This company has no idea how to treat their clients.

    I requested a SDSL line with 6 static IP's on 3/26. I realized that
there was a 3 week wait period for the line. So I had my mail server in
a remote location for the time being so that we could access it via
dialup/VPN, this way our business could keep functioning. On 4/12 the
line was installed. I then proceeded to call Local ISP(it took three or
four calls to get someone) to have a technician come out and set up the
router. They called Rhythms and scheduled an appointment for 4/16.
When the rythems tech came out he brought with him a CISCO 478 router,
Local ISP told me that I would be able to use my Netopia 7100 router.
The tech could not get the router to work. So he left and said call
Local ISP... the problem is theirs now. When I called Local ISP they
told me that they had installed the wrong line and that unless I wanted
to use this line it would be another 3 weeks until verizon could get out
here to fix it. I told them ok I'll use this line just FedEx me the
router that I need, I need to get up and running. It took them 3 days
to get me the CISCO 475 router. When I got it still didn't work. It
took some 3 hours to get a tech on the phone (I have only contacted one
tech... I think that is all they have) when I spoke with this gentleman
he proceeded to get me up and running. I waited another week and a half
to make sure the line was stable. I then scheduled with them a time to
bring my mail server back to the office on 4/30. I proceed to get the
mail server here and get the IP's that I requested in the beginning.
The line was up and the mail server was up for a day. Then on 5/1 I
started having problems with the line. I called Local ISP about 20
times until I gave up on their Tech support number and tried to contact
my sales rep... That didn't work. Finally I contacted my sales reps
secretary. She informed me that they were upgrading their network to
better serve their customers. Well isn't that nice... but why didn't
they tell me this before I brought my mail server back to the office.
Between the two day period of 5/2-5/3 I was up and down, the line was
very unstable. They changed their Tech support opening message on 5/4
saying that rythems has been experiencing a outages and this is
affecting all of their DSL customers. Oh that's great. It is now 5/7
and I am still down not only can the office not surf the net they cannot
send or receive e-mail. All of our clients are getting the mail they
send us bounced back to them. Every time I speak to them they tell me
the best way to contact them is to e-mail them... well that's great but
I CAN'T E-MAIL. We are a technology company we understand the
complications in technology but this is crazy, I have no faith in this
company, they are irresponsible. I sit here and look at the contract
that I signed... I am holding up my end of the bargain why aren't they.
If you are looking for a DSL provider I would urge you to go somewhere
    else...

I ordered a line from localisp.com several weeks ago. The sales process for the most part was very smooth. After that, however, things got a little messy. When I initially received my bridge in the mail from rhythms my line didn't work. Localisp escalated to Rhythms and got the problem corrected, but not until after many phone calls and voicemails. For the most part their tech staff was very friendly and helpful, when I could get them on the phone, however for most of the day calls were directed to a voicemail box, and my voicemails were never returned.

The most recent issue I've encountered is a problem that's preventing me from uploading any more than a kilobyte or two of data to the net at a time. I left a voicemail for the night tech, which was returned, and I followed his instructions to help troubleshoot the problem. He suggested I then talk to the morning staff. Talking to the morning staff was an ordeal that required two emails, a voicemail and several calls to get a response from a human. I was informed that they were looking into two possible causes for the problem. As soon as I got off the phone I was able to rule out one of the causes, but unfortunatly it was impossible to get back in touch with them for another two hours, and no one had heard the voicemails I'd left. When I got off the phone they were in the process of escallating to Rhythms. That was yesterday. Today I left a voicemail explaining the problem was still occouring. Several hours later I was able to get in touch with a human (think continuous redial) to check the status of the issue, and I was informed they were waiting to hear from a customer as to whether the problem was still occouring. They had also been too busy to listen to their voicemail, including the one I'd left them explaining that indeed it was. It should also be worth noting that when this problem began happening I (at localisp's request) set up a mechanism so they could test my line themselves. Appearantly they'd forgotten.

All I have to say is, if you use localisp.com, you'd better hope it works the first time. If it doesn't, good luck getting them to fix it. I've had my installation kit for over a week and a half now, my credit card has been billed for my first month, my line doesn't work, and no one seems terribly concerned.

I originally had Northpoint DSL for 14 months so I was pissed when I heard they were going under. I placed my order for ADSL service with Local ISP/Rhythms on 3/13. The order was for 768/384 service with static IP using 3Com Home Connect ADSL ethernet modem. The presale info and line sharing coordinator info was accurate.

My NP line went dead on 3/29 and the Rhythms line went live on 4/3 so luckily I wasn't down for long. (I had placed the Rhythms order on 3/13 when I knew that NP was definitely going under).

Initially the line sharing ADSL was installed on the wrong dialup line. I requested the ADSL be moved to my second line. Rhythms insisted in doing a disconnect/reconnect. On 4/24 they did the disconnect and reconnect to my second line. Unfortunately Verizon had switched me to a loaded pair on that line the day before to resolve a hum issue I had. I called Verizon and they fixed the line on Thurs, 4/26.

I had sync but could not surf. I called Local ISP since it was apparent that something in the PVC wasn't built right. Today, 4/28 Rhythms notified Local ISP that they had changed the PVI/PCI info when they did the disconnect/reconnect without notifying Local ISP. Local ISP rebuilt my PVC on their end and I am up and running.

Note: the ADSL originally went live on the main line on 4/3 and ran fine until 4/24 when they did the switch to the second line. The 4 day outage from 4/24 to 4/28 were caused by the loaded pair issue and the wrong PVC info and were not Local ISP's fault.

One other note: Local ISP does not provide a news server which is not an issue to me since I have a dialup account which allows access to their news server with authentication from the Local ISP DSL connection.

Not bad for 14,652 ft from the CO.

I ordered a 1500K x 384K ADSL line at $79.95/month with a static IP address. The friendly customer service person was very helpful in explaining my service(s) to me and took my order in a courteous and professional manner.

It took 17 days from my DSL line to be installed as the equipment arrived in 16 days. I would have had this line installed when the equipment arrived, but had trouble reach Local-ISP's tech support dept. during off hours (10:30 PM). I left a voice mail message which was returned the following day, mid morning.

I was up and running within 15 minutes after their return phone call. I'm a happy camper and would recommend Local-ISP.com to my friends!!!

Value for money:

I called Local ISP for information on a DSL line. My company, Future Express is a same day, nationwide courier company. Since I track cargo , flights , and weather on the Internet, I was told by my sales representative that mission critical applications , that absolutely must not go down are most reliable with a T1. Well , that may be true, but a T1 was not in my budget. So I asked some questions and found out that my location only qualified for 128k SDSL. Based on my limited knowledge of Internet speed, 128k seemed slow. My sales rep explained to me that although it wasn't a fast speed, it would be better that the 4 dial up lines we were using, and would save some money for the company based on message units and dedicated dial up phone lines.

Well about 3 weeks later I get a call from Local ISP. It seems that the Rhythms installer has found that my line can be set up for 256k SDSL. I told them to go for it! So the Rhythms installer finishes the install in about 1 hour. I called Local ISP tech support to ask them for help on connecting the router to my network. In about 15 minutes, they have me completely up and running!

Since I have had the line, September 2000, I have only had 1 problem. It seems that some bad inside wiring was causing my line to drop. So I called the LocalISP tech department. They placed a call to Rhythms. The day after that Rhythms and Verizon show up. They fix the inside wiring and the problem was solved.

Local ISP actually answers the phones and responds to problems very quickly. My business depends on the Internet for many things, and I have had a great experience so far.

    So Far So Good (1/14/2001)
Initial charge of ~$250 for the dsl modem but I get a Rhythms rebate of $229.
    I was promised 768/384, I tested at dslReports ~600/~300.
Local-ISP uses your current phone line for the DSL line, which means filters have to be used.
Equipment - 3Com HomeConnect ADSL Modem.

I was a Flashcom customer until they went out of business. Earthlink offered to take over my DSL service without any service interruption but they were not offering static IPs. I wanted a DSL provider who offered a static IP address and a decent upload speed. I checked out Local-ISP, Telocity, Cybertel, USONet, and CompuHelp. All offered static IPs. Telocity offered only a 90k up (for their residential service). USONet could not promise me anything better than a 4-6 week install time period (and this is only when the Covad technician would be scheduled), and they wanted a 12-month contract. CompuHelp offers DSL for small business, hence their plans were more expensive (~$100/month for 144/144). Cybertel offered a 1500/384 plan for $80/month with a monthly contract.

In the end, I signed up with both Cybertel (the monthly contract and high download speed were very attractive even though they were a bit pricy) and Local-ISP.

Five weeks after signing up with Cybertel I have not heard from them or from Covad and I have canceled my order.

Three weeks after signing up with Local-ISP and only 10 days after Flashcom turned off my DSL connection Local-ISP had me up and running. During the order and installation process I called Local-ISP three times. Twice I was immediately connected to a live person and once I had to leave a message with my call being returned by a Local-ISP technician within 30 minutes.

If you can use Local-ISP I would recommend them. I'm happy .

    UPDATE: I'm not happy (1/16/2001)
I pinged my IP address from work and received reply times above 500ms and some timed out. I ran a line test and it can be found here (»/quality/nil/305186). I posted at this site and hopefully will receive some feedback for help.

The reason that I am not happy with Local-ISP now is because while I was a Flashcom customer my ping times were around 80ms. I'm thinking it might be Local-ISPs equipment. But at least I can get them on the phone to talk to. I'll let you know how this resolves.

    UPDATE: I'm sort of happy (1/17/2001) :|
I spoke with my ISP and they said there was a problem with the line that was affecting alot of customers (Local-ISP and others) in North Jersey. I did perform a tracert from my office to my home and then from my home to my office, and both times I received ping times above 500ms for one site, two hops away from me. Local-ISP says they are working on it (well, not them, but someone is). I guess I happened to sign up at the wrong time; when their equipment failed. I'll wait and see how long it takes for the problem to be fixed.

One good thing: Their technical support is excellent. I can call and actually speak to someone immediately (or leave a message and they'll call me back, and they actually call me back!). And their people know what they are talking about.

    UPDATE: I'm happy again (1/21/2001)
Everything is fixed and my service is running smoothly. My last speed test was 628/322 and here is my last line test: »/quality/nil/309159.
An email was sent out to everyone from Local-ISP's president explaining the problem and apologizing for it. It was a nice added touch. Once again, I would recommend Local-ISP to anyone who can get it.

    UPDATE: I'm very happy (4/16/2001)
Over the weekend LocalISP upgraded their systems. They gave out a new IP address to me along with new DNS server addresses. I've noticed an increase in speed, especially to the west coast (~650/340) and their DNS servers respond much quicker. Two months ago, they promised an upgrade to their network and they actually came through! Thanks. I highly recommend LocalISP for anyone in the area.

True up-loading is VERY slow; However since the technology is fairly new on this scale & in terms of dealing with a "civilian market" hungry for technology they don't quite fully understand, coupled with bigmouthed dweebs who have'nt a clue what the HELL is going on at wind river technologies or where there located for that matter(PHEW!) but know SELL SELL SELL! There can be buncha' connnfusion!

I have to hand it to the folks at Verizon DSL though; they tried sorta' real hard to get it "out there&a runnin' ASAP. I now have a nice little second income performing config. set-ups for new connects. in the Monmouth County area, Where the motto is;"I don't give a damm how much it costs, just get my little buffies CPU on-line!?" But thats why we're all here at this, the more informative, better looking site for DSL efficianados! OH, and when you start seeing; MICROSHAFT.NET coming to a theater near you! RUUUNNN!

I have been working with Local ISP for the last couple of months. I
have to admit I was a little nervous working with a company based out of
New Jersey when I was in Colorado, but I have to say they are by far the
most professional company I have worked with in connection with DSL. My
sales rep told me it would take 4 to 6 weeks to have it hooked up. It
was completely installed in 3 weeks but I couldn't get connected to the
internet. Their tech department helped me get it up and working
quickly. Any questions I have had they call me back right away and if
they don't know the answer they find out and get back to me. I really
    enjoy working with them.
