I ordered a line from localisp.com several weeks ago. The sales process for the most part was very smooth. After that, however, things got a little messy. When I initially received my bridge in the mail from rhythms my line didn't work. Localisp escalated to Rhythms and got the problem corrected, but not until after many phone calls and voicemails. For the most part their tech staff was very friendly and helpful, when I could get them on the phone, however for most of the day calls were directed to a voicemail box, and my voicemails were never returned.

The most recent issue I've encountered is a problem that's preventing me from uploading any more than a kilobyte or two of data to the net at a time. I left a voicemail for the night tech, which was returned, and I followed his instructions to help troubleshoot the problem. He suggested I then talk to the morning staff. Talking to the morning staff was an ordeal that required two emails, a voicemail and several calls to get a response from a human. I was informed that they were looking into two possible causes for the problem. As soon as I got off the phone I was able to rule out one of the causes, but unfortunatly it was impossible to get back in touch with them for another two hours, and no one had heard the voicemails I'd left. When I got off the phone they were in the process of escallating to Rhythms. That was yesterday. Today I left a voicemail explaining the problem was still occouring. Several hours later I was able to get in touch with a human (think continuous redial) to check the status of the issue, and I was informed they were waiting to hear from a customer as to whether the problem was still occouring. They had also been too busy to listen to their voicemail, including the one I'd left them explaining that indeed it was. It should also be worth noting that when this problem began happening I (at localisp's request) set up a mechanism so they could test my line themselves. Appearantly they'd forgotten.

All I have to say is, if you use localisp.com, you'd better hope it works the first time. If it doesn't, good luck getting them to fix it. I've had my installation kit for over a week and a half now, my credit card has been billed for my first month, my line doesn't work, and no one seems terribly concerned.

LOCAL-ISP RESIDENTIAL IDSL SERVICE FOR CHATHAM TOWNSHIP, NJ

I was told by Local-ISP they could get 208k ADSL to me in May, so I ordered the service. At the beginning of June they told me that, due to distance, they can only offer 144k IDSL through Rhythms - fair enough - so I told them to proceed with install. ($49/mth for 24mths with free equipment.) Since then - nothing.

At long last they had Bell Atlantic due to come out Aug 6 (before the strike) but that did not happen. Bell was due again Aug 22, but again nothing. Well we all know of Bell Atlantic's sad failings, but Local-ISP clearly have ZERO clout with Rhythms or Bell. Now four months after signing up they still have no idea when I can get IDSL installed.

They are pleasant when I call, but have no idea what is happening and are too terrified to call Rhythms or Bell and ask for straight answers, let alone apply any pressure.

Clearly Local-ISP are failing to deliver on the agreement I signed up for. Perhaps I should look to Phoenix for the same IDSL service, since doubtless I would get further up the Bell Atlantic list due to some byzantine policy. I guess I could look at one-way cable modem service from the evil RCN.

Clifton,Passaic,NJ

"Poor communication , Poor Web Support, Tech support is untrained"
"Stay away, far away. They get your deposit and then everything falls apart."

On June 26th I received a confirmation via email of my order of 784/392 via Northpoint from Local ISP. On July 28th I received in the mail a letter from Phoenix DSL about installation, that it would take place within the next 10 days. I called Local ISP to see if they were resellers of phoenix. Tech Support told me that Phoenix was part of Rhythms. I tried to tell them that they are an ISP, he disagreed. So I said, well even if your right, I ordered via Northpoint. I was put on hold, and then told they were part of Northpoint. At this point I was getting very upset with the tech support. I asked to talk to his superior. He told me that he was not available, I told him I would hold. Again I was told he was not available, very upset I demanded to talk to his superior. Within 10 seconds his superior was on the phone. In the heat of my frustration I canceled my order. After waiting 5 weeks and hearing about the upcoming strike, I didn't want to put off getting DSL any longer. I calmed down and wrote an email to the manager. I explained that I would like to keep my order if they could keep the same time line I was on. I was assured that since the cancellation was put in on the weekend, that he could stop it. On August 15th I emailed Local ISP about the status of my order. I then called on the 16th to get an answer. I was told because of the Bell Atlantic strike, that they couldn't get a status of my order. It is now September 4th, 70 days from my confirmation of my order. And I have not heard one thing from them.

As much as I like to try to give my business to local companies, at this time I would have to recommend people look somewhere else for service. There communication is poor and service for the price is not that great. There account includes 3 email address, no web space, no news server and no dial-up service. So if your DSL goes down you have no back up plan to get online without paying for another account.

"Make sure you know exactly what you are paying for before you sign up for anything with them."

I signed up for RADSL access with them in the belief that they would install the DSL access onto one of my existing telephone lines which would allow me to have voice communication at the same time as I was on the internet. Well, I was wrong... According to them their version RADSL is a separate non-voice DSL line which I found contradictory to what I thought basic ADSL service provides. I didn't find this out until unfortunetly I paid for the first month, but before it was installed. So, I lost my deposit because I canceled. The residential price includes the separate telephone line which is good along with the dsl modem.

In addition, they also do not offer a Public IP address, so that means you can not be accessed by any machine directly from the outside unless you sign up

for the Business plan. This is good for security, but if you have any hope of providing a server, you're out of luck. Therefore for all you gamers out there, you

can not provide a game server (Quake, Halflife...) , ftp server, web server.... etc. Something to think about when you are paying $47 bux per month on DSL access.

Basically, if you do not care about having another telephone line installed in your house and you not want to be a server then it's fine for me it wasn't the case and I would rather choose to be a server than not have the option at all.
