What more is there to say other then, customer service is great. Pricing is great. Smoothest cutover/change in all my DSL history. I've been a DSL user for over 5/6 years and because of my past experiences with other ISPs, I was very very very hesistant to switch. But the price for performance made me take the risk. I would have to say this was so smooth, I didn't even know what happened. I went to sleep and woke up and my dsl was changed over on the correct date.

Add to that, great tech support, special attention from the CEO, and the ability to adjust to situations as they arise.

So far things are awesome. They are working on a minor speed issue, but that seems to be special issue with RT connections.

All I have to say is: It's almos too good to be true and I just hope that this service doesn't change as the company grows.

I purchased the 1.5-6M/384-608k package with 8 statics for $45 dollars!!!! That's 4 times my old speed for almost HALF the price!

2/23/04 - As of last week, my fast DSL that was at around 3 megs has now become a steady 4.9-5 megs. The only reason is because of the hardwork of the Sonic staff. At SBC, I would have gotten the 3 megs is "normal" run around for sure and that would only happen after about 2+ hours on the phone, being transferred from department to department, probably getting cut off once and having to call back.

HOWEVER, this would not have happened with out the help of some good people at SBC also. Thanks to Toaster who helped Sonic trackdown the RT cap problem. SBC needs more people like you.

Now I'm on to try and improve my latency!!! As they say, "The grass is always greener on the otherside." At least so far on the Sonic side, the grass is pretty damn green and now I'm just trying to make it dark green! Thanks again!

I've had Sonic.Net for a little over a year with no complaints. I've had very little downtime and the few times I've had questions, I received a prompt response. I recently upgraded to the 6Mbps/600Kbps. So far the speed looks amazing!

"Almost impossible to get support"

Sonic sent me a message offering DSL. I responded with a question about transferring my ISDN line. I got no response after four days.

I called and got put on permanent hold.

I called their main line, got put on hold for 15 minutes on a cell phone but finally got a person who said he was aware of the 4 day old message and could answer my questions. That person signed me up OK, I think. He also told me he was doing me a favor because they have some meeting to attend and just shut down support.

(Why do they know I've asked for DSL info 4 days ago and just shined it on? I didn't even get an auto-response)

I waited for the note on the door from SBC saying service has been connected. No note. No verification of connection.

I called the Monday after recieving notice that there was no traffic. Of course I haven't picked up the modem because I don't want to own a modem without some actual notification of connection. All I have is "due date". I don't consider that verification of an install.

I call support 707.547.3400 and get an immediate recording telling me they'll get back sometime. This is President's Day and maybe they just don't work holidays. I accept that.

I don't believe there is much point of asking for support via email but I try anyway. After all, its Presidents Day and people do have a right to take a day off.

Bam! 2 hours later a person responds and says I should pick up my modem.

OK. Who'se there? Email? Unreliable? Voice? On a bet, maybe. Support hours and days? A guess at best.

I don't have a confident feeling about going to their office to pick up a modem and finding them open. In fact, I just don't have any confidence with them but I've somehow stuck it out for at least 10 years now.

I won't bore you with other support issues that have had the same kind of response. They do work when you can get their attention but you can get so frustrated doing that that it will drive you to writing one of these flames.

I assume I'll get a response to this. Sorry it has taken a public airing just to find out if they're still in business. Sometimes it just doesn't appear to be the case.

After about a year of Sonic, I decided to rewrite my review. In the past year, I can't remember having any problems or interruptions with my connection that were the fault of Sonic. Once, there was a storm of traffic that slowed everything down for several hours, but I was still able to connect to Sonic's website, and, using their online tools, I was able to see what was happening (a huge sudden increase in UDP traffic) on their realtime graphs.

Their spam filters catch most all of my spam (not that much with a small ISP), and I occasionally check the spamtrap mailbox for false positives like opt-in advertising/newsletters (that I usually don't read anyway).

Sonic's head honcho, Dane Jasper, is almost always active on both the internal newsgroups and the ba.internet newsgroup, as well as the ones here. He answers questions honestly, without covering up or making excuses. If there's a problem, he's right there to fix it. Even potential problems are addresses to alleviate possible confusion.

Some say their website is lacking - it's not fancy enough, not enough bells & whistles, and other superfluous content. Well, it relects their attitude and that of most of their customers - no BS, no unnecessary content to slow things down. After all, once you have a good, reliable connection, you can find the stuff that appeals to you elsewhere. Which is probably different than what appeals to another customer, anyway.

I recently upgraded to the enhanced DSL, up to 6 mb/s down, and 600 kb/s up. It works great. I get consistent 600 up, although the old lines here (or distance) only give me around 4 or 5 mb/s down. Still, it's plenty fast, and only $45/month for a one-year contract.

I have recommended them to many friends, and several have signed up. None have been unhappy.

Update 2/20/04: I upgraded to 6 mb/s down, 600 kb/s up (for over $10/month less money). At first me, and serveral others, were only getting 3 - 4 mb/s down for no apparent reason. After some research working with SBC, they found there was a problem with the configuration on the RTs. They solved the problem, and now I'm getting over 5 mb/s down. Many ISPs would not have bothered, since we were all within spec, but Sonic felt there was no reason we should not get the full speed. They came through, as usual.

I am a 70 year old woman who was fearful of shifting from dial-up to
DSL. I thought the whole process might be too difficult for me. I
was very apprehensive. However, Sonic Net, patiently answered all my
questions. I called them at least 4 times with various questions.
They were always polite, never making me feel like I was stupid. I
even went in and discussed it further with them. Their explanations
were clear and the whole process was painless and successful
immediately. I did not have to call in SBC for help setting things up.
Moreover, Sonic.net seem very knowledgeable and are excellent at
explaining things to a beginner. I have spoken to other servers in
the past and can say this has not always been the case. It is with
confidence and pleasure that I would recommend Sonic Net. They know
how to give good service. You can actually talk to a knowledgeable
person. This is no small thing these days where so many firms have
forgotten how to be personal and give good service.

I've been a sonic.net user for about 4 years. Initially, my connection was via fixed wireless and later, through ADSL. The ADSL is served via SBC. Sonic runs interference with SBC and seems to get very good performance from SBC; better than SBC delivers to their own clients (based on conversations I had with several SBC cleints).

Lately, sonic is offering nearly T1 speeds for $44.95 per month. They stated the time when my service would go to this level and it did occurr exactly when they indicated it would.

On the rare occasions when there have been difficulties, Sonic has been very responsive. You can always get a human being on the phone, if necessary.

I heartily endorse Sonic and recommend them emphatically.

Ordered sonic dsl on 1/29 (I was switching over from sbc), was given a activation date of 2/6 which is a 4 day process..Dsl was cut off on the 6th and was off until the 11th, so on 2/11 I plugged in the broadmax modem I picked up from sonic and my dsl was ready to go! I signed up for the basic package 1.5/256k and so far the speeds have been great..Also its really nice having a static ip! I only ran into a few little problems while switching, it turned out that the router I had used pppoe and would not work with sonic. It wasn't a big deal I just drove down to the sonic.net office and picked up the broadmax modem they offer. Also a phone line filter in my house was uplugged and that caused my connection to be a little unstable, until I realized it was off..So far I'm very happy that I switched to sonic.net!

I'm a current subscriber who moved to a new location and had the DSL
move as well. Everything concerning Sonic went smooth and easily and my
one call to tech support was fast and very courteous. Overall great
service; thanks Sonic! SBC on the other hand ran into a few bumps but
even that worked out fine in the end.

Have been with sonic.net for 14 months. It just works. Reliable fast connection, quick response to inquiries and now 6.0 meg down, 608 up speeds for $45/mo. Especially like the acknowledgments of outages (infrequent and refreshing!) and ready access to news groups. Static IP allows easy web hosting. It doesn't hurt to be 1500' from the CO.

Actual tests: 10 meg binary download in 17 seconds from sonic.net test site.

    Thanks, Dane.
