I looked at Cox but chose Qwest 11 years ago. Started out with 640, don't remember the cost, then 1.5 @ $27 and now 20 @ $20 a month for first 6 months and then $45 with their package. All orders have gone through fine with a start to finish time of about a week. Originally it was a Cisco 678, then an Actiontec M1000 and now a ZyXEL Q100. They have always been available on the phone and to come out to my house to check the quality of my lines.

I've been with Qwest for about ten years and recently called customer service to ask about call blocking. I was informed by Andy that, for a fee, this could be accomplished.
Andy then went on to inform me that for $5/mo I could increase my internet speed to 7mb from 1.5mb I now have.
Since then I have been unable to block calls and my speed hovers around 2.3mb.
Calls to customer service are ignored completely.
Going to cable since Directv requires phone service.

I've been with Qwest for two years, but I'm just tired of the slow speed -- never enough for Netflix. Lately, it's been going up and down and I just given up on them ever upgrading their system. I've now got a wireless connect with Digis. We'll see how that goes.

Qwest recently installed DSL out in my area. It is great speeds are the 1.5 service and getting very close to exactly that. The only thing I noticed are my ping times that are hanging around 75ms witch is not bad but could be better. The only thing I wanted them to do that they refused was to try removing interleaving and put me on fast path. I have read it can lower your ping times alot and if your line is good enough then it is much better to turn it off. In other cases your better to leave it on anyhow they say its against there policy to turn it off. I have read that other people were able to get them to turn it off but perhaps policys change from when they requested it and now. I wish I could try my service without it to see if it helps. Other than that NO complaints its terrific was very happy to get it and it works extremely well. I would have to give Qwest a HIGH 5 on a great job putting in the D-SLAM out here. Only complaint would be wish they would of done it sooner!
Comments:
jgturk join:2010-10-18 Olympia, WA | Also have 1.5Mbit Qwest in the same area... I also noticed the ping times. The first ~55ms of pretty much any ping out to the internet is from Thurston county up to Tukwila. Ping times from there out to anywhere else on the internet are only 5-10ms longer.
Also the thing that annoys me with this service, is when you are downloading even ONE file, your pings shoot way up to ~1500ms. Web browsing goes to crap on my other computers, just because I may be running an update on another one. I get kicked out of game servers because my ping skyrockets while watching a low-res 300Kbps video on another computer.
I've tried switching to a Cisco 675 Modem, from the Qwest-supplied Actiontec. No difference. I wound up bringing in another DSL line to split up some of the load across my systems. 1.5Mbit is more than enough to at least do 2 things at once... but Qwest isn't doing a very good job managing that bandwidth. | |

Never been fully satisfied, but never completely horrified. Tech support is dreadful. Don't call unless desperate. It should be noted that I would have switched if there was another option, but there is only one CO on my part of town, and even that one is kind of far away. There are NO other DSL providers (one is around, but it uses the same CO for more $$$). Cable is prone to congestion and instability, so I am pretty much stuck with Qwest.

Orignal review:
I ordered new phone service as well as new DSL service from Qwest on the 12th. I talked to a salesman at a kiosk in the west acres mall instead of ordering over the phone because I hate talking to someone I cant see. The salesperson was not the most knowlegeable, but he was able to look up any needed information that he didnt know off hand. I completed my order and was told that both my phone and DSL would be activated by the 19th at the latest.
I called them on the 18th for a status check and they said everything was fine, that the order would be completed by 5pm on the 19th. 5pm on the 19th came and went so I called them from a relatives place, they said that it was still going to be done that day, at 7pm at the latest. I got home after 8 that night and it still wasnt connected, so I drove to a pay phone and called them. The tech I spoke to said the line was provisioned and it should be working. I asked why I didnt have a dial tone, and the teck proceeded to run a test that revealed an undetected physical line problem, and also that since it was well after 7pm, a tech would more than likely not be able to fix it that night. I commented that line problems should be checked for before installs go live, but he seemed to disagree with me, or at least Qwest company policy did.
A tech came out the next day around 2pm and was able to quickly fix the problem, at which point both my phone and DSL immediately started working, and I was disappointed to see that I had only trained up to 3072 when I was paying for up to 5 megabits. It was late in the week, however, and I was simply grateful that it was working at last, so I resolved to call tech support again on monday. The connection worked quite well over the weekend.
Today (the 23rd, monday) I called tech support to ask why I'm only getting the 3 megs speeds when I'm paying for up to 5. The tech told me that I am getting what my line is provisioned for: 3 megs. I informed the tech that the advertized speed was 3-5 megs, so I argued that my line should be provisioned for 5 megs and let the modem adjust speed as conditions allow. The tech told me she couldnt do that, that I'd have to talk to billing (billing?!?) about it. So she gets a representative from billing on the line who tells me that 5 megs is not availible in Fargo-Moorhead, only 3 megs, which is what I'm getting. I asked why the tech who sold me the DSL couldnt have told me that in the first place, I basically recieved no answer.
Long story short, after a bit of a headache, and then a monday morning headache, I'm stuck at 3 megs speed, but I'm still happy that it simply works, unlike the college internet connection I just ran away screaming from. I suspsect I'd be equally happy with a cable modem tho, so I'm going to look into that sometime. That is unless the 5 meg speed actually becomes availible soon.
Update: Haha! I checked the reviews for CableOne.net (The second horse in this two horse town, apparently) elsewhere on this site and have decided that the 3 megs with interleaving and no caps looks a lot more attractive than 3 megs, no interleaving, and oppressive download caps. Also it looks like CableOne might be buying bandwidth directly from Qwest in this town. Also Qwests upstream is a hell of a lot nicer. What a joke. Guess I wont be considering switching for a while after all, unless something new becomes availble here (yeah, right).
Cmon Qwest, let us pick if we want interleaving based on how our service performs!
Update 2, September 2010: Midcontinent finally deployed in my neighborhood. I was going to wait to see what some of my friends said before switching, but over the past few days my DSL has been shakier than a fault line, and I even lost my dial tone for extended stretches!
Ive had it. 3 Megs just wont cut it anymore. I was told when I signed up in 05 that 5 and 7 meg service was just around the corner. Ive called every few months since then to see and nothing. Further, when I called earlier today to see about getting the line fixed I ended up getting HUNG UP ON. That tore it. Called midcontinent and scheduled an install, and called qwest to schedule a disconnect a few days later. I cant imagine 20 meg cable somehow being worse than 3 meg DSL. Bye qworst.

I've had Qwest phone for 21 years and was perfectly happy and never planned to switch providers until I started with their internet service and now I cannot wait until my contract expires to drop both services. I was given 6 months free internet service on a two year contract. The billing was wrong for months and months and I had to call and fight for a correction repeatedly--supposedly the kid that sold me the package misinformed me (not my problem). It took so long to get the billing issue resolved and despite being told to wait for the credit and only pay for the phone portion, my phone service was cut once and my internet another time--despite being told by Qwest reps how to proceed.
I have an ActiontecM1000 and subscribed to 1.5 mbps service. Since I have started with Qwest I have probably spent an average of 1.5-2 hours per month either talking to a billing rep or trying to resolve my slow service issue. In the past three weeks alone I've had to make 4 calls, spent at least 3-4 hours on the phone, sat around waiting for a tech for 2 hours one day and I'm currently waiting on one now. I could spend much more time dealing with the issue but I only have so much time to waste trying to resolve their service issues.
I have been told by two of their own technicians that the lines in my area are congested and old and that they are gradually replacing the boxes. Typically they find a problem with a broken line or a cracked line with moisture.
I am frustrated because I'm paying them for the service I'm not receiving, I'm given no refund for the time I'm wasting attempting to resolve their issues and they obviously know they have line issues in the area but are doing nothing to fix the issue--they just keep collecting their money and apologizing. But apologies don't fix my service. If I didn't pay them they'd certainly cut me off but I have no recourse against them because if I cancel they'll trot out their two year contract and slap it on my credit. Seems more than a bit unfair.
The tech support staff are polite and calm, almost to the point of being robotic but it would be nice if they would keep records of what has happened in the past and if the tech support agents would refer to that. I am tired of repeating my on-going issues and being told to plug and unplug things and did I plug it in the right spot, etc. I know how to do all that stuff and re-start the modem and computer and so on (heck, I have to restart it everyday and sometimes several times a day to get any service.) If they would refer to previous notes it would save everyone a lot of time and they would realize it is their issue and that I'm not a moron.
I don't care what I have to pay another provider for service, unless my issue is resolved once and for all I am done on March 28, 2011--too far away but something to look forward to.

I moved to a new townhouse less than 2 years old ordered Qwest.net 40/20 service under there any speed for 29.99 promo. What a Joke. First Tech comes out do the initial install says he get 40/20 at the box proceeds to setup the connection in the house but he cant get more than 12 mbps in the house... Blames the wiring in the house and leaves. Tech# 2 comes out disconnects all the phones in the house directly connects the dsl to the one jack and get 20 mbps but again blames the wiring and leaves. Tech # 3 comes out I'm unable to meet with him directly but leaves note on door stating he found issue at the outside box and all is fix... NOT My modem says 40/20 now but all speeds test show 12 to 15 mbps connection I have never come close to the advertised 40 I would be happy with 30 even 25 but Nope im at 15 on a good off peak day.... I would be livid if I was not on the promo the 40/20 is 90.00 a month you would think for that kind of $$$ they would at least try to get me 25+ mbps connection. None the less there going to send out a 4th tech if 4 tech cannot diagnose the issue then Im canceling the service. Will keep you posted

I have had qwest DSL for well over a year and when i first signed up it was great. I have the 7Mb service and was always getting good speed test results and never had any problems at all. Until about a month ago when my DSL would slow down to worse then a dial up pace. Sometimes pages will not even load or when you click on a link the page will hang and think for about 1-2 minutes then it will load. I called tech support on more then one occasion and was told there is a congestion issue in my area. (iris & idallia) Finally on the last call I asked the barley English speaking level one tech after she told me the same answer "So what you are telling me is Qwest is being greedy and over selling there DSL lines to make more money causing this bandwidth congestion issue and I have to pay the price?" Her response "YES" !!!!!! I am just lost I am thinking about switching to cable one but the bandwidth cap scares me as I run a server from my house. I was also thinking about azulstar but to get an external IP from them you have to have a business account. But at this point anything is better then little to no service at all.
