"There sales staff tries to be informative and honest"
"they are still too small of a company to handle to the amount of customers they have"
"They will work hard to resolve any conflict that may arise"

I used to work for this company and I am posting this review because i was informed they feel I posted some negative reviews. I just want the public to know that this company honestly tries hard to resolve the issues they have. Especially Mark Drake. Customer satisfaction is really important to him. Like any small company that is growing they are bound to have their problems. Problems however do not get solved if they are unaware of them or if you can't take the time to help resolve them. Their tech support department makes every effort to resolve issues but in a lot of ways their hands are tied because of the red tape they have to go through. I would say that maybe 10% of the dsl customers had problems with their service when I was working there and that's not too bad. I will give everyone this one though. They do need to work on their billing practices and expand the billing office to be able to handle the large amount of clients they do have. My guess is though that in five years they will be as big as most of the major companies that we have now to go through. Good luck to them I hope they suceed.

My sales person is friendly and seems genuinely interested in providing me with good service. I've had a few problems with the account, but I'd use them again.
Significant issues:
1. The throughput on the line is only half of what it should be. Records show the local loop as being on the order of 5,000 feet. Testing says it's more like 17,000. I guess I'm lucky that A + Net was willing to take the chance. I just wish the phone company would whip its copper into shape. Obviously, the slow throughput is not A + Net's fault.
2. It's a 12 month contract in which the customer pays up front for the SpeedStream 5360 and connection bits. At $225 for the self-install kit I guess that's not too bad -- except for the fact that Covad sent me the cobbiest-looking modem I've ever seen. The sucker actually has cigarette burns on the plastic and dents in the aluminum panel!!! (Hint to Covad: If you're going to charge top whack for a refurbished modem, at least replace the case -- especially if it looks like someone has been using it as an ash tray!!!) Again, not really A + Net's fault. I griped about it several times. A + Net apologized and told me that they'd have Covad send me a new modem. They also suspended all bills for monthly service until arrival of the new modem as compensation! After three months I realized that Covad wasn't going to send a modem, and I relented, calling A + Net and telling them to resume billing since they'd obviously more than made up for the cost differential between a cobby, used modem and a new one. It's charming that they were willing to go this far to try to make the transaction satisfactory to the customer.
3. There have been occasional periods of time when e-mail was unavailable for brief periods. That's unacceptable. Because my e-mail service is so important to me, I've had to maintain my dial-up account (with another company).
4. There have been occasional periods of time when the online customer support pages that allow the customer to review / change account details have been unavailable -- and for periods of several days. It hasn't been critical yet, but I would have been really annoyed if I had needed to change an account feature and couldn't do so. (Callling them to accomplish the same thing can be very time-consuming.)
Though it may not be cloud nine, this service is really quite good for the money. Half of their problems with customer service appear to be related to the third parties in the mix. SOP for DSL service. Getting them to take action about something can be a real chore, but I've seen far worse at much higher price points. And, when you finally do get hold of someone, they go the extra mile to make you a happy customer. It would be better if the glitches didn't occur in the first place. My impression is that I'm dealing with good people who are just a bit overwhelmed with some of the complexities on the business side of Internet service provision. I can sympathize with that. At least the connection has been absolutely reliable, and the speed, though slower than I had hoped, beats the living daylights out of my dial-up connection.
I give them 8 out of 10. So far I haven't seen any other DSL (or Cable) providers that I'd rank as highly. And I've had some experience. A + Net is the 13th different service provider with whom I've dealt for DSL service, though they're the first I've dealt with for my own personal residential service. Some of the service providers out there should be garotted with their own red tape!

I've had A+ service for 9 months. I can only compare to Speakeasy, who I had for a year before that.
Upfront, the sales guys was less than warm but competent. I originally went with A+ because only they and speakeasy offered static ips in my area. And I wasn't at all happy with speakeasy, too mass market "If you aren't running Windows 98, we can't help you" for my needs.
Connect speed is mediocre to good. There are faster but not with all the features I wanted. Reliability: good to excellent. Ping times go through the roof for about a half an hour about every week to 10 days but entire fall-offs are rare.
As for tech support at A+, the wait music sucks... but you don't have to listen to it for very long! The folks in DSL tech support are professional, friendly, and competent. Verizon decided I had canceled DSL (I hadn't) and my DSL tech pushed it through so I was reconnected.
For service add-ons, I got my reverse DNS within 2 hours of my request and it cost nothing (Speakeasy wants $10 a month per IP address plus a setup fee). I don't know about their web space because I don't use it. Since I don't use their email or webspace, they cut me a $10 break on the monthly cost instead of sticking me with a package full of features I don't use. Additional IP addresses took about 4 days to get.
These people know what service means. A dying breed.
They will do everything they say the will but if you are insecure after several nightmare horrors, you may want reassurance, a "done" back. You'll know if your DSL is on or not. Other things you might have to call back to verify that it was done. They know they did it; why don't you?
Good but could be better: The website is good but rough. If there's a "current system status" page, I haven't found it. Also the toll-free number for tech support is in fine print, so write it down. But I am grasping for straws here to find points of improvement.
I've never been happier with an ISP.

I started with aplus.net thinking i was getting a good service provider for the money, most of the time my customers can't access my web site's because they
are down, they always have down time do i get credit NO!. It gets better, I was supposed to be charged $34.95, a month but have been getting charged $49.95 for the senior hosting plan, on one of my sites. I have many domain names which i purchased in bulk registration price, but even though i paid for bulk i am getting charged $35.00 a name for two years which is $70.00 per name, when i have two slots of bulk domain registrations open which i purchased for $90.00 for 6 domain names. they not only charged me over and over again for the full fair but charged me over and over for bulk prices also. They also charged me setup fees, which pop up every once in a while. I am in the middle of tring to get my money back for all the other charges and tring to also discontinue domain names i want to not renew some of my domain names but from what i understand they will not let you do that, once you've bought a name no matter when you can not discontinue the name they will renew it even though you want it cancelled, they just charge you with any credit card, or checking account number you've given them over and over again, i am going to report them to the BBB, ofter the next time i talk to them if i do not get my money back and my names renewed that i want and the ones i don't want renewed i want a credit for. this has gone on long enough. thanks

"Installation and sales"
"100ms average to my first hop!!!!"
"I'm switching to Covad for my ISP"
| Pre Sales information: Install Co-ordination: Connection reliability: Tech Support: Services: Value for money:

I ordered from A+Net in late March 2001. I was up and going by April 20th. ADSL 1.5 X 384, static IP with Efficient Networks 5260 modem through Covad via Ameritech. Sales and install went just fine...no complaints.
I really have only one problem with them. They do not seem to have any local access points in my area. I live in a suburb of Chicago and apparently I have to go all the way to San Diego to get out to the internet!!! I had no idea about this when I signed up for their service otherwise I never would have gone with them. As a consequence I average 100ms to my first hop!!!!!
When I called A+Net tech support for the first time in April of 2001 I did not know that this was happening. They just told me that was the best they could do...100ms. I said it was no better then my dial-up account. I admit there was no probem with the down/up load speed (1.5 X 384). But come on....for $80 per month I think the latency should be better then 100ms. I complained more and they finally had Covad reprovision the line. It improved somewhat (80ms), then after a short while went back to about 100ms. I called back and they tried again....same affect. We went round and round on this for about 3 moths. I admit that I don't know all that much about the networking side of things but after using a couple of utillities like NeoTrace Pro, trace route and the tools on DSLReports I had a hunch that somthing was going on. So I called them back and asked them "where am I getting out to the internet...what physical location". The man I was talking to became a little agitated and after some further prompting admitted that "basicly your coming back here". I said where is here and he said "San Diego". From then on every question I asked was answered in a "yes" or "no" fashion. I asked if reprovisioning the line again was going to do any good "no". I asked rhetorically if he was sure that I had to go all the way to San Diego to get out to the internet "yes". I asked if there was anything further they could do for me "no". That was in June of 2001. I tried to cancel the account in July of 2001 but they told me that I would have to pay an early cancellation fee of $350 and other such nonsense. I tried to explain that they did not provide the service that they advertised. I was told that speed was the only measure and that I was receiving what I should. I suppose that is technically correct but apparently they care not for my concerns about latency, usablity and customer satisfaction. In the end, they just made it too much of a hassle to quit. The whole exchange was quite rude in fact!! So I intend to ride out my contract for 3 more weeks and then I will leave. Just thought that they might want to know why they are loosing a customer
As stated before I don't know much about networking but is this technically possible? Can A+Net really have me routed this way? I guess that it does not realy matter any longer. They are unwilling or unable to help me so it leaves me no alternative but to change ISP's. As a warning to others....before you sign up with them ask them if the samething applies to your location. Otherwise what is the point of having all that speed with terrible latency?

I merged over to Covad.net from Flashcom (when they finally gave up the ghost) by using the Covad Safety Net and it has resulted in better performance than I ever had with Flashcom.
I kept the 608/128 speed that I previously had for the same price ($59.95) and I was only down for 2 days during the transition. There were no hitches in the installation of the software and it is working like a charm.
What I like the most is the fact that there is only one hop to the Internet! With Flashcom, I had 4-5 hops. Needless to say, this really helps with gaming a lot!
I have a static IP address, since I am hosting a web server or mail server, this is a big plus.

As of October I am in a billing dispute with A+NET. In October A+NET back charged me $210 and changed added $30/month to my monthly charge for dsl. They claimed I owed $79.95/month from the time my dsl was installed due to their giving me a better service than I requested.
They don't mail you reciepts and I found out by reviewing my credit card bills and complaining to them over the phone.
I was able to have my credit card company reverse the charges by sending in the advertisement, emails to A+NET sales rep, and the original contract which stated dsl service would cost $49.95/month for the length of the contract. Good thing my credit card company has a good billing dispute department.
I have also complained to the Better Business Bureau and will try to get my contract cancelled and the overcharges dropped. I have high hopes as I have kept all my documentation like the advertisement, communications, and reciepts.
They discontinued my service after my credit card company reversed the erroneous charges.

I contacted aplus.net in October 2001 for DSL service. I am in the San Diego area & have heard alot about their services. I see there ads everywhere. I decided I wanted to give my business to a local provider. I gave my sales rep my information to see if I was qualified. He told me I was 8,000 ft. from the CO. This would qualify me for ADSL. I signed for a self install. The kit was sent to me about 3 weeks later. Very easy instructions & aplus tech support was great. I have been online since with no major flaws. I have been bounced around from ISP to ISP in the past but I hope that aplus stays in business forever because they are the best yet.
