"Nightmare to resolve billing problems."

The company cannot deliver as promised, and when you attempt to get (deserved) credit, forget it. I have worked with a number of providers, forget A Plus net, pick another provider if at all possible, or get Cable! This company is a nightmare.

They charged my Amex for the hardware I don't need and did not receive, and getting the credit...needless to say, thank goodness for billing disputes. I also lack any confidence in the sales reps, apparently mine was fired or quit and my original order flubbed.

I have had Covad in the past, Covad is AMAZING! APlus is the worst. I wish I had read all the nightmare reviews before giving them my CC #. For now, I hope this is a good warning to those looking at service, and maybe a DA someplace in San Diego will look into these guys.

Being a DSL user for over 4 years now and having the privaledge of participating with the DSL beta program back in 96 with USWest in the seattle area, I have been a pretty happy user, until I fell on the hands of A+ Net.

Having to get a new DSL line because my current DSL provider went bankrupt.(or should be going out of business anytime soon, Rythms, Telocity.) Couldn't get Qwest to provide the line (for some unknown reason eventhough my upstairs neighbor does), I had to resort to my last option, Covad. After looking at many reviews here on DSL reports and seeing that the only decently rated Covad DSL ISP in my area was A+ Net, I decided to give it a shot. My only problem was with the equipment costs of over $225 bucks so I went on ebay and bought me the exact same equipment for $40 bucks and yes if any of the tech people want to argue with me, I could reconfigure it with my account settings for A+ Net.

Contacted A+ Net sales sometime September and talked to a person by the name of Chris Netherton (I know he was fired, I know my account has been transfered, but nonetheless nothing has changed Adam) where he proceeded to take my information, before agreeing to anything, I informed him that I didn't want the self install kit for $225+ bucks as I already had that exact same dsl modem and he assured me at that time that I wouldn't be getting charged for one. And he also said he'd be sending me my account sales details via email so I could take a closer look and what I'd be getting. 2 weeks later no email. Multiple calls to Sales and finally I had someone by the name of Will send me an attachment with the details of my order.

I get a phone call from my bank telling me that I'd been overdrawn because of a $300+ charge on my bank account by none other than, you guessed it, A+ Net. I call Sales and they tell me call Billing which for some unknown reason (well actually it's pretty well known practice by many dsl companies) wasn't an 800 number. I get an answering machine and I leave a message, decide I'd email them as well. No return calls, no return emails and 2 weeks pass. To save myself the headache, I call my bank and dispute the charge. Problem solved .

Another 2 weeks pass by and multiple calls to sales and billing and still no return calls or answers and all of a sudden, whaddaya know, a DSL kit appears at my door. I even listed on the contract that I signed and sent back to A+ Net that I already had and didn't need a dsl modem. Let's just put it this way, they will promise u the world in terms of service and support and they will pretty much do nothing about it.

With the DSL modem I bought from ebay, I hooked it up to see if I could even get a sync connection with Covad and all looks good, so I know I'm syncing up with the DSLAM, but I'm sure that since I disputed the charge with my bank, that's the reason I can't get up and running, even though I did talk to Adam Zale regarding this matter and he assured me that Billing would contact me to resolve the issue and that "Your DSL line should be up and running now". Hey Adam? Your tech support sucks ass, your billing department sucks even more ass, I don't want any more of this crap. You want my business? Have someone actually call me.

Bottom Line, don't go with them, they will make you run around in circles.

    Update 11/29/01

Finally got some help from someone at aplus.net and amazingly, I'm up and running. So far everything looks good. Mark Drake was extremely helpful and had everyone contact me on time with regards to this issue. Even had a tech guy actually call me and rebuild my connection. All is well so far. Adjusted ratings accordingly. My only problem is the 1st hop out of my router goes all the way down to California eventhough I'm in Seattle, maybe eventually I could talk them into changing my route.

CLEC party: Covad
"Better than expected wait time on getting up and running with DSL"
"Horrible billing, customer service/tech support and poor system to disperse information"
"I wish I had gone somewhere else or that Ricochet didn't go under"
Pre Sales information:

Value for money:

Ordered: 128Kbps up/608kbps down ADSL (testing at 110/517 best speeds)

Original order date goes back to July when Ricochet was being handled locally by Aplus/Abacus. The order was a week before they went under and sales reps assured me that no disruption in service would occur... With $188 paid, I was promised a modem within 5 days. I called - "Delayed a week" they said. Delayed, NOT! Gone completely. I found out by reading the notice on the Ricochet website and ABACUS was still listing the service for sale. I thought that it was a mistake but I suspect now that they wanted money! They have yet to refund me. A lady who's name begins with "S" in the Billing Department and the Billing Department in general were sent multiple e-mails in the last 3 weeks requesting a refund - Not even a response! I've handed the information over to one of those TV Consumer Watch guys to muddy their name if they don't come clean real darn soon.

I was patiently waiting for the wireless service to return to action but could wait no longer... I decided to go with this company's DSL just for stupidity's sake.

I was told COVAD did not need to come to my house but they showed up and went on my roof (scaring my mother-in-law). I was disappointed that the COVAD kit with the modem was shipped by UPS from Kentucky and not locally. It took a week just for that to arrive. Called to let Aplus.net that it was received and to ask for new support links (the e-mail with my order confirmation had a few dead links in it). Called back when their instructions did not refer to all of the proper terms as in my MAC 0S 9. I was given incomplete information by the rep. and the e-mail was also incomplete (more fields to put numbers in than numbers to put in). On my 3rd call I was then told that my account needed to be activated. WHAT??? Of course, my third call was at 6:06 PM and the DSL office closed at 6 PM. Yeah, sure - What a load...

I spoke to a manager that night. She promised everything would be done in the next morning, for me to leave the modem on for a "ping" to be sent to verify the modem's presence. That afternoon, still no service. Called in at 3:21 PM and was on hold until 3:54 PM a woman with an accent in the Support Department, "E," picked up the call, when I mentioned DSL, she wanted to transfer me - I asked her not to because I've already been on hold forever... She said that someone was there to answer my call. You know, these Aplus folks are right up there with Letterman and Leno with their comedy... Another 20+ minutes on hold and a message came on asking that I leave a message... I left one all right. Asking for a manager to call because this was way out of line. Of course I gave my home and cell numbers (I was delayed from picking up my Thanksgiving ham while on hold and had to face the busiest freeway traffic!). No call ever came of that message.

Next day, I called from work and spent another 15 minutes on hold. I asked for a Supervisor who, ultimately gave me all of the necessary information and I went home to get the darn thing working. He admitted that their staff like to transfer quickly when they hear DSL or MAC. He said the account was activated that day.

They need to make amends with me. I doubt it as their reputation was completely fulfilled with how they treated me and I couldn't expect them to do a single thing to soothe my ire. The amount of time lost, the stupidity that they do not give complete information, let alone basic information for my operating system, is unforgiveable in this age. Amateurs. By the way, they use a grading system attributed to DSLReports to show how well they do. Seeing the other reviews, I must wonder if they juiced the numbers a bit.

Maybe the Ricochet payment issue should go to the City Attorney's office... Humm.

"The A+Net Shell Game - Pay attention to what they charge your credit card!"
"Will I ever find a decent DSL provider?"

Value for money:

In Feb. 01, my DSL provider (Flashcom) went out of business. Under a
settlement agreement, I was provided a list of companies that I could
switch to without an interruption in service and a reduced installation
    charge. After conducting some
research, I selected A+Net. I was pleasantly surprise! The switch to
A+ went flawlessly and I was impressed with their sales department,
technical support, and overall customer service. Their monthly charge
of $49.95 was more expensive then my previous provider or other options
available to me (i.e., cable, Verizon), but I was willing to pay a
little extra for what seemed like a good provider. Their service was so
good that I even moved my personal domain name and hosted my personal
web site using WebSolo (their hosting option).

A few days ago, I received my credit card bill and there was a charge
from A+ of $1080!!! I called to see what was going on. The billing
department claimed that when I opened my account, I had requested a
Business DSL line ($168 month) but had been billed at the residential
DSL rate ($49.95 month). So, they were charging me the difference for
Feb.- Oct.!! Needless to say, I was shocked! I sent them a copy of
the original agreement showing what I had contracted for. I ran speed
    tests that proved I did not have a 384/384 line. They did not care;
they said Covad had set me up with a business line and I had to pay the
difference. They did not care that I had never requested a business
line and that I had proof! After much discussion, they told me they
would look into it, but to date, they have not returned any of my
subsequent calls. I disputed the charge with my credit card company. I
get the felling I will be forced to change services since they will not
    live up to their commitment.

I guess A+ has not heard of the law or proper notification! They cannot
bill me for their mistake or make unauthorized charges to my credit
card. I wonder how many people they have done this to that did not
notice bogus charges on their credit card!!!!!!!!!

So, the search goes on - there has to be a good DSL provider out there.

I found this company on DSLR. I've been a superuser of bandwidth for a long time. Had a T1 at work, now have 384K. I got connected first with DSL.net. They stink. Line speeds were consistently less than 384. I was clocking it at an average of 256K. I figure, I pay for 384, I should get at least close to it! Turns out they had oversubscribed the lines and I was getting jammed up. Got tired of it. Finally found Aplus.net. It took awhile to switch over, primarily because of some +IP issue on my plan. Aplus issues a static IP so it turned out to be a bit different. Didn't know a lot about them but have to hand it to them...they stuck with it and got it switched over. Talked to Covad, they said they were sorry it took so long and that the problem was on their end. All in all, a great experience. These guys seem to know what they're doing. Finally. An isp I can deal with.

Currently paying $80 / a month for 768/384 through Aplus.net. In reality i'm only getting about 600 Kbps download though. But that's reasonable. I Have had service with them for well over a year now.

The order and install process went successfully as planned I give them two thumbs up on that. The sales guys are nice too because they want your money. In the first two months of my service my connection would drop frequently... and the lights on my SpeedStream would turn orange and go off intermittently. They say their tech support is 24/7, I had trouble contacting them during regular business hours and their phone menu is awful it sends you everywhere and then disconnects you. When i got through by going through a sales rep the tech told me that their "DSL guy" was in only at a certain time. After contacting Covad also my problems were finally fixed and the past year has been great. With the exception of them changing DNS servers and not telling anyone.

I shopped around alot before selecting Aplus NET as my ISP and feel they are a good choice for San Diego. Pricing is fair they offer static IPs, and offer you a free domain name and hosting. Their tech support is horrible for DSL or their Solo Web Hosting plans.

Update 8/10/01 - I ordered 4 IP numbers with my service and they keep on giving my numbers out and I have to call back to get new numbers and have to reconfigure my server services each time. Now only 1 IP works out of the 4. they gave it again. Go figure....

Well, I've heard some stories about dsl installations and problems and I didn't have one. Aplus did exactly what they claimed. I could only get what they call idsl and it works! I'm a new user and didn't know that you can only get certain speeds depending on distance from a "co". They gave me the information to make an informed decision and everything went the way they said.

Hope everyone else gets as pleasant of an experience as I got. I almost didn't sign up because of the wait time but they told me it was about normal. I asked a few more places and I guess that's right.

From the first contact with sales where the person was courteous and informative, to the follow up he did on when my install would be done, to tech support helping me with my self install kit ( it was short 2 of the blockers and the Aplus tech contacted Covad and got me more shipped ) If the service keeps running as good as it is now and I can still reach a live body when I need to, I see no need to search anywhere else for my connection

I have been trying to get a response from Aplus net (abac.com) regarding my installation. I ordered service over a month ago from www.aplusnetdsl.com. So far they charged me for 2 months service + modem. No service has been installed and they will not return 2 voice mails and 4 e-mails from 2 weeks ago. I have attempted to cancel my order, but again, no response from them. I am disputing the charges with my credit card company. So far I am out about $325 with NOTHING to show for it but frustration!!!!!!! I wish I read the reviews before I took the plunge!! They should be called Fminus.net!

I would urge anyone who has had problems with them to contact the BBB, the office that would handle it is in San Diego : www.sandiego.bbb.org

You can do a search on them by using aplus in the company field and they are listed under A Plus Net, 5266 Eastgate Mall, San Diego, CA 92121. The number of Complaints Processed by the BBB in Last 12 Months against them is 56! We are not alone!!!
