Never got any service, even after spending hundreds of dollars on their recommendation, and waiting over three months.

Pacific Net representatives, Mike S. and others, exhibited very poor communication skills, and kept telling me that it would "only take 2-3 more weeks". I had to intiate almost all contact, phone and email. Received numberous apologies, but no results. Told that Covad had 'lost' my order, but when I called Covad they said they had no record of an order for me, or for Pacific Net for me, or for my street address, that they didn't 'lose' orders since their system is on a computer, and that probably my rep, Mike S. of Pacific Net, was lying to me. I got a sense that Covad was recommending that I use another ISP. When I sent Pacific Net a nasty email about their lack of service and what Covad had said, surprise, they have never responded.

I am embaressed that I tried so long with them. But after you spend a few hundred to rewire your house, based on their recommendation, you think you'll keep trying.

In conversations with Mike over the months I got the sense that Pacific Net is understaffed and overworked. Sadly that means that customer service suffers and honesty can get compromised. Pacific Net has also been bought by another firm, so it may be that the employees just don't care any more.

I strongly advise to not use this ISP. I may have had good reviews in the past, which is why I signed with them, but most of those reviews were last year or located in remote regions of California. Hell, I'm only 15 miles from their headquarters and they couldn't get me service!!!

Try any one else...... I have.

Suprise ! ! !

Look at the bright side, that new wire works with anybody's service. And Covad would tell you stuff about your mother, if it got you off their back. So what? DSL sucks all over. Did you think this would be easy? Welcome to the party.

I had problems with PacificNet too

Admittedly, I got what I really wanted out of the whole ordeal, but the PacificNet chapter of my long agonizing "get-me-broadband" story is as follows:

After putting several calls in for Pacific Bell DSL, and never getting a callback, I decided to try PacificNet, mainly because I had used them before for dialup access. I knew they were a smaller ISP and might have better communications with me to tell me what the real story was for me getting DSL. So, on March 3, 2000, I put in my order. I'm assured that I'll get a callback in a few days, but I don't. I asked if IDSL was a possiblility, and I was told "yes, that's available, but doesn't make sense if you can get ADSL, so lets try that first".

On 3/8 I get word that they need $35 to "Deconsolidate" my ISDN line in order to test it. Whatever that is. I was never charged this $35, nor did my ISDN ever flinch (they never did anything TO it).

On 3/15 (a full week later) wondering what's happening, I send M. Boyer an e-mail. I am told "as soon as I get off the phone I will get us an answer".

On 3/23 (8 DAYS LATER .. boy he must have had a long conversation) I get the following:
"Sorry for the delay. The engineering department can't seem to determine whether you are within range. I am still awaiting word."

On 3/24, I get the following, EXCITING news:
"After much ado, we finally have a good due date. They will be installing on March 31st in the p.m." I sent a follow up asking if this means they qualified it. He says "yes, when they give us an install date, it's good to go for DSL"

3 hours later, I get the REAL news:
"An engineer just called me saying this never should have been approved. You have no copper wire out there. Everything in your house is pair gain or lightspan which is incapable of handling dsl. I am afraid I have just pulled the rug out from under you. I am just the messenger. There is
nothing that can be done for you at this time. I am putting in a cancel as we speak."

I then followed this up inquiring about IDSL. All e-mails after this were ignored. I guess they were tired of dealing with my account (even though I've never been anything but cordial).

The bottom line -- it took Pacific Bell over 5 months to accurately determine that I have an embedded DLC!

bought by another firm????

"Pacific Net has also been bought by another firm, so it may be that the employees just don't care any more."

Could you elaborate on this further? I'd really like to know as I'm currently waiting on PacificNet....

I ordered the full DSL/ISP service from PacBell then read about the horrors of PPPoE so I decided to try and find another ISP. Ran into the reviews for Pacificnet and decided to give them a try, when I called I got one of the Mikes, he was very friendly and helped me out with all the info I needed. I agreed to go with them as my ISP, we both made a call the PacBell to change over the service and thankfully they didn't have to change my installl date. Two weeks later the PacBell guy arrived, I was told he would be here between 1pm and 5pm, he called at 12 and asked if it was alright to come a little early, I was stoked. Took him about a half hour to setup outside, another half hour to install the NIC (damn computer kept crashing installing the drivers). Made a call to Pacificnet and they hadn't built the account yet. The tech said he'd have in done in 10 mins, after about 30 mins of trying to ping one of PacBell's IPs he made another phone call. The tech guy said he was just building the account and it should be up in 2 mins, 30 seconds later the ping went through, bam! The tech loaded some steaming web cam, looked great, so he left. I've had the service for about a month now, great speed, fast DNS, no problems at all. I've gotten very fast speed, up to 1.8 Mb/s.

Time Usually Tells

Now that more time has passed, how has the service been. Has there been any loss of service. What has the speed been like. Any packet errors.
Im moving into the homes being built off California and Valencia, near Orange Elementry.

I had poor luck with Pacbell's installation. Being proactive with this problem and the help of the gang at Pacificnet everything worked out and Pacbell fixed their screwups.

I have to say as loud as I can that Pacificnet is TERRIFIC! The staff and service is OUTSTANDING and for once in my internet life (8+ years) I can say that I will remain loyal to this ISP for as long as I reside in this community.

Thanks to all the Mike's at pacificnet. Tech support are courteous and DO NOT treat me like an amature. Kudos gentleman.

RATE PACIFICNET A+++++++++++++++

When my DSL line was first installed PacificNet had forgotten to give my block of IP addresses reverse DNS to be identified as local IP's by the mail and web servers. I was prevented from sending mail and couldn't access the PacificNet customer service pages (for PacificNet users only). After a few calls to tech support (which was very friendly and helpful) they figured out the problem and had it resolved in a couple of days. Other than that my service has been excellent. I would recommend them to those looking for a DSL provider in Northern California.

Pacificnet was incredible!!! The only problem I ran into were the PacBell techs. During the preliminary setup at my home, the PacBell tech crossed my phone lines leaving me without a phone for 3 days until the DSL tech showed up to fix everything. I ordered 384/128. I am getting around 750 down and 200 up for $10.00/month. I have 2 static IP's, both work great. Tech support is amazing too. I had a problem with my mail after I switched to DSL, and their tech support was very helpful. All and all a great experience.
