a speed test and get between 620 and 680/kbps download with 100 to 121/kbps upload. That's with the 756/128 DSL subscriber plan.

I honestly hope, anyone who's looking to subscribe to DSL do themselves a favor and check out 101freeway.com.

I've been with them for about 4 months. They were the only place that didn't put me on hold. Whether it was for the initial install, or the service question about getting my email account set up, they always pick up the phone and answer your question. They don't try and get you into some long term contract either, its month-to-month.

They set me up with dynamic IP so I could run 3 computers off of the one line. While actually having all 3 surf at once gets slow, on a 786/128 line, that rarely occurs. Only real problem so far came from GTE, but even that was only for a few hours. I don't know all the ins and outs of DSL, but so far I have not noticed any real problems. Give them a try, worst case scenario, you get rid of them ...Remember, there's no long term contract!

After months trying to get GTE to deliver a residential DSL line, I called
101Freeway. They had it installed in a week. I had a question and they
answered it quickly. The DSL service has been great! 101Freeway now hosts
our website and email. I can highly recommend this company. I think you
would be pleased with their quality and service.

    From: Santa Maria, CA
    Contract: $49.90 per month
    Contract: month to month
Plus: They got me DSL from GTE when GTE said it wasn't available. I live
18255ft from the CO according to dslreports.com.
    Minus: None at this time.
Bottom Line: I am extremely happy with 101freeway.com. They allow both of
my computers on line at no additional cost.

When my neighbors tried to sign up for DSL through GTE, they were told it
wasn't available, as we lived too far from the CO. I signed up through
101freeway.com because they said it was available. I expected it not to
work, but to my amazement, I had DSL about a week later. I signed up for
the 768/128 ADSL connection and every time I run the speed test I get above
    713/121. I am very impressed.

Overall I have been very happy with this service and the customer support I
received. I even got a call from 101freeway on July 4th checking to see if
I was happy with my service. The technicians are very knowledgeable, and
always happy to help when I call or email a question. They walked me
through setting up windows 2000 Professional on both computers. It was very
    easy.

I definitely recommend them for DSL service!

When I signed up a few months ago the sales person told me that they were getting ready for a big upgrade of thier service, and since they had the best prices I could find, I decided to sign up.

The first few months were OK. I saw some slowdowns at nights though. I kept waiting for this "big upgrade" but when I asked them about it they told me GTE was holding them up.

Well about three months later they finally did it and I have been flying ever since! It never slows down and I constantly see speeds of about 80-90K.

Overall I have been very happy with their service. The techs are knowledgeable, and always happy to help when I call.

If I had to write this a couple weeks ago it would have been a different story, but now I definately recomend them!

Hehe ok. I signed up with 101freeway because it was a ISP that i picked from random out of the GTE ISP list....

So i signed up.. I went to their webpage (www.101freeway.com) and their ASDL page should have been my first indication of this isp. They give me what i need i guess... not fast... not pretty...and CERTAINLY not professional. (After hours the phone service goes to the owner's house.) THe owner doesnt know much... although hes a nice guy and helpful with the non technical stuff. Cant blame the man when its 10pm i guess... ANyway... Speed is ok..i usually download at like 60-80k (they say its a 784bps downstream and 324bps upstream...somthing like that) and i usually upload around 15k.....The disk quota is kinda small for my e-mail though. I just had a few files on there when i went somewhere for the weekend i came back and i hadn't got mail for a few days...

But id say overall, its ok for the money...even though a static ip would be nice without paying the 5 bucks a month. (the alternate to a static ip is a dynamic one where u cant tunnel) so... my obvious choice was to get the static. They pretty much have the smae plan GTE does for Bronze Plus, but as of right now only go up to Gold, so no 1.5megabits for me

:( Yep so thats 101freeway for u. (oh and one more thing, if u join a room on IRC and they DNS me and it says 101freeway on it they start laughing like crazy...hehe)
