I have been with ACEDSL for about 3 years. Overall they have been marginal. The price for their 1600/128mb connection is pretty good considering they provide a static ip. But if you need help, don't call them after hours. The only time I have to work on my server is after work. Their techinical support has been constantly rude when I call them after hours. They porovide after hours service, but act as if I am disturbing them when my internet connectvity is down. This has happend 4 consistent times over 3 years. I don't call during normal business hours becasue I work.
I am in the market for another provider now, since my internet is not working atm. I am writing this on my neightbors wireless connection...shhhhh. I will probably give bway.net a shot.
My opinion: AceDSL has a long way to go....

AceDSL was able to reach me when all others said that they couldn't. Where I lived before I had used both Speaskeasy and Verizon DSL services. The AceDSL service rivals/bests both of those for quality/reliability! They have very knowlegable tech support and have been very hassle free. I have never had an outage in the 18 months with them and the connection stablility has been good to excellent even @ 18000 feet from the CO (768/128 is all I could get at this distance).

Update: Their tech support is fairly good. But unfortunately you still depend on Verizon if something goes wrong and this can be a problem. Overall it is worth the money.
I tried to get earthlink dsl but after a 45 day wait period i was told that my line can not have dsl installed. I called Ace and they told me no problem. After initial wait maybe 30 days for Verizon to hook up my line i called Ace techs and after 30 minutes I was online. In past 7 months they were maybe few outages otherwise it is stable.
Static IP, no software required, worth your money
Update Jan2006: I had some problems with my speed that went down to 700kbps. Guys at Acedsl work hard to get the problem solved. We tried different possibilities. They opened trouble ticket with Verizon two times and it happened that Verizon kept me on an overloaded hub.
I have been with Acedsl for 4 years and have to say that so far had no major issues, any problems they were able to fix very fast. Tech sup knows what they are talking about.

$50 a month for 1600/384 service with static IP and you can host a server.
Ace is a top rate ISP, offering excellent service and support. I like to think of them as an ISP for grown-ups. The "for dummies" crowd can stick to verizon and save some money.
Ace requires no software installation on your computer(if you have TCP/IP and an ethernet port you're all set). They allow hosting of servers, give a static IP. They offer dry-loop DSL, and VOIP service, so you can completely cut out the local phone company.
I've used Ace with Windows, macs, linux, bsd and OS/2. If your machine has TCP/IP, it's supported.
Tech support is first-rate. They don't "baby" customers that are technical. Ace's tech's know TCP/IP and they work with you, instead of asking you silly questions like how long is your telephone cord. It's refreshing to get tech support people that are technical, and not some robot reading a checklist.
I've had them over 3 years now, and have had about 99% connect reliability. I've had to call them about minor problems 4 or 5 times. In each case the situation was fixed quickly.
If you don't need good support, static IP, the abilty to host a server, you can save some money and go with verizon. For my needs Ace is well worth the cost.
I'll post an update about the dry-loop dsl status as I get more information.

August 2005 - Recently moved (locally) and took the opportunity to switch to Verizon DSL after 4 years with AceDSL. Still loved AceDSL (especially the static IP), but judging by some of the posts on here, Verizon has gotten better and the price ($30/month for 3000/768) can't be beat. So I figured I'd give Verizon a shot and haven't regretted it so far. In fairness, AceDSL offered to match the Verizon 3000/768 service that's available at my new address, but only for $50/month, not the $30/month Verizon offered. But if price wasn't a consideration, I'd still be with AceDSL - solid service and good support (they actually know what they're talking about, which is a refreshing change of pace from most tech support departments).
----------------------------------------
May 2001 - Placed the order on a Wednesday and much to my surprise the sync light was solid when I came home the following Monday night...several weeks before the date I had been given. Static IP is great and support is superb. To date I've sent two e-mails to tech support with minor questions and in both cases had an answer within minutes.
If you're in an area served by AceDSL, don't even think about Verizon.

I had acedsl for a number of years and it was rock solid. I moved twice during that period. They beat their setup time estimate all three times they setup the DSL.

Update 5/2005:
I just had AceDSL upgrade me to 3000/768, for an extra $10/mo. It took an extra week, because Verizon kept bouncing the order (being that it's a 'partner' ordering 3K/768 on an RT), but when the order finally went in AceDSL told me it would take 3 days to take effect, and it did.
Service with AceDSL has been problem free to date. It's definitely worth it to us. _________________________________________________________________
My AceDSL line went live this week. There have been no problems at all during the provisioning and setup phase. Everything has happened exactly as AceDSL (Acescape) as said it would.
This line is replacing my Speakeasy/Worldcom (previously DSLi/Rhythms) IDSL at 144 w/static IP, which was costing $59.95+"fees"/mo. I''ve been a very happy customer of Speakeasy, and am sorry to be leaving them. However, I'm at 36000' from the CO, and I can't get anything other than IDSL from a CLEC.
However, I'm under 9000' from a Verizon Remote Terminal. That means I can get DSL from Verizon for $29.95/mo. But, I don't want PPPoE, and I'd rather keep a static IP. That rules out Verizon, but leaves any Verizon partner.
AceDSL is giving me 1600/384 w/static IP and without PPPoE for the exact same price as my IDSL. It's a no-brainer to switch. And they do not require a contract, and no setup fee (just $20 for "S&H" of the modem).
Installation went without a hitch. I got the Westell modem from them in the mail, plugged it in, and was up and running within minutes.
My line is now up and fully functional. I had a minor packet loss problem that I traced back to be within their network. I opened a support ticket about it on Saturday, and they **called** me on the phone about the problem on Sunday afternoon. I missed that call, but when I spoke to them on Monday night, I emailed a bunch of traces to them. They fixed the problem before midnight. Now, THAT'S how technical support is supposed to work!
I am now seeing TCP transfers of 183KBps.

Quick rundown on my setup.
Home System is: Ultra Sparc 10 333Mhz/768Mb/100gig running Solaris 9 Sparc Westell DSL modem Linksys BSF... something 4 port router/hub Ethernet connection to Linksys
Familys System is: Pentium II/700Mhz/192Mb/30gig running Windows 2k Ethernet connection to Linksys
I have been using ACEDSL for almost 5 years now. It has been the best connection I have had .. especially the recent upgrade on their residential upload/download rates. Static IP address NO pppoe NO software installation Instant on Reliable connection Available tech support
I have even managed to convert some people from Verizon to Acedsl. Converting Cable users is much harder. I had a bad experience with Verizon when DSL was becoming mainstream 5 years ago ... so many calls so many tests ... three tier support just to get a solution ... and the silly software I had to install (back then I was running WINDBLOWS) just to get up and running.
I have NEVER regretted moving over to Acedsl. The price is not cheap but its worth it for the service I get ... considering how much time I spent online. I rarely watch TV, I am online 24/7 for research, news, chats, usenet ... you name it.
Having a trouble free connection (especially for video conferencing) is worth it!!!

Ive been a customer of AceDSL for a year now and feel that anyone needing fast and reliable ISP need not look any further. Over the past year I have not had a single problem with service, connection is stable and speed is as advertised.
Installation was fast, faster then the listed time on site and upgrading services is even easier when the need arises. Im a convert from Optimum Online, yes OO has simply amazing downstream speeds but its anemic on the upstream side. Ace, on the other hand is fast on both up and down with AceDSL 3000. The TOS allow running servers and you can add multiple static IPs for an extra fee.
When I ordered I received a westell modem, which has never lost sync. In the past I was a customer of Flashcom which used Covad and I would continually lose connection sometimes for days. This company comes highly recommended, even with the somewhat high sticker price.
My loop length is 3678ft

When I found out AceDSL was available in my area, I immediately ordered a new circuit from Verizon. I did not have circuit switched phone service in my house as I was using VOIP over my Charter Digital Connection.
I order AceDSL SOHO service on 11/04/04 and on 11/12/04 I got an e-mail from Ace saying my line was installed. I connected my old DSL modem that I had and was surprised that I was actually up and running. However, the fastest I have been able to get so far is about 900 down and 370 up. The upload speed is good, but the download speed is terrible.
I've been communicating with Ace for a few days now trying to get the issue resolved. They've had me trying all kinds of stuff like running multiple downloads and removing the switch from in between my Linux machine and the DSL modem, but the end result is that my line is not as fast as it's suppose to be.
The customer service people are really nice and they don't treat you like you are an idiot like the cable company does. I really want Ace to contact Verizon and find out what the deal is with my line. I've had DSL before through Speakeasy at another house I lived in. I was 500 ft further away from the CO at that location and I got excellent download speeds from a 1.5 line, so I feel that distance is not the issue. I think it's more likely something wrong with the line and I wish Ace would do something about it.
I really want the static IP and the DSL connection. I hope someone from Ace reads this and does something about getting my line fixed.
Update-- my speed has improved to about 1.2/360 which is not bad. Ace has given me a couple of incentives as well which make it nice. Overall a pleasant experience. Wish I could get more speed, but it's probably the line and not really anything that Ace can control.
