My DSL ISP search started with BA. I saw their commercials on TV and thought ti was a very good deal. Went to their website and saw that I could get it. I signed up and waited. After three weeks of waiting and long holds on the phone, I gave up on BA. My friend told me about an ISP that was offering free DSL. I signed up for it. While I was waiting for a response from them, I looked around their website. My first impression was that it was a bit expensive compared to other ISPs. The thing that made me go for it was the offer of free equipment and free installation. Other ISPs claim that they have teh same thing, but you had to first fork out a chunk of money and that you'll receive back in a rebate. So I signed up for DSL.

A day after, in my e-mail were forms to fill out. I had no idea how to fill it out. I called the number listed in the e-mail. A rep name Tom Portoulas picked up. He walked me through the whole process. I decided to pick 1.5/384 because it was the same price as 768/384. He even called me back to confirm that he had received everything.

When it came to planning when BA and Covad would come to do what they had to do, David Bruno did a wonderful job of planning it so it would be good for me. Ba is horrible even when their not the ISP. They missed two appointments. Only the third time did they get it right. While he was putting in the circuit, he told me that I was so far from the CO that I would be lucky if I got 600. Being a bit discouraged, I called Tom. He said that it was possible that I wouldn't be able to get 1.5/384. He also told me that I could cancel the DSL if I couldn't get the speed I ordered at no charge. A few days after the BA guy, the Covad guy came. He put in the rest of the wiring, gave me a modem, tested that the circuit was active and left. Te time was around 2 in the afternoon. I jumped on the DSL after he left. After running a few online applications, went to a few websites and ran a game, I determined that I wasn't going faster than 300Kb. I called Tom back up and told him. he said that I should give it a day and that if it didn't get better, he would open a trouble ticket the next day. To my surprise, by 12 midnight, my DSL was running at a whopping 1350/350.

I spent a few weeks with flawless DSL service. Always running over 1300. In morning of 7/20, my DSL wasn't working. I called at 8:30 and Tom was there. He ran some tests from his end. Unable to figure out what was wrong, he opened a trouble ticket. Unlike other companies that open trouble tickets and get to it whenever they feel like it, Tom and his team spent all day working on it. In the afternoon, he called me back and told me that Covad was replacing a DSLAM in my area and that the service should be back up by the next day. The next day comes and goes. I wasn't home to test it. During the weekend, I called them and a guy named Alex picked up. I asked for Tom because he was my rep. He told me that he wouldn't be in until Monday. So I asked him about the status of my DSL. He pulled it up and saw that it was still unresolved. He took it upon himself to call Covad and BA. The weekend passes by and my DSL still wasn't up.

I was determined to get it back, so I basically spent the whole day on the phone with iNYC. Covad said everything looked good on their end and that it was BA's fault. BA said that everything was good on their end. It was this type of back and forth all day. (I wonder how the iNYC guys deal with it everyday.) Eventually Covad said that a tech would be at my house in two days to run tests. I decided I would leave the DSL stuff alone for two days because there's nothing more anyone can do until the tech came. The morning of the day the tech was suppose to come, I decided to turn on the DSL, just for the hell of it. At first, nothing happened. But my AIM out of no where was able to log on. My DSL was working again... The tech came later that day and was just as surprised as I was. She ran tests on my line to make sure it was healthy. The only downside was that I was at 200K again. Once again Tom told me to give it time. Just like the first time, he was right. As of aight now, I'm running at 1387/352.

I have to give mad props to certain people. (I was a real pain while my DSL was down.)

Tom- You da man! Sticking with me while my DSL was down.

Both Davids- Thanks for the support and the planning around my schedule.

Alex- Thanks for wasting most of the weekend and nights helping me.

Leo- I don't know how you do it, but thanks for sticking by me.

The rest of the company is great too. I highly recommend them. If they can give me 1.5/384 eventhough I'm 12,000ft from the CO, then they can give you what you want.

I recently moved to NY and having read the reviews posted here selected iNYC as my ISP. I chose an ADSL 1.5/384 connection for $89 per month. Presales were pleasant and helpful without being pushy. The people at iNYC who co-ordinate the install kept me in the loop wrt installation dates and after 3 days I was given my dates for the BA wiring. The Bell guy turned up, got the job done in about 20 mins and was very helpful. (he mentioned he had covad at home and was happy with the service they offered!).

The Covad technician turned up when he was supposed to and spent an additional 15mins making sure my PC was up and running with Dave at iNYC.

Since having the line installed there have been no problems. According to the dslreports speed test I am getting 841kps down and 381up. Sweeeet!

All in all I have been delighted with iNYC and would gladly recommend them to other NY users.

Got DSL installed approximately two weeks ago. No major problems. Although one late night the connection was down. Other than that, it's been smooth sailing. We've ordered 1540kbps/384kbps at $89 per month with a two year contract. There was no setup charge although we had to pay for the DSL modem (but with a two year contract, there's a rebate for the purchase price of the modem). The modem is an Efficient SpeedStream 5260. It took about 4 weeks from the time of the initial order to the time our DSL connection was up and running. We could have had our DSL connection in 2 weeks instead, but Bell Atlantic installed our DSL loop on the wrong premise. (no fault on the part of iNYC.com).

In general, the sales rep. and tech support guys at iNYC.com have been great (there was one sales rep. that I encountered that didn't really seems to know what he's doing). In general, they knew their stuff, and if they didn't, they took the initiative to find out the information I needed to know. I've called Tech Support several times (not because of problems I had, but to setup email, etc.) and they we've outstanding. And I was never on-hold for more than three minutes before a Tech Support rep. answered my call.

With our purchase speed, our data transfer rate peaked at 140kB/sec. (very nice). We have a few computers networked. We wanted to setup one of our computer as a server so we've ask for a static IP for an additional $5/month. We didn't realize that until after our DSL was setup that iNYC.com would not provide dynamic IP for the rest of our computers on the network. They said that they would provide dynamic IP's if we never ask for a static. But, since we've requested a static IP, we had setup WinRoute (winroute.com) and hide our networked computers behind one IP (not totally a bad thing, we just had to pay for the WinRoute software). Bottom line is, you can get static IPs or dynamic IPs, but not both.

Overall, it's been a very good experience. Although their prices are a little more than some other DSL ISPs, I would pay the couple of extra bucks to get the quality and professional service and support.

I recently brought iNYC online for my company, Central Semiconductor Corporation. I was extremely hesitant in using a DSL solution for my corporation because of the horror stories I have read about DSL. Unfortunately we are in serious need for faster Internet access and the cost of a T-1 line is prohibitive.

I gave iNYC a shot based on reviews that I found here at DSL Reports. I am glad that I gave them the chance because I now look loke the Internet Hero at my company.

Short and Simple:

1. They delivered what they said they would provide and were at my facility at the appointed time.

2. The installer knew what he was doing: Ran a line from the basement of the facility up into my server room.

3. The connection has been flawless.

4. These guys even helped my with some website difficulies I was having with another ISP. How is that for support?

My company is ForeFront Inc. based out of NJ & we are
new DSL customers with iNYC. Let me begin by saying I
was fairly skeptical when I saw all the great reviews
for iNYC on DSLReports web site. Now that we are
customers, I can say the following about them:

- They met their committment on delivery and installation
- Our iNYC account manager Leo Jeremias was curtious,
helpful and very responsive to us. I enjoyed dealing
with him and felt comfortable with his style.
- Our selected speed was 512k (both ways) and we
tested it to be sure we're getting what we payed for, and
we were pleased to see it's right on the money (by DSL
standards 510k going out 492 coming back). It was
also fairly consistant.
- We had one outage and it was handled in a very
reasonable amount of time. We also received a call
explaining what happened and a promess that it won't
happen again.
- Price was excellent and the installation was
professional and quick.

Overall I rate iNYC as a 9 on the scale of 1 to 10.
Keep up the good work and I definitley recommend you
to anyone.

Regards,
Hisham Lotfi
Systems Manager

I signed up for this ISP in January with service through Northpoint after my deal with Phoenix fell through (although they took my order they told me a month later that they could not place my order through Northpoint for an additional month). Although the installation took a little longer than a would have liked (it took Bell Atlantic 6 weeks for an initial appointment to install the line and then there were a series of loop problems) I can't blame it on INYC. Since it was installed, I have had no problems whatsoever. I ordered 416/208 service and generally I get a 380/380 response when I check the speed on DSL reports. The service reps and the technical support (which I only used to initially configure the service) have all been excellent. My brother signed up with fastpoint and has had nothing but trouble, especially with ping rates when playing games. My ping rate is always substantially better than his when signing onto the same server, even though we live only a few miles apart and he is closer to the CO.

I can't recommend INYC more highly.

the complete opposite

i have had inyc dsl for 10 months. didn't work at all for first 2 months. less than %40 uptime for another two months. then finally solid ! they turned off the mail server without telling us, turned off the newsgroups without telling us. always tell me they will call me back, never ever have done. told me i was getting a refund for no service. 6 months of promises, i finally got tossed one month. no response to repeated emails. now it seems inyc's relationship with northpoint is over, and our contracts are all magically freed up. basically we are all getting chucked off. probably a good thing for me. hope to get this northpoint line hoooked up quick.

Hello,

I have been using iNYC DSL for the past few weeks, and I love it.
I am getting 608k download-speed for under $65! Their Tech Support is great, and their salesmen are very friendly as well.
Not only their DSL service is great, they have even designed my web site www.beryarts.com , their designers are as good as their DSL Network!

I ran across a new press release that I saw about iNYC.com last week, and I think people who think about getting DSL should know about this new service: free long distance voice and video calls!

Here check it out:

You can see where its posted:

Here is the article:

visitalk.com and iNYC to bring free long distance voice and video calls to broadband users

NEW YORK July 6, 2000 visitalk.com and iNYC, a national broadband access solution provider, today announced they will work together to bring free real-time voice and video calling over the Internet to iNYC's broadband users.

Registered users also can call telephones from their PCs for free.

iNYC's FDSL, a unique program that allows users to get a DSL line for little or no cost, is made possible through the support from advertisers. By interacting with the advertisers, subscribers will earn credits towards their service, making the service either very low cost or totally free.

"By working with broadband providers such as iNYC, we can extend our service to more users and allow them to experience how well our video and audio services perform with high bandwidth service," noted Michael Cooney, vice president, strategic planning, visitalk.com.

"Additional bandwidth like that provided by iNYC will give visitalk.com users a rich multimedia experience," commented Justin Kiliszek, director of strategic development, iNYC. "The relationship between iNYC and visitalk.com lets users combine high bandwidth with one of the Web's most exciting applications Internet telephony."

To access the service, iNYC subscribers can go to the iNYC website's home page for residential service. They then can click on the "Added Value" icon that lets them register for visitalk.com.

I would like to tell you about the experience I had with inyc. I came
to INYC due to HUGE problems I had with Telocity. I won't go in to
detail about Telocity it just repeats many things that were already said
in other reviews.

From start to now the experience I have had with INYC has been nothing
short than a pleasure.

Starting with Leo the Sales Rep I talked to and contacted through email.
Leo informed of what to expect with time period of when I would be up
and running and how the whole process would take place. Not only did it
take place the way he stated but even quicker than he said. Neither of
those happened with Telocity.

When Covad the company that installed the in home wiring came he could
not get my computer to surf. He tried his computer and it worked fine.
So he informed me to contact INYC. I was oh no I will be on hold for
ever due to me experience with Telocity. To my pleasant surprise the
phone rang twice and I got a tech by the name of David Attias. He got
me up and running in no time, the install tech missed a setting.

Now the real joy of my experience with INYC. I have two computers that
were networked using a home free card. And my remote computer was not
able browse. Which I knew may be a problem from research I had already
done. My 5 years old nick name is the dot com kid and having his
computer to be able to browse was a must.

I asked Dave if he could help me out with getting that set up. He said
sure not knowing it was going take many hours over twodays to get it
working. Then during the trouble shooting I find out from his Sup he
really wasn't suppose to help with in-home networking. Now this is
customer service. After many hours a new networking hub and purchasing
WinRoute were able to get the whole thing up and running.

If you are looking for a DSL ISP as far as I am concerned there is only
one to go with. Not only did they answer there phones promptly, they
called back when they said they would, they went out of there way to
make sure I got what I needed to make my DSL experience an ENJOYABLE one
and not a NIGHTMARE that I had before with TELOCITY.

Whose writing these reviews

I had INYC and my first hop is to LA. What a rip. I also got Road runner in NYC and my cable connection just blow Incy dsl out of the water. It even cost half as much! I signed up after reading the reviews. Unfortunately my speeds just suck. It never approaches the speed I paid for. Their tech support seems to just ignore my emails. But since they just re-sell Fastpoint service what control do they have? BTW, do you notice how they post up reviews from this web site as "testimonials" on their web site. I think the funniest one I read was against someone ranting against his post because his cousin works there! It just makes me wonder if inyc grunts are writing up all these glowing reviews of a company that just seems to be re-seller. Also, do they even have a news server? What sort of isp does not have a news server?
