I'm "grandfathered" under the old 384-1.5 (guaranteed 384) plan for $49.95 a month, self install, free modem (with rebate). And since my capacitive loop length is right at 18,200 feet and I'm getting 640/108 transfer rates with a 768 cap, i'm staying put! The nly other option for me is wireless, and they can't touch the 768/128 and unlimited throughput for anywhere near $49.95. And I'd have to buy the CPE and pay an install fee.
In addition, ASI and PacBell have gotten much better at working together here locally. When my line started having probs, I got a truck roll within a day from ASI, who got a PacBell truck roll the SAME day to remove a bridge tap off my line.
The field techs out this way may not be the best trained or best equipped, but they are working hard to give the best service possible within the constraints placed on them by management and the aging plant.
Thumbs up overall.

I was up and running within two weeks of sealing the deal w/ DirecTV. Setup was very easy and everything worked just as the instructions said they would. Since getting the service, I have done some research here on DSLR about DirecTV as a provider (hey, better late than never), and I have read reviews from glowing to condemning, so I guess it doesn't pay to generalize about a provider's quality when there are so many variables involved but, whatever the reason, I have been very lucky with DTV. Speeds consistantly in the 1200/225 (out of 1.5/256) range with minimal tweaking. I would recommend these guys.
Update - Well, they're gone now, but they were a good ISP for me right up until the end. I'm with Bellsouth now and they're OK except for no static IP and the recent news server problems.
Update 1/26/2004 - I was feeling guilty about continuously ignoring the periodic prompts to "review my ISP", so I will post a follow-up. Bellsouth has been a good ISP for almost a year now, except for the problems with the News service. Surfing and e-mail have been fast and reliable. I haven't been able to access News for several months now, and I've basically given up. Tried everything I could think of, talked to tech. support 3 different times, but they are ineffective. The last guy I talked to said that they would forward my information onto a line tech. and I would be contacted within 24-48 hours. That was 3 weeks ago and I haven't heard a peep. I'm not a big news user, so it's not a catastrophe for me (i.e., not worth giving them a "horror story" review), although the poor customer service is disappointing. Otherwise, they've been OK. But if a better deal comes along after my contract expires in March, I won't be afraid to check it out.

I ordered online and within 3 weeks I received my DSL gateway, plugged it in, and was up and running at 1.3 after tweaking. This was the smoothest easiest DSL install I have come across. I did not have to deal with customer service one time (not even for the order). Advertised 1.5 Mbps for $49 with a static IP address - no other service provider came close to this deal.

Well, after I saw all the horror story's in DSLReports.com I was thinking of canceling my order, but I said it's only $19.99 plus the shipping, its not much, so I decided to give them a try. To my surprise the installation was simple, even a 12 year old kid can do it. The download speed is great! I took some speed test here at DSLReports and got download speeds of 824.2 kbps & 1204 kbps. When I download a file on the web it's about 170KBs/sec which is fast in my opinion. (I live 9900 feet away from the CO.) The upload speed I've seen is about 13KBs/sec, but I don't have a tweak for that. Either way I don't do much "uploading" so this isn't important to me.

I have Buckeye Cable for modem service. They recently upgraded to 2mb down and 256k up. I get very good speeds and it is never down.
They also recently upgraded their mail sever and it works great now. I don't have any problems with it.
If anyone is having problems with it, call their help line because it is not their service, but just something individual in your lines that they can fix.
