CPL was my dial-up provider before I moved closer to the phone CO. Great dial-up service!
The modem came from Verizon, and was only one day later than estimated.
DSL setup was quick and painless, Vance gets two thumbs up for sales & tech support!
768/128 static IP on ATM, $67/month, Fujitsu Speedport (Verizon supplied)
Overall a very excellent experience, although I was warned that I'll never be able to surf at dial-up speed again...

I signed up nearly two years ago when GTE (now Verizon) would not support NT4. CPL was knowledgable and supportive. Their growing pains are hurting - I've been without newsgroups for over a month and they're still working on a "hardware problem". Until recently, tech support was of the 9-5, Monday-Friday sort and e-mail was *never* answered.

They're staffing up and improving, so while I would not recommend them at this point as I would have a year ago, they may get their white hat back soon. Note that communication is their weak link. For example, they and Verizon instituted a new service (Bronze Plus) to compete with local cable modem. Faster transfer and lower cost - but no one mentioned it to the subscribers.

For the specifics: Order was for Bronze (256/64). Order and install were easy enough after GTE dithered for three months. Home equipment was a PII 400 with NIC. Since have added Linksys BEFSR41. "Modem" was/is an Orckit (from GTE). Dynamic IP but may switch to static to avoid too-frequent (hourly) renewal.

No outages of significance due to CPL; all problems originated with GTE/Verizon. If GTE thought the name change would improve their customers' opinion of their service, they were wrong.

    Again.

    Mike

"Good tech support and reliable service"
"GTE is the DSL provider."

I ordered 384/384 at $89.95/month including ISP and local loop charges. Install went smoothly and tech support has been good. Took about 10 days from order to install. The Fujitsu DSL modem (bridge) has worked reliably tho it does seem to need to be power reset every couple of months.

I have a static IP and CPL has never given me any grief over running Linux or any server services (GTE told me Windows only and no servers). News and Mail is reliable and CPL is secondary fro my DNS. I get a shell account and they have Secure Shell with RSA/DSA authentication.

In a little over a year of service, they have had two major outages that affected my service. One was a fiber cut. The other was GTE fouling up an upgrade of a frame switch.

Recently bandwidth on the DSL line has been a fraction of what I pay for. I suspect that GTE is at fault here.
